Why electronic voting machines (especially so the "touch-screen" type made infamous in recent years) cannot be trusted as credible in Indecision 2008.

BoingBoing.net elaborates:

Max sez,

The Security Group at the University of California in Santa Barbara has released the video that shows the attacks carried out against the Sequoia voting system. I heard about the video when talking to some members of the group, but it was never made available to the public before. The video was shot as part of the Top-To-Bottom Review organized by the California Secretary of State. Even though the review was carried our in July 2007, the video has been posted only now, more than a year after (why?).
The video shows an attack where a virus-like software spreads across the voting system. The coolest part of the video is the one that shows how the "brainwashed" voting terminals can use different techniques to change the votes even when a paper audit trail is used. Pretty scary stuff. The video is proof that these types of attacks are indeed feasible and not just a conspiracy theory.

Also, the part that shows how the "tamperproof" seals can be completely bypassed is very funny (and disturbing at the same time).

Moral: If your state insists on using technologically-flawed touch-screen voting machines in the November elections, and if the election laws permit, ask for, and vote by, absentee ballot. And in the meantime, ask the relevant election officials to see these videos; hopefully, such will convince them to decertify such flawed voting technology as undermines electoral purity and integrity, and switch back to traditional hand-marked ballot papers.

======================

"Don't let 'em fool you, bro; read (and shop) The Exaggerator @ any and every opportunity...."

Many people may not know that our old friends Diebold were involved in the counting of New Hampshire ballots:

What's going on here? Before proceeding, I recommend you read the third section of the post I just ran an hour or so ago, concerning the way the ballots are counted in New Hampshire, largely on Diebold optical-scan voting systems, wholly controlled and programmed by a very very bad company named LHS Associates.

Those Diebold op-scan machines are the exact same ones that were hacked in the HBO documentary, Hacking Democracy. See the previous report, as I recommend, which also includes a video of that hack, and footage of the guy who runs LHS Associates.

I am not suggesting anything here. But Jesus, is it too much to ask that when you vote in a democracy, you have confidence in the results? In many states either completely or partially controlled by Democrats, they are allowing this kind of corporate unacountability to continue. It is a disgrace.

One man, a contractor named John Silvestro, will have unbelievable control over the process in states such as Connecticut, Vermont and Massachusetts. So if any of these three reliably blue states go red in November, you'll know why....just watch the video.
