Rudy Giuliani
Town Hall
Manchester, NH 1/08/08

TRANSCRIPT:
RUDY GIULIANI: "(pointing to little girl in the crowd) And it's so nice to see this young lady here with us because here's our future, right? This is this is what it's all about. It's all about it's all about being able to pass this country on from one generation to the next as better, improved, fairer. A country that's even stronger. A country that's even better.
And in my travels around the country this year—and I've been in many, many places—there is a certain um concern that this may be the time in which the country is passed along from one generation to the next not as not as strong not as not as inclusive not as—and that that is isn't so. The reality is we have the capability of doing exactly the same thing that our parents and our grandparents and our great-grandparents did. And that is being able to pass on this country along even stronger, even fairer, even um more prosperous, with even more people um moving um with the social mobility that we're known for in America. And the choices we make at an election have a lot to do with that."

John Palfrey visits Google's Mountain View, CA headquarters to discuss his book "Born Digital: Connecting with a Global Generation of Digital Native." This event took place on September 15, 2008, as part of the Authors@Google series.

The most enduring change wrought by the digital revolution is neither the new business models nor the new search algorithms, but rather the massive generation gap between those who were born digital and those who were not. Based on original research, Born Digital explores a broad range of issues, from the highly philosophical to the purely practical: What does identity mean for young people who have dozens of online profiles and avatars? Should we worry about privacy issues or is privacy even a relevant concern for digital natives? How does the concept of safety translate into an increasingly virtual world? Is stranger-danger a real problem, or a red herring? What lies ahead socially, professionally, and psychologically for this generation?

John Palfrey is Clinical Professor of Law and Executive Director of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School. He is a regular commentator on network news programs, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, Fox News, NPR and BBC. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Jonah Raskin, editor of "The Radical Jack London," discusses the legendary author's controversial, and often contradictory, political beliefs.

-----

Jonah Raskin talks about The Radical Jack London. He lays out the social, economic, and political context for London's writings and shows him to be America’s leading revolutionary writer at the turn of the twentieth century.

Raskin is the author of American Scream: Allen Ginsberg’s Howl and The Making of the Beat Generation - Book Passage

Jonah Raskin is the author of The Radical Jack London. He left an East Coast university teaching position to participate in the 1970s radical counterculture as a free-lance journalist, returned to the academy in California in the 1980s to write probing studies of Abbie Hoffman and Allen Ginsberg, and reviews of northern California writers whom he styled as "natives, newcomers, exiles and fugitives."

Beginning as a lecturer in English at Sonoma State University in 1981, he moved to chair of the Communications Studies Department from 1988 to 2007, while serving as a book reviewer for the San Francisco Chronicle and the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Author Tom Barbash reads a selection from Jack Kerouac's influential 1957 novel "On the Road."

-----

"On the Road: The 50th Anniversary," featuring Robert Mailer Anderson, Eddie Muller and Tom Barbash.

Join Bay Area novelist Robert Mailer Anderson as he leads a celebration of Jack Kerouac's famous novel "On the Road: 50th Anniversary Edition." Kerouac's book was first published in 1957, and it has come to epitomize the spirit and ideas of the Beat Generation, which had its origins in San Francisco. Maybe a few lusty readings from the book will revive the spirit! - Book Passage

Tom Barbash is an American writer of fiction and nonfiction, educator and critic.
The second show of "Sick of the Lies", a spin-off to the Young Turks, late "Absolute Truth." In this show I comment on Jill Pike's stunning calendar/Wikipedia entry, Bush's colonoscopy, the 25th Amendment, War with Iran, Max Blumenthal's Generation Chickenhawk, Mitt the "Pitt" Romney's link to porn, Lindsay Lohan's cesspool, and Paris Hilton's new album.

Did I mention that I met Billy Corgan yesterday! Check the next segment for more details and don't forget to check out the Young Turks at www.theyoungturks.com!!!
