The devastating details of war profiteering are front and center in a major story in the Los Angeles Times this morning.

With emails, internal communications and details, the story provides heartbreaking insight into the decision by Halliburton-KBR to send truck drivers to their death.

In working on IRAQ FOR SALE, this story of the "Friday massacre" was one of the most devastating sections of the film. All of us who worked on the film continue to be haunted by the interviews we did with the two surviving truck drivers, and the wives and children of the truck drivers who were killed. The section of the film where we expose this profiteering continues to outrage and inflame audiences. Todays article in the Times will intensity the outrage as well it should.

The decision to send these truck drivers into a region they were told was going to cost lives was made for the pure financial gain of Halliburton-KBR. It brings home once again the disaster of building profit into the war effort. And the irony of Halliburton threatening the Times with a possible lawsuit!

We must continue to insist that investigations continue and legislation be passed to stop the corporations who have made a science of profit over patriotism.

Salee and her father arrived in Amman on May 24. Maki Al Nazzal, regional coordinator of No More Victims, was there to greet them. Maki managed a medical clinic in Fallujah during the April 2004 Siege, and has worked to assist and protect the civilian population of his city ever since.

I arrived in Amman a little over a week ago, and preparations are underway for Salee’s journey to Greenville, South Carolina. You can follow Salee’s progress by watching the video updates that we’ll be posting here in coming weeks. You'll see interviews with Salee, her father, and community organizers in Amman, Greenville, and Fallujah. You’ll also learn more about the hardships Iraqi families face every day.

Teacher. Provider. Mentor. Protector. Moral Compass. Disciplinarian. Confidante. Friend.

These are just a few of the roles a father plays. This year instead of short-changing dad with another funky tie to crowd the closet, or cologne that he will never open, send him an e-card that will help sponsor an Iraqi child wounded by war. for surgery. You can honor the man who taught you how to throw a baseball or drove you to ballet lessons by providing security, health, and love to a child whose father was unable to protect his son due to war.

Thank you to everyone who donated to No More Victims for Mother's Day. Through your support we busted through our goal of $29,900 to bring Salee to the United States for treatment. The additional money will be used by No More Victims to help another war-injured Iraqi child receive the medical attention they need.

Ten-year-old Salee was injured on November 7, 2006 while playing outside her home in Hasswa, Iraq with her brother, cousin and some friends. On that day, US jets flew overhead firing three missiles at two passenger vehicles. One of the missiles hit Salee's home, killing her brother and taking both of Salee's legs.

No More Victims has arranged for Salee to receive surgical and prosthetics services in Greenville, South Carolina. This medical treatment is unavailable to her in Iraq.

Salee just left Fallujah and is currently in Damascus, Syria. Her and her father will be meeting with Cole Miller, the founder of No More Victims, in Amman, Jordan in the next couple of weeks. Cole will assist them with the visa process and escort them to South Carolina, where the doctors at Shriner's Hospital will take care of Salee. We will be posting updates on Salee's recovery here, so please come back to follow her progress.
