Thank goodness for Keith Olbermann, the detector of hypocrisy, he is a warrior for an honest democracy. Below are the names of the Democrats who voted with all the Republicans to condemn the moveon.org ad. Senate Condemns MoveOn Ad! No Republican voted AGAINST condemning the MoveOn ad. All 25 votes against the amendment were Democrats. Tell House Members to Stand Firm Behind the RESTORE Act! The FISA bill passed by the Senate is a disgrace. By legalizing warrantless spying on Americans and granting retroactive amnesty to lawbreaking telecoms, the Senate seeks to ensure that the Bush administration's illegal spying programs are never investigated or subjected to the rule of law. The Senate bill is a profound betrayal of the votes of millions of Americans who voted in 2006 to put Democrats in control of Congress in order to increase, not eliminate, checks and oversight on this administration, and to restore the rule of law to our country. The House's RESTORE Act is an infinitely superior bill. It provides real safeguards on the President's spying powers while providing him with the surveillance powers he needs to protect the country. It enables the issue of the legality of the President's spying programs to be decided where it belongs -- in a court of law. And it preserves the crucial balance that has existed for decades between enabiling necessary surveillance on Americans and ensuring that our political leaders do not abuse that power. In the wake of the discovery of the Watergate crimes and decades of surveillance abuses, the Congress of the mid-1970s acted on a bipartisan basis to put into place safeguards to ensure that even our highest political officials must adhere to the law and can only exercise eavesdropping powers with real safeguards. The RESTORE Act continues that tradition, while the Senate bill eviscerates it. We urge Democratic House members to stand firm behind the bill they passed and not capitulate once again to the bullying, manipulative demands of the Bush administration for ever-greater unchecked power, as embodied by the warrantless eavesdropping and telecom immunity provisions of the Senate bill. Keith gets an anniversary gift:

NBC will broadcast an anniversary special commemorating five years of Countdown with Keith Olbermann, the top-rated program on sister channel MSNBC.
NBC will air the Countdown special March 30 at 7 p.m.

The network hopes to expand the program’s audience by giving broadcast viewers a look at the show.

He's already boosted MSNBC's profile.

"When we started this five years ago, I told a reporter that our charge was to stay out of the way of the news: 'News is the news. We will not be screwing around with it,'" Olbermann said in announcing the anniversary special. "We held true to that promise -- we just screwed around with everything about its presentation and interpretation. And I'm delighted by the results and honored by the incredible loyalty of those viewers who join me each night."

And as a special treat, the very next day he'll take us on a walk down Memory Lane:

It's a significant moment, because it marks the first time a full-throated special comment will have been directed exclusively at a Democrat. Not just the Democrats, whom Olbermann accused along with the Republicans last May for failing to do anything to get the country out of Iraq, but one particular Democrat — a Democrat whom, incidentally, he did a special comment defending in July after the Defense Dept. sent her a letter accusing her of facilitating anti-U.S. propaganda by demanding to know whether the administration had conceived of an exit strategy from Iraq. He also defended her husband, Bill Clinton, in Sept. 2006 after his controversial interview with FNC's Chris Wallace. I wouldn't expect either of them to get much defending this time around — though something tells me this one will get a lot more than 100,000 views.

When the folks at MSNBC saw the improvised press event that started outside the FOX building yesterday when a group of homeless vets attempted to deliver our 17,000-signature petition to Bill O’Reilly, they sent over a camera crew and reporter to see what all the fuss was about. Little did we know that our story would be #3 on last night’s Countdown! Keith Olbermann does a great job of summarizing the (de)evolution of BOR’s lies and his increasingly irrational and erroneous flails as BOR tries in vain to blame everyone but himself for all the dumb things he’s been telling his audience about homeless veterans.

Just apologize, BOR. Apologize to the vets, John Edwards, and your viewers. Lying more and calling homeless vets mentally ill addicts isn’t going to make this go away. It’ll just make it worse for you and the homeless vets you continue to slander.

We got substance tonight. How novel. Good for us Dems.

Keith is quoting my posts. Okay, he's quoting from the debates, but isn't that what I posted? I knew it.

Richard Wolffe and Eugene Robinson:

Wolffe: The debate was equally good in person. Good substance. Good-natured. Obama did well on Iraq.

Did Hillary miss her chance to defend herself on Iraq?

W: Yes. But Obama didn't take it a step further, didn't mention she didn't read the NIE on Iraq. He got the better of the debate for a Hollywood audience.

Keith: Obama showed humor, a difference from other debates. Has he done that enough?

W: No, but it's not over. Both did well, wonky. Well-informed, engaging, tapping into their "inner policy wonk". O has developed well over these debates.

Eugene: Much better by Obama. One electric moment: At the beginning, the visual, a woman, a man of color. One will win..that remark. That's an important moment. Then we got into policy. When they showed Jason Alexander, I thought, where was George Constanza when you need him? Didn't contrast each other enough.

Keith: 5 words: That looked like a ticket.

E: Genuine respect. Agreed on a lot. A "careful" debate, they chose not to fight much.

Keith: They both pushed "democratic unity."
