<p>For many migrants trying to reach Europe, their journeys end well before they're able to leave Africa.</p>
<p>They get caught and deported, ending up in transit countries like Mauritania, Mali and Niger.</p>
<p>As Casey Kauffman reports from Mali, many prefer to live the in squalid conditions of the so-called ghettos, than return home in shame.</p>
