Faux News reporter Courtney Keely, like John McCain before her, made a total ass of herself by claiming that the “surge” is working because she is able to visit a Baghdad market surrounded by even more US soldiers than McCain had for his visit. As you can see in the video (and the pic above), there are so many soldiers surrounding her that it looks like a freaking USO nightclub — you can’t see a single Iraqi! If only every Iraqi could have their own US battalion, complete with Blackhawk helicopters, maybe they’d feel safer than two of the men Keely “interviewed”, one who said he feared being murdered if he traveled north to visit his two daughters, and another who feared he’d be murdered the moment he left the US-guarded market. Another man said, “This market is no good. No buyers, no people.”
With success like this, who needs failure? Is anyone buying this propaganda anymore?
Temporarily flooding a market with soldiers who guard it 24/7 might bring some temporary safety, but the “surge” can’t be maintained indefinitely and it does nothing to solve the religious and political hostilities at the root of the instability. The fact that this is the closest thing to good news Faux can scrape from the Iraq debacle shows how horrible the situation must truly be and what a propaganda mouthpiece Faux truly is.

When she is asking the man about the fate of his family, she makes a throat slashing gesture. How disrespectful.
