Sam discusses The Westboro Baptist Church headed by Fred Phelps www.godhatesfags.com (the site works occasionally) and their plans to picket Heath Ledger's funeral in Australia because he was a "fag enabler." Sam, himself, is on the hate/hit list from these hate mongers and talks about how to deal with it and what it all means.

Fred Phelps is the "pastor" of the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), an independent Baptist church in Topeka, Kansas. Phelps is also a disbarred lawyer and founder of the Phelps Chartered law firm. WBC is listed as a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center. He is known for preaching with slogans and banners denoting phrases such as "Thank God for 9/11", "God hates fags," "AIDS cures fags," and "Fags die, God laughs (or mocks)," and claims that God will punish homosexuals as well as people such as Bill O'Reilly, Coretta Scott King, Ronald Reagan, and Howard Dean, whom his church considers "fag-enablers". His church says he is a "Five-Point Calvinist". He has also thanked God for the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.

Phelps and his followers frequently picket various events, especially military funerals, gay pride gatherings, and high-profile political gatherings, arguing it is their sacred duty to warn others of God's anger. When criticized, Phelps' followers say they are protected in doing so by the First Amendment. In May 2006 President Bush signed the Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act in response to Phelps' protests at military funerals. In April 2007, Kansas governor Kathleen Sebelius signed into law a bill banning the protest of funerals.

Phelps says that he is a preacher who believes that homosexuality and its acceptance have doomed most of the world to eternal damnation. The church at Westboro which he leads has 71 confirmed members, 60 of whom are related to Phelps through blood or marriage or both.

The group is built around a core of anti-homosexual theology, with many of their activities stemming from the slogan "God hates fags," which is also the name of the group's main website. Gay rights activists, as well as Christians of virtually every denomination, have denounced him as a producer of anti-gay propaganda and violence-inspiring hate speech.

Joe Scarborough Gets It Right On "Sick" John Gibson

I just came across this second video on scumbag John Gibson's tragically un-funny comedy about Heath Ledger's death.

When credit is due, it should be given. Joe Scarborough, who is a self-described conservative, uses much the same language I did about Gibson. He calls him "sick," (as do Willie Geist and Mika Brzezinski) among other things--and completely sums up my feelings about this "man."

Good for Scarborough. This is as good as I've ever seen him.

Sick Right Wingers Hate Heath Ledger

You may have already heard about the John Gibson comments. I used to go on his show, and I wish I could say it surprised me at all. The fact that he would mock someone's death, well, any respectable network would chastise him, disavow his comments and at the very least suspend him.

The key word in there of course was "respectable."

Additionally, the usual lunatics who thought AIDS was "God's punishment" to gays are also showing their "compassionate conservatism" by blaming his death on his playing a gay man in Brokeback Mountain. Which is interesting, because if God did punish people in such a Fire and Brimstone manner, there would be Republicans dropping dead in bathroom stalls across the land.

What can you say but conservatives are simply sick. It is obvious in their hatred of poor children who don't have healthcare, their love for profiteers and their frankly unhealthy obsession with homosexuality.

We would need enough psychiatrists to fill the state of Idaho to ever have a shot at making these people sane...

FOX’s John Gibson Sort of/Not Really Apologizes for Mocking and Lying About Heath Ledger’s Death

Does anyone doubt that FOX’s O’Reilly wannabe John Gibson would have mocked Heath Ledger’s death if Ledger hadn’t been in a movie that dared to say that gay people are actually people? Didn’t think so.

In case you missed it, upon hearing of Ledger’s overdose, Gibson decided to single himself out as the World’s Biggest Asshole (and Worst Person in the World) on his January 22 radio show by making fun of Ledger’s death. The entire audio is attached, but here are some excerpts:

JAKE GYLLENHAAL [audio clip from ‘Brokeback Mountain’]: I wish I knew how to quit you.

GIBSON: Well, he found out how to quit you. -snip-

GIBSON: Listen, November '07, he was talking about -- and this is a 28-year-old guy -- saying, "Well, you know, it's a whole -- give me a whole different thought about death." What? You're 28 years old, and you're thinking about death? Give me a break.

CHRISTINE: Maybe he was a deep thinker.

GIBSON: Maybe he was a weirdo.

ANGRY RICH: I'm thinking about it right now.

GIBSON: OK, anyway, Heath Ledger died, and I'm sure people will be upset. All you Brokeback Mountain fans, you want to give Christine a call, she'll be happy to talk to you.

HEATH LEDGER [audio clip]: We're dead.

GIBSON: "We're dead." -snip-

GIBSON: Maybe he had a serious position in the market.

TOM SULLIVAN: And possibly today, he looked at the window and said…

GIBSON: “Oh my God.”

SULLIVAN: His name’s not Keith Bledger, right?

GIBSON: He was depressed about yesterday’s downturn in the world stock markets. -snip-

GIBSON: Apparently Heath Ledger was suicidal and his friends saw it coming. I think he watched the Clinton-Obama debate last night. I think he was an Edwards guy, cause he saw his Edwards guy was just completely irrelevant.

There’s more of that conservative/Ann Coulter humor. And thinking about death as a 28-year-old makes you a “weirdo”? Since when? Also, notice how Gibson used Ledger’s death to imitate his hero, O’Reilly, and take an irrational swipe at John Edwards? I forgot to mention that Gibson went on to repeatedly claim that illegal drugs were involved in Ledger’s death, despite the fact that no one (including the police) had found any illegal drugs in Ledger’s apartment and no autopsy had been performed. But when you’re on FOX, the truth is an inconvenience if it gets in the way of smearing someone who had the audacity to play a gay character in a movie.

On Gibson’s show the following day, he refused to apologize.
