Top Hillary supporter and Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell privately appealed to billionaire George Soros for cash to help fund a new primary in Michigan -- a request that Soros is declining, a source familiar with their conversation tells Election Central.

Dear George Soros, thanks for nothing. Love, Hillary

The private appeal by one of Hillary's most important national supporters to one of the wealthiest men in the country is yet another indication of just how hard the Hillary camp is working behind the scenes to get a Michigan revote -- and how many backstage angles they're working to make it happen.

Soros spokesperson Michael Vachon: "George Soros does not support holding another primary in Michigan because he believes doing so will further delay the selection of a Democratic candidate in November."

Fund for America takes on Freedom's Watch

Billionaire George Soros is weighing in heavily with more cash, delivering $2.5 million to a new political organization called Fund for America.
According to a year-end campaign report filed with the Internal Revenue Service and uncovered by The Times' Dan Morain, Fund for America was organized by Taco Bell heir Rob McKay, former Clinton White House Chief of Staff John Podesta and Anna Burger of the Service Employees International Union. The SEIU matched Soros with another $2.5 million, too. Other major donors include investor Donald Sussman, who has given $1 million and AKT Development of Sacramento.
Although it cannot get directly involved in advocacy for or against candidates, Fund for America is expected to air television ads and take other political action aimed at helping Democrats claim the White House and retain control of Congress.The group is organized as a "527," so named for the revenue code section that defines it.
Fund for America is the liberal answer to the conservative Freedom's Watch, organized by former political aides to President Bush and funded by wealthy Republicans including billionaire Sheldon Adelson of Las Vegas. But as a nonprofit corporation, Freedom's Watch is not required to disclose its donors.

Sounds good to me.

This story's in a couple of places, but it's too much fun not to share here (h/t to Steve Benen).

According to the St. Petersburg Times, the FBI raided Florida's WellCare Health Plans headquarters, as did the U.S. Attorney’s office, HHS investigators, and the Florida Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.

Included in that report was mention of George Soros and how he had increased WellCare's earnings eight-fold.

Right wing blogs saw the reference to Soros and pounced. Conservatives hit the St. Petersburg Times comments section, with insights such as, “I hope they prosecute that worm GEORGE SORROS [sic] added, “Welcome to George Soros’s America?”

Oopsies! Someone didn't do their homework!

As it turns out, there are two big problems with the story. First, Soros sold off his interests in the company quite a while ago.

Oh no! Really? Heh. Okay, okay, but what about second? Tell us the second part!!!

Second, WellCare is actually run by Bush Pioneers and generous Republican donors.

Oh nooooo!

Now remember, Soros sold off his interests in 2006, before WellCare’s alleged "situation".

Oh dear and oh my, this is turning out to be more embarrassing than...well, staging your own news conference!

WellCare CEO is Todd Farha and Finance Director David Hart both raised over $100,000 in donations for Bush’s presidential campaign, and were the two biggest fundraisers for Bush in Tampa.

As Benen says,

[I]t’s ironic when the right goes after [Soros] and ends up highlighting alleged fraud committed by major Bush backers.

Tsk tsk, isn't it though?

A recent Indiana University study of Bill O'Reilly found that he is a greater propagandist than even the notorious Father Charles Coughlin of the late 1930s. One indicator studied was the use and frequency of which O'Reilly uses derogatory names to describe a person or a group. According to the research, on average, O'Reilly name-calls once every 6.8 seconds during his talking points segment.

In a recent Factor O'Reilly made light of the accusations by claiming only to have name called 6 times in 3 minutes. This mashup looks at O'Reilly's six previous talking points segments to see whether there is any truth to the allegations.
