After the debate, when top campaign aides and surrogates came to the Spin Room to tout their candidates' performances, members of the Romney and McCain camps said the things their bosses might have been thinking but did not dare utter onstage.

"Come on, Mitt, tighten up your chin strap," Salter, standing just a few feet away from the Romney team, told reporters. "Of all the ludicrous suggestions - Mitt Romney whining about being attacked, when he has predicated an entire campaign plan on whoever serially looks like the biggest challenger gets, whatever, $20 million dropped on his head and gets his positions distorted. Give me a break. It's nothing more than a guy who dishes it out from 30,000 feet altitude and then gets down in the arena and somebody says, O.K. Mitt, gives him a little pop back, and he starts whining. That's unbecoming."

Personally, I thought McCain's digs during the debate seemed forced and kind of off mark. He had to wait for the laughs too often when he did get them. Can't remember where, but I heard someone the other day say that the basis of this antipathy McCain feels towards Romney came from Romney's flub answer when asked why his 5 sons have not served in the military-

My sons are adults. They've chosen not to serve in the military in active duty and I respect their decision in that regard. ... And one of the ways my sons are showing support for our nation is helping me get elected because they think I'd be a great president.

Yeah, I can see why McCain, with 2 sons in the military, just might not like that pompous response.

I just got home so I missed the debate, but I did appreciate this from MediaBistro:

Today's debate is being moderated by a fairly unknown Carolyn Washburn, who is the first non-TV/radio moderator during this primary debate cycle. And for a non-TV/radio personality suddenly thrust onto CNN, Fox News and MSNBC, Washburn is taking control.
She is handily enforcing rules, cutting candidates off and reprimanding them if they do not stick to time. As her request for a show of hands regarding climate change went unheeded by the candidates, she had this testy exchange with Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney:
Washburn: Is that yes or no for you? Do you believe that global climate change is a serious threat and caused by human...
Thompson: Well, do you want to give me a minute to answer that?
Washburn: No, I don't.
Thompson: Well then I'm not going to answer it.
Washburn: Okay...
Romney: How about 30 seconds?
Washburn: No.

Oooo, snap.

Earlier, during a quick-response section she urged the candidates to be "a little snappier, gentlemen," to some chuckles from the stage.
Washburn seems to be having better success at maintaining control then recent moderators. Washburn will host tomorrow's Democratic debate as well.

Good. Then maybe we'll get some answers instead of speeches.

Really thin skin there Lou.

Dobbs spent three and a half minutes of his CNN program calling out Rutten, labeling him a "hack liberal advocate," a "liberal lily," "vituperative" and "elitist." Dobbs said "Rutten's tortured mind crushed his own sense of reason" when Rutten accused the network of spending too much time on the issue of illegal immigration during last week's CNN/YouTube debate.

Lou Dobbs Gets Daily Radio Show
TVNewser tipsters tell us CNN's Lou Dobbs is entering into a deal with United Stations Radio Networks to host a three-hour daily radio show. The show is expected to launch in March and air from 3pmET to 6pmET. Currently, United Stations airs the Lou Dobbs Financial Report three times a day on the network.
On their website, United Stations boasts "some major announcements are coming soon."

Another Disclosure Debacle for CNN?

During the post-GOP YouTube debate analysis, CNN contributor Bill Bennett mentioned that he was "getting a ton of emails" about an audience member who asked a question. Retired Army Brig. Gen. Keith Kerr asked the candidates about the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy. Bennett said friends and been emailing him that Kerr "is part of Hillary Clinton's gay steering committee. I don't know if that's true or not," Bennett said, "but if he is, that certainly should have been disclosed."
Over the next half hour, CNN producers did some digging. And at the end of the broadcast Anderson Cooper told viewers what they found:
"...Apparently there was a press release from some six months ago. Hillary Clinton office saying that [Kerr] had been named to some steering committee. We don't know if he's still on it. We're trying to find out that information. Certainly had we had that information we would have acknowledged that in using his question, if we had used it at all."
