So The DCCC took a look at a band of debt-ridden, scandal-plagued, short-on-recruitment, morally and financially broke miscreants known as the Congressional GOP and decided they have the ability to take a shot at winning 40 seats in 2008.

For comparison sake, we won 30 seats (I believe) in 2006. If you look at the districts they're targeting (including 5 in Ohio, 4 in New York and 4 in Florida), you'll find many open seats, Republican scandals and crappy GOP challengers.

You can get more details here. But I have two more things to say:

1) We've learned that any Democrat is not good enough. Progressives should be the goal here; 2) Watch this absolutely horrendous video, I'm talking on par with your average Chuck Norris flick, and you'll gain some insight into the pure comedy that is Republicanism.

FYI, GWB will be having a press conference at 10a EST where he will be sure to poke his finger in the eye of the Democrats who just left for the Christmas holidays.

Democratic Congress Recesses With A Whimper The Democratic-majority Congress gave final passage to a $555 billion spending bill to fund government operations, as well as military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The measure was portrayed as a final victory for President Bush in the budget standoff.

AP: Romney Aligns Himself With Bush in Iowa
Republican Mitt Romney aligned himself squarely with President Bush and his national security policies Wednesday, reaching out to GOP loyalists who hold the president in high regard, back the Iraq war and could sway the high-stakes nomination race.

Politico: Fred Thompson: Lazy As Charged
When is retail politics not retail politics? When candidates refuse to get off their big buses and go do it.

Wall Street Journal: The Endless Campaign By KARL ROVE
The Iowa caucuses are 14 days away, with the New Hampshire primary five days later. And what follows from there won't be pretty.

Roll Call: DCCC Targets 40 GOP Seats
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, convinced that its vulnerable incumbents are now well-positioned for re-election, is shifting its focus to the growing list of Republican open seats, DCCC Chairman, Rep. Chris Van Hollen (Md.) said in an interview Wednesday.

Queen Elizabeth II becomes Britain's oldest-ever monarch on Thursday, beating the record of Queen Victoria.

White House Role In CIA Tapes Questioned The AP reports Administration officials "refuse to shed light on whether White House lawyers talked to the CIA about whether to destroy interrogation videotapes of two terrorism suspects but bristle at questions into the affair and complain about news coverage."

Pic via Cat of course.

This man is quite simply a sociopath. He has no shame, no compassion, no concern for those he's hurt or care for the truth. And he's been an complete and utter failure in his role in government.

Andy Card, Chief of Staff for the Bush Junta while Rove was there, and Ari Fleischer, Bush's spokesman, just recently called Rove a liar because of his ridiculous claim that Congress, and not the President, wanted the Iraq War vote to come before the 2002 election (of course, don't take Card and Fleischer's word for it, look at or listen to ANYTHING from that time period).

This morning he added to his ignominy and lied about Tom Daschle personally, and Democratic Congressman Chris Van Hollen slapped down his silliness with ease.

Please, Karl, go back on the lithium, or how about just crawling back into whatever sewer you slinked out of this morning?

The simple reality is that Rove is the living, walking, breathing caricature of a slime-oozing used car salesman. And his Iraq lemon ain't selling.

(h/t Think Progress)
