Domenici has frontotemporal lobar degeneration, or "dementia"

Cliff posted on Senator Pete Domenici's retirement, and now we know one of the main reasons why he's going:

Domenici spent Wednesday telling Senate colleagues that he has frontotemporal lobar degeneration, or FTLD, a type of dementia. Its name refers to the slow deterioration of affected sections of the brain, the front and lower sides - areas that control such things as language and behavior.
Unlike with Alzheimer's disease, memory often is not significantly impaired until late stages of FTLD.

We wish him well. The symptoms include:

...increasing difficulty with speech and Parkinson's disease-like movement problems. Also common are marked personality and behavior changes - such as becoming especially extroverted or withdrawn, overeating, loss of awareness of personal hygiene.
There is no cure; treatment consists of attempting to alleviate symptoms.

Bush knew:

One official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Domenici informed President Bush of his intentions earlier in the week.

Made In China McConnell and Pajama Pete Domenici are headliners. As well they should be.

Three are Democrats, which means about 86-87% of the most corrupt elected representatives in Washington are Republicans. Funny, I thought that figure would be higher...They must be trying really hard to behave over there at RNC HQ.
