The International Whaling Commission has wrapped up its meeting in Chile with whale hunters and whale lovers still at odds.

The divided commission could not convince Japan to end its slaughter of 1000 whales each year.

And member's also side-stepped calls from Latin American nations for a South Atlantic whale sanctuary.

When the California Commission on the Fair Administration of Justice held hearings last week on the fairness of the death penalty, I didn't expect all the details of more than 6 hours of hearings to be covered in my local newspaper, the Sacramento Bee. I was surprised, however, to see the Sacramento Bee article covering the hearings did not even mention the many murder victim family members who oppose the death penalty who spent all day at that hearing to share the stories I excerpt in my video. Instead, the Sacramento Bee only quoted a murder victim family member supporting the death penalty who did not even speak at the hearing.

The online version of the Sacramento Bee article I am criticizing is available at: www.sacbee.com

Video of the entire January 10, 2008, hearing is available from the California Channel at: www.calchannel.com

Also, more information about the California Commission on the Fair Administration of Justice is available at: www.ccfaj.org

Finally, a lot more testimonials from victims of crimes seeking alternatives to the death penalty are available at: www.californiacrimevictims.org

With regards to recent land use law vs. water use laws, please spend a few minutes to review the facts:

The County of Kauai Planning Commission Meetings where the COUNTY ATTORNEY illegally shut down my client, Kauai Springs Water, Inc.

In that case, the County Attorney wants to "ERROR on the side of caution" in order to avoid any problems in the future, yet prior cases have set precedents that clearly show the County of Kauai should allow Kauai Springs Water to bottle on the Agriculture land they are located on. This type of endeavor is encouraged in the "Kauai General Plan" yet county officials do little to enforce the rules set in place as stated in the Koloa, Poipu, and Kalaheo Development Plan.

Kauai Springs Water has donated over 50,000 gallons of Kauai Springs Water to the community in the past year.

When other bottled water arrives here on Kauai in 40 foot shipping containers and slowly the empty bottles that don't get recycled end up in our already filled to capacity landfills.

Kauai Springs, Water is Life;

Mt. Wai'ale'ale is recognized as the wettest spot on Earth. The plentiful rain here seeps into the volcanic soil and rock which is porous. This creates a natural filtration system for the water which has been flowing here for millions of years. The pristine, mineralized, filtered water eventually settles into underground aquifers which then flow as natural springs through the mountains of Kauai, into streams and rivers, and eventually into the Pacific Ocean.

Kauai currently imports 100% of all bottled water consumed here.

This is ridiculous for many reasons. Right now we get our bottled water from companies located in places like Fiji and France. Energy is wasted getting the water here, we are forced to pay a premium for the water, and then most of the plastic bottles end up in our already full landfill.

Fiji water company has created hundreds of jobs for their island nation. That very successful business also generates hundreds of millions of dollars into the local economy.

We plan on sustainably bottling Kauai Spring water for local distribution. This means that we will only be harvesting an amount of water from a source that will cause no environmental damage to natural rivers, streams, and eco-systems.

Environmental studies will be done by qualified biologists and hydrologists to ensure this promise.

Earth Friendly Compostable Corn Bottles -- (PLA)
We also plan on bottling the water in a new revolutionary alternative to plastic material called PLA which is 100% non-toxic and completely compostable. In a compost environment, the bottle and label will completely biodegrade back into soil within approximately 90 days! We will also be able to collect these bottles and burn them as fuel which will create electricity at a new biomass power-plant being built in Koloa.

These bottles are much safer than normal plastic bottles which are being proven to leach toxic chemicals into the water within, which then goes into our bodies causing disease such as various cancers.

Kauai residents will be able to purchase Kauai spring water for a very inexpensive wholesale price while visitors to the island will pay the retail cost at resorts / hotels / etc.

A Portion of all future net proceeds from this business will go directly back to the Island of Kauai in order to help insure that all Kauai residents have access to clean drinking water, food, and shelter.

Sustain Kauai, Hawaii, and the Earth....
One person and one Island at a time...

Last week's trial of Adriaan Vlok, the former South African law and order minister during apartheid, has stirred controversy.
