In a move that has stunned New York, the Bloomberg administration is in discussions to escort the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to ground zero during his visit to New York next week, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said today.

Mr. Kelly said Mr. Ahmadinejad had not indicated why he wants to visit the site of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Several presidential candidates quickly condemned the proposed visit.

So now we have the justification we need to bomb the hell out of Iran because we know exactly when and where Ahmadinejad plans to invade us: Next week, Ground zero. Piece-o'-cake.

Imagine the headlines: "Evil Iranian leader of evil Iran invades Ground Zero! U.S. retaliation is imminent!! Bush and Cheney celebrate with loud, showy fireworks, many speeches, and cheeseburger pizza!!! This requires lots of U.S. bombs and even more U.S. exclamation points!!!!!"

At least it won't be a pre-emptive strike this time.

Today's lesson is all about the man who put an important command center in a very vulnerable location on September 11, 2001. Uh oh! Some firemen and victims weren't too thrilled with "America's mayor".

Rudy Giuliani risked a controversial appearance at Ground Zero in New York yesterday [...] [He] made a brief statement at the sixth anniversary ceremony that critics claimed could give him an unfair boost in his political campaign.

What?! Rudy would never exploit Ground Zero just to gain a few votes! Anyone knows it's bad politics do anything that self-serving.

The former New York Mayor has spoken at the commemoration every year, but his appearance at yesterday’s ceremony provoked a furious reaction from some firemen and victims’ families. They accuse him of trying to exploit the event for political gain in the presidential race, and are angry about their treatment for illnesses that they say resulted from the attacks and prolonged clean-up.

Lesson One: Resentment is not good for one's image.

“They should have every other single presidential candidate then, because this is outrageous,” Sally Regenhard, whose fireman son was killed, complained before the ceremony. “This is going to be seen across the country as a blanket endorsement from us. It is totally inappropriate.”

Lesson Two: Don't make potential voters angry.

Note From Cliff: I think this kind of confirms eveything the firefighters, Ground Zero workers, Rudy's former employees and we at BNF are saying about this coward who dresses himself up as a hero (when not in drag, of course). First I have highlighted a key passage, but I reccommend you continue and read the whole thing. It will explain why BNF has launched this campaign:

I didn't speak to Rudy Giuliani because I never saw him there. Every time he uses the terrible events of September 11th for political gain (never mind the finical gain he has all ready garnered, he insults not only the memory of those lost on that awful day, but the intelligence of those who were actually there for other reasons than a photo op.

I was at the WTC sight for nine months as volunteer for a minimum of 40 hours a week. It was an honor to be allowed to do so, and though I met the thousands of people I met and the hundreds of those I now consider family, I never met then Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

I heard gossip that I had missed seeing Rudy serving turkey on Thanksgiving to the workers with photographers in tow. It must of been a short shift, like half an hour.

The only time I witnessed him with my own eyes was at Ground Zero the Towers of Light ceremony (which as low ranking volunteers were only allowed to attend at the last minute due to the kindness of a Port Authority cop, who was outraged at our exclusion and got us in and the last minute...

Oh wait, I did see him again, at the cutting of the last beam ceremony that took place the night before the sight prematurely closed. Again we were brought in at the last minute, this time due to the kindness of an FDNY Battalion Chief. After all Rudy was there (not in the pit mind you) and there was his safety to think about. Funny that, cause there seemed to be no great concern about the safety of the people, many who are now getting sick who were down there day after day (unlike Rudy)

Oh, Im sorry. We were supplied dust masks, and hard hats the first day in, so if there was a saw dust attack we would be just fine.

I'll tell you who I did see, fellow New Yorkers side by side, of all political persuasion, race, religion, creed, age, gender, and sexual orientation, turning up day after day, bound together by the tragic events of 9/11. Some came to find their loved ones remains, and if they were one of the few who did find a son, a brother, a father, a daughter, a coworker and stayed on in hope to give some other grieving relative or friend a bit of comfort, a body to bury. Some came to find a bit redemption in a world that suddenly seemed hopeless ugly and mean.

While that is more time than he has spent with his kids during their entire lives it doesn't quite match the rhetoric about spending as much time there as the workers and firemen did.

This man is such a pathetic liar. Go find that dust-covered suit and put it back on Rudy. Go downtown. Maybe you can sqeeze another hour of fawning media coverage in. Oh, and while you're at it, why don't you announce another divorce to said media?

Former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Christine Todd Whitman went before a House subcommittee Monday to testify about the EPA's reports on the air quality of Lower Manhattan in the aftermath of 9/11, reports which have come under extreme criticism for apparent contradictions and questionable revisions by the White House. Whitman seemed to rest contentedly however on the reassurances she pushed at the time, despite the number of workers and residents that have grown sick and dying in the ensuing years.
