Was it part of an omnibus appropriations bill?</p> <p>QUESTIONER: It was.</p> <p>MCCAIN: It was. So—</p> <p>QUESTIOENR: Seven years in the m—</p> <p>MCCAIN: You just gave me the answer. You g-, you just answered your own question sir. And I will do every—Please, I'll let you finish. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt you. Please. I apologize.</p> <p>QUESTIONER: The bill was seven years in the making, considered critical legislation to address the Everglades, supported by all the Republicans in the Florida delegation.</p> <p>MCCAIN: Well let me just say again, if it's a stand alone bill and it's authorized to fix the Everglades, then I will be one of the first—I'd like to know how to pay for it. I am committed to the preservation of the Everglades. I do not and will not, and am proud not to have, voted for omnibus spending bills, for which, in many cases, there's no authorization, nor is there hearings or scrutiny. I am committed to saving the Everglades. I will do whatever is necessary to do so and I have made that clear to the rest of the delegation. And yet, if we start piling on project after project, some of them, as I said, good and some of them bad, as I was just mentioning about the earmark process and then spending gets completely out of control. But I can assure that I am in favor in doing whatever is necessary in saving the Everglades as it is a, not just a great Florida treasure but a great national treasure. And I'll be again, glad to look at that vote, but I, but I am not, from the number, I don't memorize the numbers on votes. Maybe you could tell me the title of the bill that it was? [pause] But anyway, probably don't know it, the point is, I will do what I can to save the Everglades. I will not vote for bills that have projects and other things voted on to them that have not gone through the proper scrutiny. But if the bill came to the floor to save the Everglades, I know very few members of congress that would ever oppose it. Now the farm bill, we need to help some farmers in need. This farm bill is a $300 billion, loaded down with pork barrel, earmark projects at a time when Americans are hurting economically, they're trying to keep their job, they're trying to keep their home and we're gonna give $93 million to race horse, to thoroughbed, uh, thoroughbred racehorse's owners [booing] and we're gonna give billions of dollars to farmers that make over $200,000 a year and we're going to give billions of dollars for farmers not to grow anything. My friends, this bill deserves your condemnation, the president's vetoing it. To its everlasting shame, the congress of the United States, Republican and Democrat will override the veto. I will veto a farm bill and I will make 'em famous and I can tell you that we're not going to have business as usual in Washington when I'm president of the United States. [cheering] Let me also tell you—And so, what did Sen. Obama do? The person who wants change? He's going to—he's supporting that farm bill. He's supporting those pork barrel projects. My friends, I think the only change he's trying to make is to business as usual in Washington. Tony Perkins, has in recent years taken the lead in promoting &quot;origins science,&quot; which includes the possibility of divine intervention in the creation of the universe. </p><p>The group&#39;s stated mission is to &quot;persuasively present biblical principles in the centers of influence on issues affecting the family through research, communication and networking.&quot; Until recently, its Web site contained a &quot;battle plan to combat evolution,&quot; which called the theory a &quot;dangerous&quot; concept that &quot;has no place in the classroom.&quot; The document was removed after a reporter&#39;s inquiry. </p><p>Vitter, Forum have ties </p><p>The group&#39;s tax-exempt status prohibits the Louisiana Family Forum from political activity, but Vitter has close ties to the group. Dan Richey, the group&#39;s grass-roots coordinator, was paid $17,250 as a consultant in Vitter&#39;s 2004 Senate race. Records also show that Vitter&#39;s campaign employed Beryl Amedee, the education resource council chairwoman for the Louisiana Family Forum. </p><p>The group has been an advocate for the senator, who was elected as a strong supporter of conservative social issues. When Vitter&#39;s use of a Washington, D.C., call-girl service drew comparisons last month to the arrest of Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, in what an undercover officer said was a solicitation for sex in an airport men&#39;s room, Family Forum Executive Director Gene Mills came to Vitter&#39;s defense. </p></blockquote><p>Well, of course. Good to know Vitter is not only sexually corrupt, but financially too. Oh, and also good to know that Family Forum values their principles so much, that they would defend the multi-whoring of David Vitter.</p><p>Republican hypocrisy continues unabated.</p></p> </div>
