He explains why our process for choosing a president has become more flawed, so the most qualified people for the job often stay out of the race. Newt Gingrich and Michael Bloomberg top his list of qualified leaders who would make excellent presidents, even Bill Frist. Al Gore, however, does not make the list.

Yes, it's time to steal a few more jokes from my father-in-law. For those of you who might be new here, he used to write for Alan King, Milton Berle and Jonathan Winters, just to name a few. And all those Dean Martin Roasts, too: Don Rickles, Red Buttons, Phyllis Diller, Sammy Davis, Jr., etc.

I bet he could even make the recession sound funny--but only to President (sic) Bush.

A tiny respite from all the frustrating events of the day:

There's talk that New York Mayor BLOOMBERG might run as an Independent candidate. Just what America needs, a president who can put the national debt on his Visa Card.
For weeks PRESIDENT BUSH has been declaring, "There's no recession. It's just an ugly rumor started by a few million disgruntled people sleeping in doorways."

The recession may be worse than we thought. On PRESIDENT BUSH'S desk there's a sign that says, "The HALF-a-buck stops here."

As an inspiration to the country, the White House is cutting back on perks. There's talk BUSH has given up "Air Force One" and from now on he'll travel on "Greyhound One."
The automobile companies are really being hit. So few cars are being sold, pedestrians are now giving each other the finger.
If the economy really gets bad expect to see even famous people standing on street corners holding up signs:
DON RICKLES - "I'll be RUDE for food"
PARIS HILTON - "I'll be LEWD for food"
BRITNEY SPEARS - "I'll be LEWD and NUDE for food"
CHER - "I'll be TATTOOED for food"
MICHAEL RICHARDS - "I'll be BOOED for food"

Michael Bloomberg has repeatedly said he is not running. But his aides have been conducting extensive research in what looks to be a plan to campaign as an independent.

Somebody's being a little less than honest when he tells us he is not running!!! for president:

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has launched a research effort to assess his chances in a potential bid for the presidency, a source close to the mayor told CNN.
The source said data is being gathered but that the mayor — who has been widely speculated as being interested in running for the White House as an independent — has not yet begun analyzing that data, the source said.
The source, who is intimately familiar with the mayor's deliberations, said he has set early March as a timetable for making a decision.

He's already being dishonest about running/not running. I wonder what he'll fib about later? Oh, you don't consider this a fib?

"No, I will not run for president, but I will speak out to try to get people to really focus on the issues and to get rid of partisanship and special interests."

Me neither. Not a fib. He's just being coy. His definitive NO I WILL NOT RUN was his way of kidding. What a laugh riot. I wonder if it's the same kind of kidding that Bush does when he tells us he has no plans to invade Iran.

Yeah, that's probably it, because politicians never lie.

On ABC's "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve", Republican turned Independent Mayor Michael Bloomberg told Seacrest in no uncertain terms that he will not make a bid for the Oval Office.
Seacrest, who more often finds himself in a tete-a-tete with Simon Cowell rather than the leader of Gotham, began the inquiry by commenting to Bloomberg's daughters, "I want your dad to answer this honestly. Will you run for president?"
Without hesitation, Bloomberg responded, "No, I will not run for president, but I will speak out to try to get people to really focus on the issues and to get rid of partisanship and special interests."

He could still change his mind. And who knows? Maybe he'd announce to Rachael Ray.

Like a filthy dog that urinates on the sidewalks, Bloomberg has defecated on the very rights that make America not only unique but great.
When a guy who owns a media empire tries to outlaw independant media, even the stupidest Americans can see the conflict of interest. Bloomie thinks this is the way government should be run. A government comprised of the big guys, for the big guys. The rest of us are just fodder, used and abused, seen only as fuel for the burning ambition every Oligarch pursues. Bloomie is just another rich tyrant looking to do it his way. If you're a Bloomie pal or a developer, that's good but for the rest of us, the deal stinks.
Look at Bloomies stadium deal that was tantamount to public theft that he tried to shove down out throats in a back room deal after he engineered a scheme to sidestep a public referendum. He wanted the city to buy the Jets a 800 million dollar stadium in one of the most congested parts of town which is also a conduit for much of traffic coming in and out of Manhattan. This guy is as corrupt as they come. The truth on Bloomie is coming out more and more each day.
He is unfit for public service. He should be in a cage or prison cell. He destroys New York with what can only be described as demented indifference.
Don't let Bloomie buy the Governorship. He is a sick guy with a infested brain. Stop this foul contagion from getting out.

Why is it that Giuliani gets a pass from the press when it comes to foriegn affairs experience. He was only a mayor. It is coming out that he made many mistakes the weeks following 9/11. It was Mayor Bloomberg who did all of the rebuilding work in NY. Obama is called on the carpet for a lack of experience. If you read both of their policy papers dealing with foriegn affairs you would see Obama is knowledgeable, intelligent and can be a real uniter - none of those words fit Giuliani.

Tom Harkin gives him a nice smackdown today that is thoroughly justified. Look, I don't care that he has occupied space, the center-left, that no longer exists in the Republican Party.

It is very simple. He switched to the GOP before his run for Mayor of New York from being a Democratic stalwart simply because he couldn't win in a Democratic primary, but could buy the race once he got the GOP nomination--a much easier feat. Of course, he still gave somewhere around $7 million to Bush's Republicans during 2004. In other words, Bloomberg was all too happy to screw us all and support Bush, a man with whom he ostensibly agreed with about 5% of the time, when it was in his political interest to do so.

Now he realizes he can't win in a GOP primary for President. So once again, let the party-switching begin. And the record-breaking spending, which bought him his career in New York. He spent what, $100 million in New York? So what might he spend nationally, $700 million?

Just another obnoxious, self-interested billionaire. Can't he find a stupid reality show and leave us alone? (h/t my pal Ali Savino)
