The people have spoken! A record-setting 130 million people turned out to vote in yesterday's election, in which Barack Obama made history on a Democratic tidal wave of victory.

Polling suggests voters came out in record numbers because of growing concerns over the economy, jobs, healthcare, energy, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Clearly, the Obama administration and the new Democratic majority in Washington have a chance to make profound changes in our lives stretching from Wall Street to Main Street. But where should they begin?

On this Friday's Meet the Bloggers, we'll examine this question and more with Jonathan Alter, Newsweek senior editor and contributing correspondent for NBC. This is the seventh election Alter has covered for Newsweek, and he'll bring his unique perspective to the discussion. Alter is also the author of the national bestseller, The Defining Moment: FDR's Hundred Days and the Triumph of Hope. He'll talk about how Roosevelt restored Americans' faith in democracy and put the country back to work during the Great Depression, as well as the challenges and opportunities Obama faces during his first days in office.

Jesse Ventura, also known as "The Body", "The Star", and "The Governing Body", is an American politician, retired professional wrestler, Navy UDT veteran, actor, and former radio and television talk show host. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004. He is also a former co-holder of the AWA World tag team title with Adrian Adonis.

In the Minnesota gubernatorial election of 1998, running as an Independent and member of the Reform Party, he was elected the 38th Governor of Minnesota and served from January 4, 1999 to January 6, 2003 without seeking a second term.

Dr. Michael Fullilove, Program Director for Global Issues at the Lowy Institute for International Policy, has worked as a lawyer, a volunteer in the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor, and an adviser to Prime Minister Paul Keating. He was a consultant to Frank Lowy AC on the establishment of the Lowy Institute.

Michael graduated in international relations and law from the Universities of Sydney and New South Wales, with dual university medals. He also studied as a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford, where he took a master's degree in international relations and wrote his doctorate on Franklin D. Roosevelt's foreign policy. His dissertation was awarded the annual prize for the best international history thesis in Britain.

Rudy's top fundraiser Paul Singer is the man behind the Missouri curtain:

The group, Californians for Equal Representation, had received exactly one donation for $175,000, from a mysterious, Missouri-based corporation identified only as Take Initiative America.

I'm still celebrating that my state wasn't duped by this guy.

The lack of specifics left organizers in California open to allegations they had something to hide, and several — among them lead lawyer Tom Hiltachk and spokesman Kevin Eckery — resigned Thursday rather than defend the arrangement.

Let's take some of the mystery away.

“I contributed to the Take Initiative America because I believe in proportional voting in the Electoral College,” Singer said in a statement e-mailed to The News. “I made the contribution without any restrictions, including whether or how it would need to be disclosed. I left disclosure completely up to TIA.”
Sources added later that all $175,000 came from Singer, a founding partner of Elliot Associates, a $7 billion hedge fund with a long history of funding GOP causes.

Odd, isn't it, how Republicans feel the need to hide their every sleazy move? Here's what we avoided:

[E]lectoral votes would be apportioned to the winner in each congressional district — a change likely to shift up to 22 of those 55 votes into the GOP column, given the number of safely Republican districts in the state.

Okay, now, here comes the funny part. Ready?

Sources close to Singer insisted that his support for the ballot change was unrelated to his work for the Giuliani campaign, where he is a member of the national finance committee.

Hahahaaaa! Yeah right! Hahahahahahaaaa!

“It’s pretty clear that all of this is coming back to bite Rudy in his posterior,” said Democratic strategist Chris Lehane, who had worked to defeat the ballot initiative.

And by posterior, Lehane meant Rudy's face. It's been up there so long, they've become indistinguishable.

But all you need to know is it is the usual crowd (yes, the Swift Boaters are involved--known for their strong interest in "reform" measures), you know the ones who impeach, steal Florida, redistrict mid-decade, jam phones in New Hampshire, prosecute Democrats for political purposes, don't provide enough voting machines to poorer neighborhoods in Cleveland, etc.

They can't win with ideas in honest elections, so they steal votes any way they can. Listen to what Rick has to say, give some money and stop these micreants from finding another way to destroy our democracy with only support from a very very stupid minority of the people.
