Daily Show Mocks Gay Marriage Ban or Chickens?

When California voters eliminated the right of same sex couples to get married last week, it led to an immediate legal challenge from the ACLU of Northern California and some ironic commentary from Jon Stewart on the Daily Show, both of which I discuss in this video.

JOHN MCCAIN: Ive been very touched already by this chance Ive had to be with you all.

QUESTIONER: Thank you again for just being here today in this type of venue. My question is that you and your opponent are on polar opposites on many of the issues. My question to you is, which of those issues do you think most effects main stream America and why?

MCCAIN: Thank you, thats an excellent question. Can I say that, I think its a fundamental disagreement about who is best able to help our economy. Whether it be through lower taxes and less government and more job opportunities, and alternate energy, and affordable and available healthcare, which is basically the way I feel about these challenges. And Senator Obama has a clear record of wanting government to do the job that citizens do. He has voted expanding beurocracies. He has supported, as I mentioned, 94 times to raise your taxes. His healthcare plan creates beaurocracies that I think are unnecessary in many respects. I think that he does not have a clear understanding of the role of the military, and how important the men and women in the military are, and how important it is to have victory. I dont think this is the time to increase spending on the part of government. Senator Obama has proposed $860 billion worth of new government spending. I think one of our biggest problems is that we didnt restrain spending. And we let the spending get completely out of control. And guess what, we owe China $500 billion because we, your government, your elected officials, didnt get spending under control.
