Hurricane coverage ruins GOP convention. Sarah Palin didn't really boast the Maverick's poll numbers and President Bush takes the helm of a possibility of a major catastrophe. Senator Obama and Senator McCain will weigh in on the Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Hanna.

In another case of bad situation turned worse, the liberal bloggers exposed a family issue in regards to the conservative vice presidential pick Alaskan governor Sarah Palin. Senator John McCain has angered two former front-runners to the VP nod. President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are not attending the GOP convention. And to make it worse, California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger is not attending. Schwarzenegger is well liked among Republicans. Republicans who spent their hard money and those who participated in the "Why I Am A Republican in 2008!" are probably angry about the three major headliners not attending the event.

In the latest chapter of misfortune, it was revealed that Alaskan governor Sarah Palin has an unwed daughter that is pregnant. This also makes a bad situation worse, the Gallup Poll didn't show any bounce to the pick of her. Senator John McCain has been railing against the Obama campaign on experience. Well the liberal bloggers are fighting back with proof. Also there's reports that Palin's former brother in law and mother in law are temped to vote for Obama. Even Cindy McCain's half-sister is planning on voting for Obama.

Talk radio thinks Senator Barack Obama is in a crisis! No really, who you think is in a crisis?

But what they expose may not only jeopardize the momentum Governor Palin has, but also place the Obama campaign at fault. After finding out the story from reporters. Senator Barack Obama has stated clearly:

"Spouses and children are off limits. If anyone in [the Obama] campaign were responsible for this, they will be fired immediately!"

So, I ask all those who are critical of Palin, not to go too hard on her. Hit her over issues, don't take any low road tactics to undermine her service as governor of a state. She is a parent and dealing with the situation as best as she can.

Obama has taken the high road when it came to critics on talk radio, networks such as Fox News and those in the internet. Will the critics back off Obama's wife?

I doubt it.

Obama, the “quasi-frontrunner”, says "Discussion Over Wright's 'Stupid Statements' Have Been a Distraction"

I'm even more excited about this now. The self-described "quasi-frontrunner" is out front and up front about the subject of race. Good:

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told PBS' Gwen Ifill that the discussion over Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s controversial statements have been a distraction. “I would say that it has been a distraction from the core message of our campaign,” Obama said during an interview on "The News Hour with Jim Lehrer."
Obama said the storyline in the past couple days has been “dominated by some stupid statements that were made by Rev. Wright, but also caricatures of Rev. Wright and Trinity United Church of Christ –- which, by the way, is part of a denomination that is overwhelmingly white –- you know, I think that that has distracted us from the possibilities of moving beyond some of these arguments.”
Obama said that his diverse background causes him to want to bring people together through their commonalities.
“I think part of what has always been the essence of my politics, not just this campaign, but my life, is the idea that we’ve got to bring people together. [...]
He said it would be naïve of him to think he could end up being a “quasi-frontrunner” without race being discussed, but he said, ultimately, it is not useful to discuss solely on differences.
On Wright, Obama said he’s a product of the 60s generation, and likened the generational divide to another controversial figure, Geraldine Ferraro. “His experience of race in this country is very different than mine in the same way that Geraldine’s experience being an intelligent, ambitious woman, you know, is very different than a young woman who’s coming up today and potentially has a different set of opportunities.”
Obama said his generation benefits from the past. “And that’s part of what this campaign has been about, is to say, let’s acknowledge a difficult history, but let’s move forward in a practical way to get things done.”

His speech in Philadelphia is tomorrow. This has to be addressed, and Obama isn't afraid to do that. It's 2008. It's about time.

This promises to get uglier than it already has. If you don't believe that, check this comment thread out. I am once again, breaking my own rule by putting up an entire post from another blog (for accuracy).

This morning Obama's former pastor Jeremiah Wright is in the news again. They did a segment on him on Good Morning America. And the main attention is to a video that has surfaced of a sermon Wright gave in January. Fox News got it and here you can see it on Ben Smith's blog at The Politico. It's racially charged and will certainly get a lot of play, though I'm not sure there's much in it that doesn't come out of the sermon tradition of African-American Christianity with a 60s twist. Last week, Obama, who has denounced various of Wright's statements, told a Jewish audience, Wright "is like an old uncle who says things I don't always agree with." Watch it yourself and make your own judgments. For myself, when watching something like this, it is often difficult to distinguish between what I actually find offensive myself and what it is ingrained in me to believe others will find offensive. He's certainly not doing Obama any favors by talking like this about Obama in the midst of this campaign. Particulars aside, the political relevance is to show Wright as angry black man; and to tie him to Obama.
If Obama's the nominee, we will see no end of this kind of stuff. And there's probably some small benefit of getting a preview. But the simple fact is that we wouldn't be seeing this stuff now if it weren't for the fact that this is the kind of campaign Hillary Clinton's campaign has decided to wage -- often directly and at other times indirectly by not reining it in in her supporters when it crops up on its own. Wright is news today because Ferraro's been news yesterday. Are her comments racist? That's a loaded, too copious, word. And there've been cases where the Clinton team has gotten a bum rap on these matters. What I do know, however, is that Clinton's campaign and her surrogates have injected the subject of Obama's race into this campaign too many times now for it to be credible to believe that it is anything but a conscious strategy.
Lincoln's quote of Matthew 18:7 is instructive here: "Woe unto the world because of offenses; for it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh."
It is insufficient to say that Republicans will do this in the fall so there's nothing to be lost in hearing it now from Democrats. Because by doing this now, as a Democratic campaign, they are mainstreaming the message. If Obama is the nominee, when this emerges again, no doubt in a harsher, more rancid incarnation, it will come pre-approved by dint of a Democratic campaign's imprimatur.

This is one time I'm keeping snark out of it, because I'd rather hear what you have to say. Not to mention, it's nothing to laugh about.

No one asked you to chime in on this situation. Your remarks are hurting your candidate. Get out! Geraldine Ferraro, I don’t even remember who you are! You honestly believe your remarks weren’t racist and that the Obama campaign should apologize to you? Your remarks are hurting your candidate and the Democratic party, get out! Bill Clinton, it all started with you…Ain’t no big deal, huh? Another black man won the same state, and his campaigns have always been a joke. Did you really think no one would notice! Mar. 12 - Race was once again injected into the Demcratic campaign, as Hillary Clinton had to explain comments by a prominent supporter.

In a newspaper interview, Clinton supporter Geraldine Ferraro insisted that Obama had gotten so far in the campaign because of his race. Senator Clinton called the comments "regrettable." Ferraro has since resigned from any involvement in the Clinton campaign. Jon Decker reports.

It's a significant moment, because it marks the first time a full-throated special comment will have been directed exclusively at a Democrat. Not just the Democrats, whom Olbermann accused along with the Republicans last May for failing to do anything to get the country out of Iraq, but one particular Democrat — a Democrat whom, incidentally, he did a special comment defending in July after the Defense Dept. sent her a letter accusing her of facilitating anti-U.S. propaganda by demanding to know whether the administration had conceived of an exit strategy from Iraq. He also defended her husband, Bill Clinton, in Sept. 2006 after his controversial interview with FNC's Chris Wallace. I wouldn't expect either of them to get much defending this time around — though something tells me this one will get a lot more than 100,000 views.

UPDATE: Howard Fineman: The Clinton campaign doesn't want to change the tone. That's why they haven't fired Geraldine Ferraro or issued a genuine apology and why they're defending her. Keith: Are we living in South Africa? Fineman: It was a dumb remark. Obama said it's absurd, of course it is, and some say "outrageous". The Hillary camp can't see what they're doing. With Pennsylvania coming up, they're intentionally letting this behavior stand, because of the make up of the state....

It's like they're daring Obama to keep up his complaints. They're trying to throw the accusations back at Obama, which is daring, risky, and cynical, as we go into Pennsylvania.

A senior adviser to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign called on Hillary Clinton to “repudiate” a comment by one of her top fundraisers that Barack Obama would not be a major presidential contender if he were not black.
“I think if Sen. Clinton is serious about putting an end to statements that have racial implications,” Susan Rice, an Obama foreign policy adviser, told MSNBC Tuesday, “…then she ought to repudiate this comment.”

"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position."

More classiness, from one of Clinton's top surrogates, Geraldine Ferraro.
If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.
Ferraro isn't some unknown lower-level or obscure advisor, but one of her top fundraisers, member of Clinton's finance committee, and a former Democratic vice presidential nominee.
