This is a fans' interpretation of my song "Lon Chaney". Thanks D!
--- Garland

Oh Lon Chaney,
where you been so long?
Sit right down
and let me sing you a song.
I seen you on a movie in my room.

Oh Lon Chaney,
with the velvet touch,
a silver dagger and a black man's crutch.
Now's the time to come out from your tomb.
You look so sad,
with a face of stone,
with a hunchback's eye you live.

Oh Lon Chaney,
with the velvet touch,
a gypsy woman that you love so much.
Say goodbye,
you're cured,
you're free at last.

Oh Lon Chaney,
what's to hold you back?
The Wolfman's dead
and the old black cat is gone,
like a memory faded from your past.
You look so sad,
with a face of stone,
just skin and bone.
You're all alone,
with a hunchback's eye you live.

Mr. Fooster Traveling on a Whim is a visual novel sparingly written and illuminated with 52 pen-and-ink illustrations. Mr. Fooster seems like your average fellow, albeit one who travels with an old bottle of bubble soap. One Tuesday morning, however, he takes us into a rich and vivid world unlike any we've seen before. As he heads out the door, Mr. Fooster's boundless curiosity leads him to reflect on questions such as How do mandarin oranges come in perfect little segments without any mechanical engineering? How come we never see baby pigeons? And Who figured out how to eat artichokes? Mr. Fooster shows us that our assumptions are best when challenged.

This book represents an unusual collaboration between Tom Corwin—who is a musician, producer and author, and Craig Frazier—who is a designer, illustrator and author. Tom will read from the book accompanied by a visual and live musical presentation. Craig will reveal his developmental sketches and process. Together they will describe their own 'creative boomerang' that gave Mr. Fooster wings.

This event took place on August 6, 2008, as a part of the Authors@Google series.

A stylish and hilarious novel about the lives and loves of well-to-do young Manhattanites in their first year on Wall Street, destined to become one of the year's most buzzed-about debuts. Mergers & Acquisitions is the story of Tommy Quinn, a recent Georgetown grad who has just landed the job of his dreams as an investment banker at J. S. Spenser, and the perfect girl, Frances Sloan, the daughter of one of New York's oldest moneyed families. As he travels from the most exclusive ball rooms of the Racquet and Tennis Club to the stuffiest boardrooms of J. S. Spenser, from the golf links of Piping Rock to the bedrooms of Park Avenue to the Ritalin-strewn prep-school dorm room of his younger brother, he finds that the job and the girl are not what they once seemed.

Dana Vachon was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, and raised in Chappaqua, New York. He attended Duke University, graduating, as he claims, "cum nihilo" in 2002. Following graduation, Vachon landed a job at J. P. Morgan as an analyst and began work on this novel. His writing has appeared in the International Herald Tribune, Men's Vogue, The New York Times, and Salon.

This event took place on April 16, 2008, as a part of the Authors@Google series.

Two-time Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Bill Guttentag examines the ongoing popularity of reality TV shows.

-----

The Real and The Reality of Documentary Film with filmmaker Bill Guttentag.

The popularity of documentary films has exploded in recent years, resulting in a constant flow of narratives based on true events and real people. In a world where many would rather watch than read, the veracity of these films is often unquestioned. Should it be? Do these films manipulate reality? What are the responsibilities of the filmmaker? Guttentag tackles these and many other questions - The Commonwealth Club of California

Bill Guttentag, a two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker, wrote and directed Live!, a dramatic feature starring Eva Mendes, Andre Braugher, and David Krumholtz. The film was produced by Chuck Roven/Mosaic Media Group and distributed by The Weinstein Company. He also wrote and directed Nanking, a documentary which premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. The film includes a stage reading he wrote that features Woody Harrelson, Mariel Hemingway, and Jurgen Prochnow. Nanking was released theatrically this winter by THINKFilm and will air later in the year on HBO.

In 2003 Bill Guttentag won an Oscar for the documentary Twin Towers (Universal). It was his second Academy Award; the first was for You Don't Have to Die, a film he made for HBO.

He has also received three additional Oscar nominations, as well as two Emmy Awards. His films have been selected three times for the Sundance Film Festival and have played and won awards at numerous American and international film festivals. His films have received a number of special screenings, including one at the White House.

A wildly original debut, Maynard and Jennica weaves together dozens of voices to give us an unforgettable love story -- wrapped up in a hilarious urban comedy, a page-turning literary mystery, and a portrait of our times. Maynard Gogarty is a defeated musician, a reformed misanthrope who makes a hobby of surreptitiously filming the fashion faux pas of New York City commuters. On an uptown 6 train in the sweltering summer of 2000 he meets Jennica Green, a nostalgic Californian who calculates that she's been lonesome 68.53 percent of her adult life. Though their initial acquaintance is fleeting, when fate next brings them together, at a screening of Maynard's film, romance intrudes. And as with most things in life, everyone has an opinion. In the case of Maynard and Jennica, everyone includes many living and some dead relatives, a sultry scam artist who may or may not be Russian or Israeli or German, a hip-hop impresario named Puppy Jones, several dubious lawyers, a long-lost best friend, and a freelance contributor to The New Yorker. Exuberantly illuminating much that is telling (and often horrifying) about our times, fast-paced, and wryly funny, Maynard and Jennica introduces an astonishing number of narrators -- thirty-five in all -- while remaining true to the relationships at its heart. The result is an uproarious and deeply moving tour de force. Delson has given us a pair of lovers who are flawed, complex, at once eccentric and deeply familiar -- and in whose story we continue to feel invested long after we've turned the last page.

This event took place at the Google NYC campus on January 4, 2008

Actor Harry Shearer reads an excerpt from his novel, "Not Enough Indians."

This clip contains explicit language.

-----

Meet the residents of Gammage, NY, a town so far down on its luck that WalMart would rather site its new store in the middle of a lake than in Gammage. Mayor Zorn and the rest of the town council are on the verge of declaring the town bankrupt, when inspiration strikes. Why not petition for Indian Tribal status and open a casino? With the gears in Washington appropriately greased, the ink is barely dry on their Tribal certification when Gammage is transformed into the sovereign nation of the long-lost Filaquonsett tribe.

It's only a matter of trading in their housecoats and galoshes for buckskins and moccasins, and boning up on their tribal lore and ceremonial dances, until the "Council of Elders" is ready to import some casino backing and gaming know-how...Funny, smart, antic, and scathing, "Not Enough Indians" is a brilliant ensemble piece mixing misadventure, hilarity, and the great American dream, from actor, musician, SNL cast member, voice of The Simpsons, and now novelist Harry Shearer.

Carl Hiaasen writes, "Harry Shearer has one of America's great satirical minds, and he's in beautifully wicked form with Not Enough Indians." Harry Shearer's nationally syndicated radio show, Le Show, has been on the air for sixteen years, and his political blog runs in huffingtonpost.com - Cody's Books

Novelist and PBS talk show host Jim Lehrer discusses the protagonist from his latest fiction novel, "The Phony Marine," a story about a man who pretends to be a war hero after buying an authentic Silver Star medal on eBay.

-----

Jim Lehrer, himself a former Marine, perfectly captures the importance of presentation, or impersonation, in his Washington-based novel "The Phony Marine."

Lehrer dives into a highly controversial topic and delivers his most compelling character portrait to date. Late one night, Hugo Marder stumbles upon an online auction for a Silver Star, the medal awarded for bravery in battle. He bids and wins. But it is only after he places the lapel pin on his jacket that he realizes the enormity of his actions - Politics and Prose

Lehrer started work with PBS network in 1973, and in 1975 started The MacNeil/Lehrer Report with Robert MacNeil. The show was later renamed The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, and in its most recent incarnation is known as The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.

"The Black Dahlia" author James Ellroy reads an excerpt from his friend Bruce Wagner's fiction novel, "Memorial."

-----

Mourning Becomes Electric: Bruce Wagner's "Memorial" and James Ellroy's "The Black Dahlia"

There are few, if any, American novelists who have received such consistent and high acclaim as Bruce Wagner. Be it the cult classic "Force Majeure," the groundbreaking "Cell Phone Trilogy" (I'm Losing You, I'll Let You Go, and Still Holding), or the Gatsby-like "The Chrysanthemum Palace" (a 2005 PEN Faulkner award finalist), critics and writers, from Michiko Kakutani to John Updike to James Ellroy, have hailed Wagner as our great fiction chronicler of Hollywood and the broken lives of La Vie L.A. With his richly orchestrated new novel "Memorial," Wagner ventures far beyond filmdom's gates, interweaving the stories of four estranged family members coping with their lives in the wake of natural and unnatural global disaster - and creates a breathtaking saga of faith, redemption, and spirituality in the 21st century.

Wagner's friend James Ellroy is, of course, the author of "The Black Dahlia," which has just hit the screens in Brian De Palma's movie version of this contemporary classic, as well as the novels "The Big Nowhere," "L.A. Confidential," and "White Jazz," all four of which are known as the L.A. Quartet. He's also the author of "American Tabloid," and the memoir "My Dark Places." - Cody's Books
