JOHN MCCAIN: "[...] I think you could also find statistics that show where there are single-parent families that the chances of the children succeeding are somewhat less, that the strongest unit in America is the two-parent family organization [...] I think that the President did a good job, a fine job, in supporting faith-based organizations.

"I also think that we should do everything that we can, and one of those, in my view, is respect for human life, both born and the unborn. [standing ovation] It's one of the big differences between myself and Sen Obama, who voted against, as a member of the Illinois state legislature in the judiciary committee, voted against a ban on partial-birth abortions, one of the most odious things that I have ever heard of. [...] I want us to make adoption more available. I want us to understand that every life is precious and that there is a family in America for every child. [...] Finally [...] I think that if we inspire Americans [...] to serve a cause greater than their self-interest, to join organizations such as the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts, to do those kinds of community activities, [...] I think it's obvious that families are strengthened and those values are strengthened, and America is strengthened because of it. You ask a very interesting question. And I'll think more about it. [...] I do think all the time about how we can strengthen our values and our nation, which remains a beacon of hope and freedom throughout the world. But I'll also think more about it thanks to your question."

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict ushered in the New Year on Tuesday by criticizing policies that undermine the traditional family, saying they eroded one of the most important foundations for peace in the world.
The Pontiff, delivering a traditional New Year prayer for peace, appeared to take a swipe at efforts in several countries to grant legal recognition to gay and unwed couples -- although he did not single out any policies by name.

He said the traditional family led by a husband and wife instilled values that promote peace, and added it was an "irreplaceable" institution.
"Those who are hostile, even unknowingly, to the institution of the family ... make peace fragile for the entire national and international community," the Pope told crowds gathered in a sunny St. Peter's Square.

It's so obvious! Unwed and gay couples reek of hostility, especially against families. I haven't met a same-sex couple yet who hasn't said to me, "You know, Laffy, family life is despicable. My partner and I were just on our way out to buy a couple of missile launchers and some ammo. This is war! And furthermore, we're passing out fliers at every Target store in the area that say so! Grrrrrrrr.

And it's catching. The more I think about it, the more I realize that I can barely stand next to a loving gay couple without it making me want to join the Taliban.

"The family is the primary agent of peace and the negation or even the restriction of rights of the family ... threatens the very foundations of peace."

Someone get Condi Rice on the phone. It's time for a summit. And shhh, nobody tell Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Rudy Giuliani, Newt Gingrich, David Vitter, or Bob Allen, but the CIA's after all of them, too, for complicity to end world peace.

Hey, wouldn't it be ironic if, say, gay sex was discovered at the Vatican? Nah, that could never happen.

No, what got the attack dogs at FOX hungry and looking for flesh was none other than an expose of their smut peddling! It makes sense in a way, because advertisers tend not to like their products being promoted between segments of soft porn. And a large part of their conservative base hates this as well, which might be why one Christian organization compared the way women were dressed on FOX to the manner in which "hookers" are attired.

Remember my bud GOP State Senator Curtis from yesterday? Well, looks like the police report is finally out. And so is Curtis.

The report is filled with graphic details of an encounter that began at a porn store on a Spokane Valley strip and concluded miles away in Curtis' room at the city's poshest hotel.
The police report contains an account of how Curtis allegedly donned women's clothing, red stockings and a black sequined lingerie top before engaging in a sex act at the store. He continued to wear them throughout the night under his clothing.

Castagna is a 26-year-old waiter from the Spokane area who allegedly tried to blackmail Curtis for $1,000 and threatened to reveal his "gay lifestyle" to the lawmaker's wife if he did not pay.

With that complexion, I would have gone for some softer pastels personally. Black and red are very harsh on blondes.

GOP State Congressman Curtis denies gay sexual encounter

Deny, deny, deny.

State Rep. Richard Curtis, R-La Center, caught in a statewide media frenzy over an ongoing extortion investigation in Spokane, said Monday he did nothing wrong.
Curtis denied a report that he was involved in a sexual encounter with another man and emphatically said he is not gay.
"I committed no crime," Curtis said Monday afternoon. "I did not solicit sex. I was trying to help somebody out."

I've heard that line before!!!

"C'mon, just help a fella out, will ya?" I never fell for it though.

The Spokesman-Review newspaper reported Monday that the alleged extortionist is a reputed male prostitute. DeRuwe would not confirm that report and said prostitution did not appear to be involved in the case.
A Spokane TV station, KREM, reported on its Web site that investigators said Curtis and the man had a sexual encounter and were seen together at various spots around the city.

"I am not gay," he told Brancaccio. "I have not had sex with a guy."

"Look, the rest of this will all come out," he said. "I can't say anything more until I have talked to my attorney. I have never been in this situation before."

Elected to the state House of Representatives in 2004, Curtis has voted like a fiscal and social conservative. This spring, he voted against domestic partnerships for gay and lesbian couples. Last year, he opposed a gay rights bill that banned discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

CANBERRA (Reuters) - A family values campaigner accused of taking pornographic photographs of himself has been dumped as a candidate for Australia's November election by the Christian-values Family First Party.
Sydney music teacher Andrew Quah, 21, admitted photographs showing his penis and circulating widely on gay websites had embarrassed his party and made his candidacy untenable.
"But that's not my penis," Quah told the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, adding one of the images may have been digitally altered.
"I might have been drunk off my face, or my political enemies might have drugged me," Quah said. "It was a mistake that I would not have committed had I been of right mind. All I know, I have been humiliated."

I'm guessing he's been humiliated for a completely different reason, since the people who have seen the pictures have dubbed him, "The Smallest Loser". My.
