Panelists Brian F. Keane, Ted Nordhaus, Ben Nelson, and Carl Pope describe their efforts to make make "going green" easier, faster, and cheaper. They argue that the government shouldn't make fossil fuels more expensive, but rather they should invest in making alternative sources cheaper and marketing them to consumers.

Carl Pope is the Executive Director of the Sierra Club, an American environmental organization founded by conservationist pioneer John Muir in 1892. Pope was appointed to his position as Executive Director in 1992, the club's centennial.

Brian F. Keane is President of SmartPower, a nationwide non-profit marketing organization dedicated to promoting clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency. Hailed as the "Got Milk" campaign for wind, solar and waterpower, SmartPower's award winning marketing campaign has been credited with creating hundreds of GWh of clean, renewable energy across the nation.

The United Kingdom has launched an electric sports car, in an effort to give eco-cars an image boost.

The key to popularising electric cars is to make them more desirable, simply being environmentally friendly is not enough for most people to buy the product.

Electric cars, are often pictured small, impractical, and sometimes even ugly vehicles.

However, a company in the UK has unveiled "Lightning" an electric sports car - claiming to revolutionise the industry with its looks and technology.

Al Jazeera's Tessa Parry-Wingfield reports from London's Motor Show on the eco-car trend that is changing the public's perception.

AUDIENCE MEMBER: "After 9/11, the United States and the economy took a tragic fall. [...] The American automotive industry was the first to stand up and do something for our country. We provided rebates to get the economy going again. And since then, we've continued giving rebates and giving our products away for next to nothing to a point that our companies are now on a very uneven path and our future is uncertain. I understand technology will advance us, but when is the government going to stick up for the people that first stepped up to put this country back on track after 9/11?"
JOHN MCCAIN: "Well first of all as I have said I would support tax credits for Americans who choose to buy the Volt and other, and other automobiles that put us on the path to energy independence. I believe that the Federal government should invest in pure research and development. I think as you know one of the hurdles to development of any electric automobile is of course the battery issue. [...] I'd be glad and would strongly support pure research and development in the development of this battery with greater capacity, less weight, and is more disposable. So, there are many ways that I would be glad to support this industry.

"But at the end of the day, there are problems, some of which have been addressed, between labor and management. I have to give you some straight talk. You can't compete with other automobile manufacturers if you lay somebody off and pay them full salary for the rest of their life. Can't do it. It's not going to be competitive. So, I will do everything that I can to support this industry."

World Naked Bike Ride, Denver Style

According to organizer Kate Owen, the point of the World Naked Bike Ride is threefold: protesting oil use and car culture; advocating bikes, skateboards, rollarblades and other alternative forms of transport; and celebrating the human body.

The event that took place up and down the streets of Denver on the evening of Saturday the 12th was half-expected to run into trouble from the police. In 2006 the ride ended in arrests in Boulder, and that is Boulder mind you, famous for, well, some leeway in these sorts of things. This was Denver. Not so much leeway.

Organizers made sure they had copies of applicable laws, a lawyer somewhere in the crowd (he or she wasn't wearing a suit), and a street medic, for contingincies. The ensuing, impromptu partnership between police and riders says a lot about what has changed, not just in two years, but in the protest movements and police offices generally.

This reporter didn't make it all the way to the end of the ride, but there have been no reports of arrests or trouble. In fact, since I often ride on sidewalks, had to borrow a glowstick to comply with regulations to have a light on my bike, and couldn't film and keep up with the pack, I was probably the most arrestable person there.

Pulling policy from rhetoric when listening to a politician isn't always easy. Good thing we got it on tape! Here are the fourteen concrete "I will" statements I found in McCain's economic policy speech in Denver on July 7th.

1. Make it easier for small businesses to grow and create jobs
2. Won't raise taxes-- will cut them where he can
3. Raising taxes in a bad economy eliminates jobs-- won't let that happen
4. Will double the child tax deduction from $3,500 to $7,000 for every dependent in every family
5. Will expand markets for goods and services, as with Crocs, the shoe company
6. Will reform unemployment insurance and retrain workers using community colleges-- will make up difference in wages between a worker's temporary job while they train for a better on and their old job
7. Do a stem to stern review of government, modernize how it does business, and save billions
8. Will veto bills with pork and shame those involved with them
9. Produce more of our own oil and gas to pressure market prices down
10. Create at least 45 new Nuclear Power plants, creating 700,000 jobs (including construction)
11. Develop clean coal technology, employing 30,000 in demonstration projects
12. Support gas free cars and create high tech jobs in the auto industry
13. Support wind and solar power development
14. Put the country ahead of personal and partisan interests

We wanted to drive it to the European Parliament and deliver a stone tablet bearing the logos of Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes alongside the message "Driving climate change".
