Andrew Kimbrell visits Google's Mountain View, CA headquarters to discuss his book "Your Right to Know: Genetic Engineering and the Secret Changes in Your Food." This event took place on July 22, 2008, as part of the Authors@Google series.

More than half of America's processed grocery products -- from corn flakes to granola bars to diet drinks -- contain genetically altered ingredients. They are unlabeled and untested, and we are eating them. "Your Right to Know" is a complete, full-color reference guide outlining how unmarked genetically modified foods go from the factory to the family dining table, and what consumers can do about the health risks they present. This accessible guide is for concerned parents -- as well as anyone concerned about genetically altered foods -- who want to know more about the potential health risks, the organic alternatives, and the methods available to counter the corporate takeover of the food we eat.

ANDREW KIMBRELL serves as the executive director of the Center for Food Safety and the International Center for Technology Assessment and has been involved in public interest legal activity for nearly 20 years. His articles have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Harpers, Utne Reader, and the Ecologist. Andrew lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife and two children.

Music Video Contest! ► WarOnWar.INFO

Sam Harris sings "Those Magic Changes" on the Broadway stage revival of GREASE staring along with Rosie O'Donnell, Megan Mullally, Brooke Shields etc.

THOSE MAGIC CHANGES

What's that playing on the radio, why do I start swaying to and fro
I have never heard that song before, but if I don't hear it anymore
It's still familiar to me, sends a thrill right through me
Cause those chords remind me of the night that I first fell in love to

Those magic changes my heart arranges
A melody that's never the same, a melody that's calling your name
It begs you please, come back to me
Please, return to me, don't go away again, oh make them play again
The music I wanna hear is once again, you whisper in my ear
Oh my darling, aha

I'll be waiting by the radio, you'll come back to me someday, I know
Been so long since our last goodbye, but I'm singin' as I cry
While the bass is sounding, while the drums are pounding
Beatings of my broken heart will rise the first place of the charts

Oh my heart arranges, oh those magic changes, oooh yeah

Dr. Hunter S. Thompson's widow Anita reads an article by the famed journalist on his proposed revisions to the game of baseball.

This program contains explicit language.

-----

Anita Thompson discusses The Gonzo Way: A Celebration of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson.

Anita Thompson explores the powerful legacy of her late husband in "The Gonzo Way: A Celebration of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson." Tom Wolfe once described Hunter S. Thompson as the finest comic writer of the 20th century. Thompson was this and more, an apt observer of the American scene for almost four decades, the founding father of "Gonzo Journalism", and an inspiration to many. Through his writings, he examined the loss of American innocence in the latter part of the last century and, as a "bull who carried his own china shop around with him", was never afraid to confront the truth head-on. With her own words and through interviews with those who knew him best, including Tom Wolfe, George McGovern, and Douglas Brinkley, Anita Thompson pays tribute to her late husband as a writer and as a citizen. With elegant prose and entertaining anecdotes, she reveals a Hunter Thompson who was much more than a mere embodiment of sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll. Whether it was studying the Book of Revelations, riding with the Hell's Angels, answering a cry for help in appealing a flawed conviction, or pulling crazy pranks on fiends, Thompson's passionate search for enjoyment and purpose is here - Cody's

Anita Thompson began working as Hunter's assistant in 1999; they married in 2003. She continues to work in Hunter's stead and lives on Owl Farm in Woody Creek outside of Aspen. She is the publisher of The Woody Creeker magazine.

Complete video at: fora.tv

Philanthropy expert Katherine Fulton reviews the history of charitable giving, and talks about how organized philanthropies are adapting to meet modern needs.

-----

"The Deeper News About the New Philanthropy"

10,000 families in the US, Katherine Fulton reported, have assets of $100 million or more. That's up from 7,000 just a couple years ago. Most of that money is "on the sidelines." The poor and the middle class are far more generous in their philanthropy, proportionally, than the very wealthy.

Philanthropy across the board is in the midst of intense, potentially revolutionary, transition, she said. There's new money, new leaders, new rules, new technology, and new needs. Where great wealth used to come mainly from inheritance and oil, now it comes from success in high technology and finance - and ideas and expectations from those business experiences inform (and sometimes over-simplify) the new philanthropy. Some of the great older institutions like the Rockefeller Foundation are radically reorganizing around new ideas and opportunities. But still the greatest amount comes from individuals, many of whom are now "giving while living" instead of handing over the task to heirs. - The Long Now Foundation
