#1: Christianists are talking about supporting a third party such as the Constitutional Party nominee if Rudy wins the GOP nomination.

In fact, an influential group including Mullah Dobson, Tony Perkins and Richard Viguerie, recently met to discuss strategy if the pro-choice Pinochet becomes the GOP nominee.

Go Rudy go! It seems you may not be the "most electable" if a third to half of your base chooses to vote for someone else or not show up.

Dobson Won't Back Thompson
According to a private e-mail obtained by the AP, influential evangelical leader James Dobson told friends he will not be backing Fred Thompson's candidacy for president -- another setback for Thompson, who is vying for the conservative mantle. Earlier, Dobson said he would not vote for John McCain or Rudy Giuliani.

Said Dobson: "Isn't Thompson the candidate who is opposed to a Constitutional amendment to protect marriage, believes there should be 50 different definitions of marriage in the U.S., favors McCain-Feingold, won't talk at all about what he believes, and can't speak his way out of a paper bag on the campaign trail?" Dobson wrote. "He has no passion, no zeal and no apparent 'want to.' And yet he is apparently the Great Hope that burns in the breasts of many conservative Christians? Well, not for me, my brothers. Not for me!"

Not only does Dobson refuse to back Thompson, he throws a few taunts in for good measure.

As a side note, I don't know if Satan has taken over my RSS or what, but there are alot of stories out this morning with decidedly ant-GOP/"The GOP is falling apart" meme's going on. Nice.

Focus On Family Lays Off 30
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Focus on the Family is laying off 30 employees and reassigning 15 others, due in part to a drop in projected revenue and to growth in technology.
Most of the layoffs are in the department that answers mail and telephone requests, while the reassignments were prompted by growth in e-mail and Internet-based communications, said Gary Schneeberger, vice president of communications for the conservative Christian ministry.

Dobson has said on several of his radio shows that donations have fallen.
Many churches and parachurch organizations are seeing decreases in income, especially amid economic woes and the housing downturn, according to Terry Gorka, head administrator at The Barna Group, a California-based research organization that tracks Christian ministries.

Out of all the crap going on in the world, thank g-d there is one silver lining.
