Don Carcieri signed an executive order to enforce immigration laws in the state of Rhode Island, since he believes that the immigrant population causes a strain on the economy of the state. Interestingly enough, the state is enduring economic hardship, which is unlikely to have been triggered by these immigrants.</p><p>Essentially, the mandate gives power to police enforcement to enforce immigration laws and would punish businesses severely if they fail to verify that each of its workers has permission to work in the United States.</p><p>A question for our viewers and fellow bloggers: Do you sense that this growing trend of states passing legislation is significant?
