His lawyers said the former Bosnian Serb leader plans to defend himself at the tribunal.

Karadzic's supporters who maintain he is a war hero - clashed with riot police again a day after his arrest.

Guantanamo Bay interrogation video released - 15 July 08

Lawyers for a Canadian prisoner held at Guantanamo Bay have released a videotape showing him being interrogated.

The pictures offer the first glimpse inside the secretive and isolated US prison in Cuba.

In the video, a Canadian Security Intelligence Services agent is shown grilling Omar Khadr in 2003, when he was 15.

The video shows him weeping, his face buried in his hands.

Khadr also tells his captors he's been tortured.

The Canadian citizen is accused of throwing a grenade that killed a US soldier during a 2002 firefight in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan's Incredibly High Maternal Mortality Rate

Afghanistan had the second highest maternal mortality rate in the world after Sierra Leone. One in every 9 Afghan women die during or shortly after giving birth, this makes it a death every 21 minutes. In the US and Japan one in over 12,000 mothers die in childbirth. Afghan support for raid in Pakistan - 20 Jun 08

Afghan and Nato troops say they've driven Taliban fighters from villages within striking distance of Kandahar City after a 24-hour raid in Arghandab.

The Nato-led operation was launched after the Taliban blasted open Kandahar's main jail, freeing more than a thousand prisoners.

It was an attack which embarrassed the Afghan government, and prompted Hamid Karzai to threaten to send his troops into Pakistan to take out Taliban leaders.

His comments caused outrage across the border, but as Dan Nolan found, many inside Afghanistan are welcoming the plan.

It is not known how many rebels died.

In Papua New Guinea there are fears of increased violence after five thousand guns from the police and military "disappeared".

In a country of around 6 million people, there are more than 500 reported murders a year. That's four times higher than the murder rate in the US.

But authorities say up to 75 per cent of criminal deaths go unreported and the country's real homicide rate is likely to be even higher.
