When that movie is <em>WALL&middot;E</em> and is made by the homerun machine known as Pixar, anything is possible. And <em>WALL&middot;E</em> is definitely my favorite movie of the year thus far, as well as a powerful (and funny and exciting and adorable) cautionary tale about human excess and environmental stewardship. <br /><br />Full disclosure: I own some Disney stock (it used to be Pixar stock before they got reacquired by Disney). But even if I didn&#39;t, it wouldn&#39;t have stopped me from seeing <em>WALL&middot;E</em> twice in a week &mdash; and I even paid both times!<br /><br />WALL&middot;E, the film&#39;s title character, is a robotic trash compactor &mdash; his name is an acronym for Waste Allocation Load Lifter&middot;Earth-Class. He is essentially a box with arms on tractor treads whose faceless head, while amazingly emotive, is little more than binoculars on a stick. Alone for the past 700 years, WALL&middot;E has been dutifully fulfilling his directive: compacting trash into cubes and stacking them in piles. But WALL&middot;E doesn&#39;t work on some average trash heap &mdash; in this future, the entire earth has become an enormous abandoned dump, where spires of garbage reach higher than the tallest skyscrapers into a smoggy yellow sky scoured by fierce dust storms. Through a combination of humanity&#39;s rampant consumer culture and a conglomerate called Buy N Large willing to feed it, life on earth has become unsustainable, forcing all humans to abandon the planet on giant interstellar cruiseliners until the mess can be cleaned up. Italian sausage <br />1/2 c. chopped onion <br />1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes <br />1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste <br />1/3 c. water <br />1/4 tsp. pepper <br />8 oz. Mostacholi noodles, cooked and drained <br />3 c. shredded Mozzarella or cheddar cheese <br />1 1/2 c. cottage cheese <br />1 tsp. marjoram leaves or ground marjoram <br />1/4 c. Parmesan cheese</p> <p>Brown sausage and add onion. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, water, and seasonings. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Combine cottage cheese, Mozzarella/cheddar cheese and marjoram. In 9 x 13 baking dish, layer 1/2 noodles, meat sauce, and then cheese. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. entertainment, annouced that they are going forward with their plans to have their first Black princess in 2009&#39;s <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Princess_and_the_Frog" title="The Frog Princess">The Frog Princess</a>.</p><p>Disney has had opportunities to show the uniqueness of non-white cultures in it&#39;s films, but has failed miserably at doing so in a respectful, non-stereotypical way (see <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103639/" title="Aladdin">Aladdin</a> and <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120762/" title="Mulan">Mulan</a>). <strong>I have zero confidence that this film will be any different</strong>.</p><p>This is doubly dangerouse given how Black women are portrayed in today&#39;s media.
