Things just keep on getting stickier and stickier for Senator David Vitter. Last year, the Lousiana Republican admitted to having used the D.C. Madam's escort service back in 2001, when Vitter was a member of the House. Well, call it tit for tat, because now the D.C. Madam wants Vitter to testify on her behalf that she was merely running a legitimate fantasy sex service, and not an illicit, high-end prostition ring. According to TPM, the D.C. Madam has apparently subpoenaed Vitter, whose lawyer claims he'll plead the Fifth if forced to testify (if that's what the kids are calling it these days).

New York governor Eliot Spitzer has blown it in a big way. [...] [W]hen a personal act is both illegal and hypocritical, it becomes a hurdle that is very difficult to get over.
That said, the media is demonstrating its customary tunnel-blindness in reporting this story. The news is less than two hours old and I have already heard reporters on CNN, Fox and MSNBC asking about the impact on Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
Why would this have any impact on Hillary Clinton’s campaign? It is unrelated to policy matters. It is not something she could have known. There is no connection to her whatsoever other than the fact that Spitzer had endorsed her.
Well, I haven’t heard anyone ask John McCain about whether he has the support of Sen. Larry “Wide Stance” Craig (R-ID). And Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), an admitted patron of Washington’s DC Madam, endorsed McCain just yesterday. Neither Craig nor Vitter have resigned their seats in the Senate.
I also have to wonder if Dick Morris, a frequent guest on Bill O’Reilly’s program, and the subject of his own prostitution scandal, will appear on the Factor tonight to discuss the Spitzer affair. While he obviously would have no moral authority to criticize Spitzer, he could at least speak from experience. Knowing Morris and O’Reilly, they would probably not even bother to disclose it.
Here’s your homework for today: Anyone who reads or hears a reporter ask Clinton about Spitzer should demand that they also ask McCain about Vitter.

I just got home and hadn't heard the Clinton angle. Mark's right, it couldn't be more obtuse.

Today Republican Congressman Rick Renzi of Arizona was indicted on charges of extortion, wire fraud, money laundering and other matters in an Arizona land swap scam. Renzi is also one of the Arizona state co-chairs for Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign.

Next up: The Willard Romney Endorser:

Republican Senator Larry Craig was a big-time backer of former Gov. Mitt Romney, before being accused of soliciting sex in a Minnesota men’s bathroom.

Oh, and how can we forget the Vitter For Giuliani campaign?

And Senator David Vitter was a big part of Team Giuliani, before his name turned up in the blackbook of "D.C. Madam" Deborah Jeane Palfrey's. Vitter was forced to apologize for "a very serious sin in my past." (By that he mean soliciting prostitutes, not backing Giuliani.)

Oh, but it doesn't just stop at accepting an endorsement. What do the candidates do when they discover their groupies' indiscretions?

But how they handle their relationship when the chips are down is a bit revealing. Today, McCain expressed more concern than anger when he learned of the Renzi indictment. [...] "I’m sorry obviously, you always feel for the family as you know he has 12 children. But I don’t know enough of the details or anything to make a judgment, this kind of thing is always, is always very unfortunate. I rely on our department of justice and our system of justice to make the right outcome.”

Mitt Romney on the other hand chose the nuclear option when dealing with the Larry Craig matter. He called Craig’s reported actions, “disgusting.”

All of which proves that the fine men in assless chaps at Folsom have nothing on these high-placed anti-sex pundits who clearly have the art of tease-and-denial down. We really have a lot to learn here in San Francisco from these very sophisticated, if sloppy, pervs.

David "2-showers" Vitter won't testify in D.C. Madam prostitute case

David Vitter's been spared from having to appear in court for sexcapades like this.

A federal judge spared Sen. David Vitter an embarrassing appearance on the witness stand in a prostitution case when she abruptly canceled a hearing scheduled for next week.
The Louisiana Republican was under subpoena to testify about his ties to a Washington escort service. Deborah Palfrey, the woman accused of running a prostitution ring, had sought to question Vitter about whether he paid for sex.

The judge said it would serve no purpose, that Palfrey was just trying to game the system.

Curses!

Vitter has acknowledged being involved with the escort service, Pamela Martin and Associates. But after issuing brief statements and apologizing for ''a very serious sin,'' he has ducked follow-up questions. On the witness stand, he would not have had that luxury.

Drat.

Also on Palfrey's witness list was Harlan K. Ullman, a national security expert and military strategist known for developing the ''shock and awe'' warfare strategy. Palfrey has said Ullman was a regular client. Ullman has not commented on what he called ''outrageous allegations.''

They're off the hook(er).

Backstory:

Deborah Jeane Palfrey, who is charged with racketeering and money laundering, this week subpoenaed Vitter (R-La.) to testify at a Nov. 28 hearing that he was a client of her $2million escort service. Palfrey has argued her escort service was a legal business, and upstanding clients like Vitter could prove she was legit.

I bet you didn't know that David Vitter loves his wife. Almost as much as Larry Craig loves his.

Many in the GOP, fearing political consequences, want Vitter to fight the subpoena or refuse to answer questions by invoking Fifth Amendment protection from self-incrimination. [...]
"Sen. Vitter needs to do everything he can to avoid becoming a sound bite, and it would be best if he said nothing," said one senior GOP Senate aide.

Psst, Repubs! Never mention the words "Vitter" and "bite" in the same sentence.

Vitter's colleagues do, however, fear his testimony could resurrect the "culture of corruption" label that brought down several GOP candidates last year. Combined with the bizarre airport men's room arrest of Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho), Vitter's testimony could be a political embarrassment for Republicans in next year's elections.

Good advice, telling him to keep his trap shut. That way nobody would ever think to write about it in, say, a political blog. Or the Daily News.

So keep your mouth shut, David. No matter who you're with.

Alleged D.C. Madam Deborah Jeane Palfrey wants to force Sen. David Vitter to tell a judge about his experiences with her escort service.
Palfrey has filed court documents seeking to subpoena the Louisiana senator to testify in an upcoming hearing.
As first reported on WTOP, an escort named Paula Neble claims Vitter, R-La., was a customer.
Palfrey is suing Neble, saying she violated a contract by accepting money for sex.

The Senate welcomed their friend David back. After all, the family values crowd is fine with extramarital sex with a female prostitute.

Had he tippy-tapped his way into something other than that, say, in a public men's room stall, well, maybe then he would have gotten the cold shoulder.

It's nice to know his fellow senators are loyal to him even though he's been disloyal to his wife and to the faux moral standards forced upon all of us in the past few years.

Vitter Earmarked Federal Money For Creationist Group

Even though Vitter, himself, has proven that Intelligent Design of Senators from Louisiana, at the very least, is impossible.

The nonprofit Louisiana Family Forum, launched in Baton Rouge in 1999 by former state Rep. Tony Perkins, has in recent years taken the lead in promoting "origins science," which includes the possibility of divine intervention in the creation of the universe.
The group's stated mission is to "persuasively present biblical principles in the centers of influence on issues affecting the family through research, communication and networking." Until recently, its Web site contained a "battle plan to combat evolution," which called the theory a "dangerous" concept that "has no place in the classroom." The document was removed after a reporter's inquiry.
Vitter, Forum have ties
The group's tax-exempt status prohibits the Louisiana Family Forum from political activity, but Vitter has close ties to the group. Dan Richey, the group's grass-roots coordinator, was paid $17,250 as a consultant in Vitter's 2004 Senate race. Records also show that Vitter's campaign employed Beryl Amedee, the education resource council chairwoman for the Louisiana Family Forum.
The group has been an advocate for the senator, who was elected as a strong supporter of conservative social issues. When Vitter's use of a Washington, D.C., call-girl service drew comparisons last month to the arrest of Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, in what an undercover officer said was a solicitation for sex in an airport men's room, Family Forum Executive Director Gene Mills came to Vitter's defense.

Well, of course. Good to know Vitter is not only sexually corrupt, but financially too. Oh, and also good to know that Family Forum values their principles so much, that they would defend the multi-whoring of David Vitter.

Republican hypocrisy continues unabated.

"I didn't have a crap-load of clients" --Wendy Cortez, Vitter's escort

Driving home from work is so educational. Today's lesson was from an interview on my local progressive radio station, with Wendy Cortez, David Vitter's go-to girl. And what a lesson it was!

Here are the highlights:

Wendy revealed their relationship because she felt her integrity had been attacked. Vitter had called her a liar, and she fought back. Of all the women he'd been with, and she feels strongly there were many more, she says she was the only one with the "cojones" to tell the truth.
She is positive it was David Vitter, and was asked about that twice on the lie detector test she took. Both times her answers passed the test.
She says it was not hard to remember him because she "didn't have a crap-load of clients".
Vitter is very clean. Did you know that? "A clean old man" (apologies to Ringo Starr).
Vitter would shower twice per visit, once before, once after, always being careful to use unscented soap to avoid accusations of smelling, well, not like the macho guy he is.
He divulged to her that, during their 4 or so months together, he and his wife were trying to have children. Family values are everything, aren't they Clean Dave?
"How can you use the "family values" slogan, but have no morals, lying to your wife and children? He's the biggest hypocrite..." Wendy said with feeling.
"You know how they always say, 'It's always the quiet types you gotta watch'? He was the quiet type. Very polite and quiet."
Cortez knew he was a busy guy, and she lived across the street from him, so she thought it would be more convenient and save time if they met at her private residence.
Once the relationship ended, when he learned her name was the same as his wife's, he still frequented the club where she was a dancer. He would "just sit there and stare". It creeped her out. Can't imagine why.
He left her with no mementos or business cards, but when asked, she said he did have one thing to remember him by: An identifying characteristic, if you will. To quote, "It was just a little something." (Wendy's emphasis, not mine)

There it is. More than you ever wanted to know about David Vitter. But he's not gay, so it's all moot, now isn't it?

UPDATE: Apparently, my writing was misleading regarding Vitter using unscented bath products. This was not because of his concern with his own masculinity. It was out of concern about getting caught, because if he smelled like another woman, that would certainly be suspicious. My sincere apologies if I failed to communicate Cortez's intent properly.

A former New Orleans prostitute who says she had an affair with Sen. David Vitter has passed a lie-detector test and will provide details of the four-month relationship at a press conference Tuesday, according to Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt.

Wendy Cortez, whose real name is Wendy Ellis, says she had a sexual relationship with Vitter, R-La., in 1999, when he was a state legislator.
Copies of the results of Cortez's polygraph test, which she took at Flynt's request, will be provided to reporters at the news conference at Flynt's office in Beverly Hills, Calif., Hustler said in a news release Monday.
Vitter spokesman Joel Digrado wouldn't comment on the Flynt news conference. In an e-mail, Digrado said, "Sen. Vitter and his wife have addressed all of this very directly. The senator is focused on important Louisiana priorities like the water resources bill and the Iraq debate."

David Vitter, who you might have thought only mentally perused "branding" in masochism fantasies containing ladies of the avenue, is now apparently a GOP marketing maesto.

Vitter rose recently among his colleagues, the first time since his heartfelt admission that he had felt up other organs than hearts. He talked about "re-branding" the GOP as "fiscal conservatives." Which is easy to do when you took a surplus and under united government over six years, turned it into the largest deficit since the creation of the slide rule.

Yes, this is a man you want to listen to on public perception, oh GOP miscreants. In fact, please listen to him guys. PLEASE.

If I could, I think some re-branding as Scientologists or the Son of Sam or Ann Coulter's neck would also do wonders for you. I think I'm going to call Dave right now. I hope he is not, um, "busy."
