Former NBA star Alonzo Mourning shares his personal triumph over the life-threatening kidney disease focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. Regarding his ability to draw strength from crisis, Mourning states that "in every adversity there is a seed of equivalent benefit."

Alonzo Mourning is a former NBA Champion and Georgetown Hoya. He graduated Georgetown in 1992 after playing four years of basketball and was the #2 pick in the draft that year.

Throughout his career, he played for the Charlotte Hornets, New Jersey Nets, and Miami Heat, with whom he won a championship in 2006. He also won a gold medal in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

In 2000, Mourning was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, a kidney disease that eventually necessitated a kidney transplant in 2003.

His new book, Resilience: Faith, Focus, Triumph, describes the numerous battles he faced in his life, and how he overcame them to end up where he is today - Georgetown University

Alonzo Mourning is a graduate of Georgetown University where he played basketball. He was selected second overall in the 1992 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets, behind Shaquille O'Neal. Mourning is a seven-time NBA All-Star and two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. He played for the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, and in the 2000 Olympics. Prior the start of the 2000-01 season with the Heat, Mourning was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, a disease of the kidneys.

www.ralphbuckley.com "So Long Ago" This is my own little mantra or chant...actually, for me the repetitiveness of this song is the healing part. Some songs just help me get through stuff. I was kinda in a trance singing this over and over when Marcie came home the other day. She set up the mics for me so we might try to record right then...I'm glad she did...it is very raw...but what would be the point of smoothing out the rough spots....this is not about aesthetics...its not what's on the surface that counts anymore. Perfection is like trying to mimic a machine...and a machine has no soul...(not yet anyways)....though I'd like to record this again with a band... ________________ We have all lost someone or something dear to us...some of us our more apt to a talk about it. I sing about it....but I cannot talk about it. It's just not something that I've ever been comfortable with.... all that counts is that I'm here now, and with whatever time I may have left...well I need to spend that time doing something other then appeasing my own selfishness....I've already wasted a lifetime doing that. We have all loved and lost, no one is immune to this....but death is not the horrible tragedy that we have been taught to fear...no it is a part of our spiritual journey back home... ...Mystics have always claimed to have had direct experience of the nature of ultimate reality, and seven centuries ago, Rumi, a Persian mystic, wrote the following enigmatic lines: I died a mineral and became a plant; I died a plant and rose an animal; I died an animal and I was a man. Why should I fear? When was I less by dying? Yet once more I shall die as a man, to soar With blessed angels; even from angelhood I must pass on ... When I have sacrificed my angel soul, I shall become that which no mind conceived. www.ralphbuckley.com Freedom...it is a strong word. It's a word that conjures up a wide variety of imagery in any individual. But like everything else...it has a multitude of meanings and definitions... A man might be free...but still enslaved to the ideas and influences that surround him! I like the way Jordan Maxwell put it: "I don't trust anyone who professes that they've found the truth...implying that there is no need to go any further. I would be much more inclined to befriend someone who is still 'looking for the truth'....keeping an open mind. Still open to learning new things". This is a real pickle....for the one who claims to know the truth...implies that it's kind of a 'closed end affair', and if you happen to disagree with the found 'truth' of an individual...then you may be about to embark upon a disagreement that could very likely end up turning into WW3. "I don't claim to know the truth...but I do claim to have glimpses of it...however brief...from time to time." said I to myself... Mind control in the 21st century has become quite the art form for the elite. Just how far the technology has come...is incomprehensible. Science fiction or fact... The little tid' bits of 'fringe' information that gets leaked out, here and there, is mind boggling enough in itself. Holographic technology? Human genome project??? Project looking glass??? Genetically Modified food??? this is some of what we've heard about. What about the stuff we haven't heard about??? What about the ground breaking discoveries (or nightmares) of....today??? _______________________ Let us simplify... Whatever faith you choose to endorse...whatever political party or candidate that turns your crank....whatever opinion you may or may not have about anyone, anybody or anything... Doesn't mean anything whatsoever without.....FREEDOM...!!!! _______________________ Freedom Calling is another improvised 'jam session'...again it is more about capturing the moment then it is about perfection... Not that I don't love producing and multi-tracking and mixing tracks...It's very much like being able to paint a picture with music...and the effects give you an endless array of colours to choose from. I love recording...and I started doing it when I was young by layering tracks with 2 portable cassette players. I knew that I wanted to do this....a long long time ago. But for right now...staying in the moment is what counts. I would love to expand on this song...let the imagination within your ear hear multiple percussion instruments and a stage full of people joining together. Can anyone see or visualize "Toobstock West - Peace Festival" Do you think we can make this happen? Do you want to see this happen...? There is a lot of folks...right here at u2b who are 'Wide Awake' as far as I'm concerned...if you know what I mean...!!! We can start a trend right here and NOW!!! Let us set a precedent!!! Ok, here's the reasons once again! First things first, we look at the community as a whole. My community is facing a turmoil! Manufacturing is quickly leaving the area. Population is declining and a national magazine has ranked Dayton, Ohio as well as four other cities in this state as the "fastest dying cities" in the nation.

Forbes magazine has written an article stating that economic recession has hit major cities in the "Rust Belt". Many people are fleeing the communities and leaving the city standing on its last leg.

The reasons why I do these "A Tour Of Poor Dayton" videos for both profiles is to give the people a retrospective of why a community like Dayton, Ohio can be affected by an economic recession, the loss of jobs, population, home foreclosure, urban sprawl and crime. This can affect not only the state of Ohio, but the United States in general.

Ohio is a swing state, and no presidential candidate can carry the general election without securing the state of Ohio.

These are the people who represent Dayton, Ohio. The mayor, your congressmen, your senators, and your governor.

The mayor of this city is Rhine McLin, a former state senator and funeral home director. She is a Democrat and super delegate to the Denver Democratic National Convention.

The congressmen who represent this area:
Mike Turner is a Republican United States congressman from the 3rd District and represents Dayton, Centerville, Wilmington, Springboro Wright Patterson AFB, and Kettering. He was the former mayor of Dayton and a lawyer.

John Boehner is the Minority Leader. The Republican leader is from the 8th District and representative from West Chester. His area includes Dayton, Huber Heights, Riverside, Hamilton, Middletown, Eaton, Greenville, Troy, Wright Patterson AFB, and Tipp City. He was a former businessman.

Sherrod Brown is the Democratic United States Class II Senator. He was a former United States congressman from the 13th District. He was a former professor.

George Voinovich is the Republican United States Class I Senator. He was the 65th governor of Ohio and former mayor of the city of Cleveland. He was an auditor, businessman and lawyer.

Ted Strickland is the current governor of Ohio. He is a Democrat. Strickland was the former United States congressman from the 6th District. He was a psychologist, college professor and pastor.
