FOX: Obama is “bashing the American Dream” for attacking McCain’s home cluelessness

FOX and the Republicans have gone into overdrive trying to defend John McCain for not knowing how many homes he owns. As you’ve seen on this blog, they’ve attempted to explain it away with made up excuses, deflect it by claiming that calling out McCain’s cluelessness is somehow attacking Cindy McCain, and there’s the ever-popular, way-overused, “But he was a POW!” card that supposedly excuses you for every unethical, stupid thing you’ve ever done, said, or will do or say in the future.

Predictably, the right is attempting to reframe McCain’s cluelessness by saying that Barack Obama is actually attacking people for doing well and owning multiple homes, not people like McCain who are so clueless/obscenely wealthy that they don’t know or care how many homes they own. On Your World, Neil Cavuto claimed that by attacking McCain for having multiple homes, Obama was really “bashing the American Dream.”

The American Dream is not to become so obscenely wealthy that you lose track of how many homes you own and don't know/care how wealthy you are. For the vast majority of Americans, including myself, the American Dream is owning one home, paying it off, raising your family there, and being able to send your kids to college. Having too many homes is the dream of the extremely rich. But McCain thinks the problem with America isn’t that people are losing their homes and their jobs and seeing their wages decrease. No. John McCain thinks America's real problem is that rich people and corporations don’t have enough money.

Want to know what happens when we sing FOX's praises?

It is deeply detrimental to the longterm interests of democracy when Democrats praise and support FOX News. This would be true regardless of who that Democrat is, but it's particularly heinous when Terry McAuliffe, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, is singing their praises.

"Let me congratulate FOX," McAuliffe said this past week, "because you were the first ones to call [the Pennsylvania primary] for Hillary Clinton." McAuliffe, who is also chairing Clinton's Presidential committee, actually echoed the FOX mantra by calling them "fair and balanced." What is so dangerous about McAuliffe's praise is that FOX is now using his words as a TV ad to prove just how fair and balanced they are. The rest of us know the truth.

Jonathan put together this video as a reminder of how exceedingly unfair and imbalanced FOX actually is. These are just few gems to let McAuliffe and others know that FOX is the foe, has always been the foe, and will continue to be the foe of accurate reporting.

FOX News: More Smears in 9 Minutes Than Most Media Deliver All Day

On Monday, I told you about the Obama carpet-bombing campaign FOX has initiated. Their plan is clear: saturate their network with constant negative stories about Obama by mangling and spinning his fairly benign comment about rural voters or demonizing Obama’s former minister, hoping that enough of them will stick to sufficiently cripple Obama’s chances in this Tuesday’s Pennsylvania primary.

Their ultimate goal is to help Hillary Clinton win big enough in PA so she can make the argument to superdelegates that she should be the democratic nominee, even though she has no chance of beating Obama in pledged delegates. FOX and the Republicans want Clinton to be the nominee because they think John McCain has a better chance of beating her than Obama (though I don’t think McCain could beat either).

So here’s a short teaser to give you an idea of how bad it really is on FOX. All of these clips were taken from the first NINE MINUTES (before the first commercial break) of the Monday April 14, 2008 episode of Your World w/ Neil Cavuto, which purports to be a business show. And more stories followed, including Cavuto paraphrasing neocon William Kristol’s scurrilous New York Times op-ed (published the same day) that Obama sounds “very Karl Marxie,” then attributing the sentiment to an unnamed Democrat.

This is what just nine minutes of FOX looks like. There are 1,440 minutes in a day, and over 8,640 minutes until the Pennsylvania primary this Tuesday. FOX also attacked Hillary a bit, since while they want her to win the nomination, it’s only so she can lose the presidency.
