Not her," Obama told the magazine.<br /></blockquote><p>Rightly so. Really, has anyone ever seen a Republican candidate’s wife get attacked the way the Republicans and the media go after the wives of Democrats? And don’t give me the line that the “discussion” about Michelle Obama’s patriotism is actually a real issue, because it isn’t unless you believe the paranoid Republican myth that a first lady who isn’t appropriately patriotic would encourage the destruction of her own country. <p>The right-wing "outrage" and "discussion" about Michelle Obama's patriotism would be utterly laughable if so many people, including the urban-mythical "liberal" media, weren't actually treating it like it was an important topic of discussion. On FOX and in some of the comments to our newest blockbuster video, <a href="http://foxattacks.com/michelle" title="FA MO">FOX ATTACKS! Michelle Obama</a> (<em>216,000 views and <a href="http://foxattacks.com/michelle" title="petition">32,750 petition signatures</a> in less than 24 hours!</em>), the right sees themselves as CSI agents who have unraveled the Mystery of the Unpatriotic Candidate's Wife. Because of two misinterpreted and overanalyzed statements, Michelle Obama has been "exposed," her "true identity" revealed! She isn't proud of America! She seems "bitter"! She's actually a Marxist black supremacist sleeper agent bent on destroying and enslaving white America! She must be stopped!<br /><br />Seriously. This is what many Republicans seem to believe. And they're very proud of themselves for figuring it out.<br /><br />If there were a movie about a fiendish terrorist plot to destroy America through an overly critical Black Panther disguised as a presidential candidate's wife, it would tank even if it was a Bourne sequel. <br /><br />"Good work, Agent Hannity! You've caught that Marxist Black Panther terrorist first lady before she had a chance to destroy America with her negative outlook on things! We'll make sure she's imprisoned indefinitely without charge and tortured as a monument to how proud you are of your country."<br /><br />It's quite possibly the stupidest idea I've ever heard, yet it's one of the main Republican strategies for winning the presidency. And the nightmare scenario of Michelle Obama as first lady is apparently keeping Republicans up at night. Maybe the right thinks it's so "strong on terror" because they are able to conduct their daily lives while simultaneously being terrified of gays, Mexicans, liberals, terrorists, age-appropriate sex education, rappers, Muslims, the sanctity of their marriages, secularism, video games, revealing clothing, naked statues, TV shows, Janet Jackson's boob, sexy advertising, driving in smaller cars, Iran, France, San Francisco, brown people, black people, and black presidential candidates and their wives. With a list like that, you can see why they're so scared — they're waging multiple World Wars of terror in their heads every day. </p>

<p>You're not going to believe what FOX is up to now—we could hardly believe it ourselves. Not only are they smearing Michelle Obama with racist stereotypes, but then they offer a feeble apology that they believe gives them the right to slander her again. That's what happened when FOX called Michelle and Barack Obama's fist bump a "<a href="../../blog/41606-did-e-d-hill-really-lose-her-show-over-terrorist-fist-jab">terrorist fist jab</a>," apologized, and then less than a week later referred to Michelle <span>Obama</span> as Barack's "<a href="../../blog/41674-fox-s-obama-s-baby-mama-drama">Baby Mama</a>."<br /> <br />FOX's <a href="http://foxattacks.com/">long history of racism</a> is nothing new, but it has been particularly egregious when it comes to <span>their coverage of the Obamas</span>. Racism and fearmongering have no place in our country or its politics, despite what FOX would have you believe. That's why we put together this video, <em>FOX Attacks Michelle Obama</em>.<br /><br />We cannot allow FOX's heinous smears and scare tactics to continue. <a href="http://foxattacks.com/michelle">Sign our petition</a> and stop<span> </span>FOX from injecting<span> racism, prejudice, and fear into our political dialogue. Then, send</span> it to all your friends and family members for them to sign as well. <p><p><u><strong>VICTORY! </strong></u><br /><br />First, my <a href="../../blog/42686-video-proves-fox-erased-mccain-saying-he-really-didn-t-love-america" title="fox mccain">new video</a> showing how FOX doctored their website to hide John McCain saying he “didn’t really love America” until he was a POW hits #1 on Digg. And now, due to the enormous attention the video has been getting, <em>FOX has undoctored their site so it now shows the correct <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,337834,00.html#" title="mccain transcript">transcript</a> and video!</em> Thanks so much to all of you who watched the video, sent it to friends, contacted FOX, and voted it up on Digg and Reddit. Because of you, now everyone can go to FoxNews.com and see what McCain really said.<br /><br />In some of the comments, some people have said that it was “unfair” to take McCain “out of context” and that by trying to make McCain look bad by using a soundbite of him, I was being just as bad as FOX. But this seems like a case of projection — nowhere in the video or the blog did I criticize McCain for saying he “really didn’t love America” until he was a POW, and the video includes the full "context" of the comment he made. </p><p>Personally, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with what he said, exactly as I think there is nothing wrong with what Michelle Obama said when she said "for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback." </p><p>This video is about proving once again that FOX is the Republican propaganda channel, and they’re willing to lie about and doctor their own material if it helps Republicans. If someone thinks that this video is trying to make McCain look bad, it’s only because they themselves think that McCain looks bad in the video. Maybe that’s because they’ve been so convinced by the Republicans and the corporate media that Michelle Obama’s statement is so unforgivable that they don’t know how to respond to seeing McCain saying virtually the same thing. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkPUBn3vyoM" title="abrams mccain">Repeatedly</a>. The video says nothing bad about McCain — it just shows that he has said something similar to what Michelle Obama said, and FOX tried to cover it up. If you want to absolve McCain for this statement, you should do the same for Michelle Obama — otherwise you’re a hypocrite. <br /><br />And in case anyone thinks that I faked this story, all I have to say is TGFSC (Thank God For Screen Captures). </p></p>

<p>On March 13, 2008, FOX’s Sean Hannity interviewed John McCain for the full hour. The interview started with questions about McCain’s time as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. At one point, this was said:<br /><blockquote>HANNITY: You spent two years of this five-and-a-half-year period in solitary confinement. What does that do to a person, to spend that much time in solitary confinement?<br /><br />MCCAIN: I think it makes you a better person. Obviously, it makes you love America. <strong>I really didn't love America until I was deprived of her company.</strong><br /></blockquote>Get that? McCain “really didn’t love America” until he was a POW. <br /><br />Now think about how the right (including FOX and even <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=erwQuaThdCw" title="cindy mccain attacks">Cindy McCain</a>) have attacked Michelle Obama for saying that “for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback,” <a href="http://blogs.reuters.com/trail08/2008/06/09/laura-bush-defends-michelle-obama/" title="l bush obama">a quote that even Laura Bush has defended</a>. Now listen to what McCain said. Let that sink in for a bit. Feels good, doesn’t it?<br /><br />But there’s more.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.jedreport.com/2008/06/damaging-mccain.html" title="jedreport">Jedreport.com</a> discovered that the <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,337834,00.html" title="mccain transcript">transcript</a> of the McCain/Hannity interview on FoxNews.com had no mention of McCain saying he “really didn’t love America” until he was a POW. I checked and sure enough, it wasn’t there. <p><p>Just days after FOX smeared Barack Obama by referring to the dap between him and his wife as a "<a href="../../blog/41606-did-e-d-hill-really-lose-her-show-over-terrorist-fist-jab">terrorist fist jab</a>," FOX offensively called Michelle Obama "Obama's Baby Mama." Why FOX couldn't simply refer to Michelle Obama as Barack's wife is beyond me? Clearly, FOX will be slandering the Obamas every chance they get over the next five months, even when they are touting the fact that the right isn't attacking them! </p><p>That's right, FOX had the nerve to run the words "Obama Baby Mama" as FOX contributor Michelle Malkin was going on and on about how conservatives aren't taking "cheap shots" at the Obamas:</p><blockquote><p>Where backlash would come is if people make gratuitous and cheap shots at [Michelle Obama] that have nothing to do with the substance of what she's saying. And so far Republicans and conservatives who have opposed Michelle Obama's statements have not made those cheap shots. </p></blockquote><p>Well, I've got your backlash right here, Ms. Malkin. How dare you insidiously suggest that FOX and its right-wing base haven't been smearing the Obamas for the last year! <p><p>As <a href="http://mediamatters.org/items/200806060007?f=h_clips">Media Matters noted</a>, FOX's E.D. Hill teased last Friday's edition of <em>America's Pulse</em> by saying: "A fist bump? A pound? A terrorist fist jab? The gesture everyone seems to interpret differently."</p><p>Hill was referring to <a href="http://www.slate.com/blogs/blogs/trailhead/archive/2008/06/04/pounds.aspx">the fist pound</a> (or dap) that Obama exchanged with wife Michelle last Tuesday night upon clinching the Democratic nomination. She then brings in a "body language expert" to further explain Obama's hand gesture (for those of us who are so out of touch that we don't understand what a fist bump means). NEVER again does Hill bring up the "terrorist" allusion during the segment, which suggests that FOX was merely comparing Obama to a terrorist in an utterly disgraceful ploy to boost ratings and spread slander. </p><p>Now that Obama has fist-bumped his way into the national spotlight, we can clearly expect FOX to continue smearing him throughout this election and beyond. Rest assured, however, that we will continue to expose their lies with our <a href="http://foxattacks.com/">FOX Attacks</a> series. </p></p>

<p><p>I have to admit, I never thought I’d see the day that Bill O’Reilly apologized for something. But after his <a href="http://mediamatters.org/items/200802200001?f=h_top" title="m obama lynching">comment</a> about not wanting to take part in a Michelle Obama “lynching party” UNLESS she really deserved it, BOR probably looked around and realized he had taken a turn into Imus Country and better hang a U-turn ASAP. So BOR, for the first time in memory, acted responsibly and promptly (sort of) apologized. On the Feb. 21 O’Reilly Factor:</p><blockquote>As you may know, I believe Mrs. Obama was only referring to politics when she said that for the first time in her adult life, she is proud of her country. Now, if you look at both of the speeches that she made -- and I have -- the context is purely political. So I defended Mrs. Obama on both radio and TV.<br /><br />While talking to a radio caller, I said there should be no lynching in the case -- that comment off Clarence Thomas saying he was the victim of a high-tech lynching. He said that on 60 Minutes, you may remember. <strong>I'm sorry if my statement offended anybody. That, of course, was not the intention. Context is everything.</strong><br /></blockquote><p>As is often the case with politicians and the media, <a href="../blog/26375-fox-s-john-gibson-sort-of-not-really-apologizes-for-mocking-and-lying-about-heath-ledger-s-death" title="gibson ledger">this isn’t a real apology</a> — saying “I’m sorry if my statement offended anybody” is as much of an apology as saying “I’m sorry you feel that way” — but this is by far the closest BOR has actually come to one. <br /><br />Here’s the thing. Very few people consider themselves to be racist, and even fewer would overtly display their racism even if they identified themselves as being a racist. But speaking from experience, I can say that most of the times I’ve experienced racism, it was from people who didn’t think what they were saying was racist. And in many cases, it was from people who thought they were being nice.</p></p>
