Amy Goodman has become the first journalist to receive the Right Livelihood Award, established "to honor those offering practical and exemplary answers to the most urgent challenges facing us today." The annual prize, also known as the Alternative Nobel and widely recognized as the worlds premier award for personal courage and social transformation, will be awarded in the Swedish parliament in December.

Last weekend's war protests drew 100,000 people but they were nearly ignored by the mainstream media. Since the media are owned by some of the companies who actually benefit from perpetual war, it is no surprise that they would want people to believe there is no substantial opposition to the war. Public opposition to the war will spread when the public knows more about it.

Robert Kennedy Jr. said that media consolidation and campaign finance reform are two of the biggest issues we face today. Seek out independent media and vote for candidates who demonstrate independence from the special interests.

On the third day of the Democratic National Convention, I had the interview that none of the other major media was capturing. I met up with Ralph Nader moments before his big speech.

He informed me that the Democratic Party and the Republicans are selling out America. I like sales, but would rather pay full price for quality goods. And corporations are really buying government.

I also discovered that alternative media (like me) plays a key role in helping any presidential nominee. Especially the independent guys.

I guess I should really think about who I vote for.

Note to self: Presidential candidates and politicians needs Alternative Media too.

JOHN MCCAIN: supply. And although that oil from Azerbaijan through Georgia into Turkey is not directly to the United States of America, we know it's th world's oil supply. And the Russians have used that as a weapon. And the weapon has become more formidable as the price of oil has gone up. And so it's vital that we embark upon what I call the Lexington Project to become energy independent. And I'd be glad to demagogue it with the rest. But the point is, that we must do it. And for us to sit idly by, and go on vacation when people are sitting $3.75 a gallon for gas, is the reason Congress has a 9-[audience laughs] sorry- $5 a gallon in Aspen. See, now that's the classic liberal democratic approach: soak the rich."

QUESTIONER: Hey I'm Gil Theland, retired editor and publisher of the Tampa Tribune. Racism and Sexism, both subtle and not subtle were unsettling factors in the Democrats nominating process, what will you do to prevent this disrespect from happening in the general election race.

JOHN MCCAIN: Well, first off could I say I believe the overwhelming majority of American's have made a judgment and will continue to make judgments based solely on what they feel are the qualifications of the candidate. And I think it's frankly something that maybe we should look at glass full or maybe 9/10 about the fact that an African American and a woman both competed for the highest office in this country. I think it's something that we should be really proud of. Now there were elements that entered the race, there's elements in America on extremes, as we all know, that sometimes harm the image. But from literally thousands and thousands of hours of having contact with average American citizens I'm proud of the way that they judge us. I'm proud of the fact that Hillary Clinton, Senator Clinton inspired a generation of young women. As a father of three daughters, I congratulate her. And I congratulate her for her tenaciousness too; she worked very, very hard. And Senator Obama, I feel the same way, he inspired people in America in a very, very impressive way. Yea there were comments made from time to time, but I got the impression when those comments, or those things, came up that the voters resounded rejected that kind of thing, they don't want that in the United States of America. And when I see the growing presence and influence of people from all walks of life in America I'm more proud of America. But in direct to answer your question I will do everything I can to keep anything that may be that kind of ugliness out of this political campaign. And the best way you do that I think is to show always respect for your opponent. No matter who that opponent is, and I have a record of that in the campaigns that I've engaged in in my political life. Thank you.

Obama leads the polls with 70% in the Historic Dixville Notch, New Hampshire Mid-Night Vote. No surprise here with the Obama factor leading in New Hampshire with 70% of the early polls reporting. John Edward follows coming in Second place with 20% of the Vote and Richardson with 10% of the Vote in a Standing Third Place from this Historic Polling Tally that is First in New Hampshire to report official primary polls with the polls closed in Dixville Notch and the Votes officially reported. Senator John McCain was in Gladbrook, Ia. on Sunday evening campaigning at a house party. He spoke on the lawn at the home of Lynn and Claire Handorf and then took questions from the audience and press. Regarding last week's Polk County ruling that allowed at least one gay couple to marry in Des Moines, Senator McCain said, "Smart people tell me that that decision will be reversed by a higher court." He says he would support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, "if there was a superior federal court that said that the states don't have the right to regulate the status of marriage...but I certainly don't [support an amendment] when the states are deciding."

The Arizona presidential candidate was in Iowa for a two-day campaign tour.
