In his, On the Characteristics of Animals, Roman historian Aelian (170-235 CE) tells the story of the baby Gilgamesh being rescued by an eagle. Some scholars believe Aelian took the story from Berossus, who wrote a history of Babylonia in Greek entitled Babyloniaca around 281 B.C.E.
