The Al Franken campaign today produced ballots challenged by the Norm Coleman for Senate and pointed out an interesting pattern. As you can see in the video there is a clear vote for Al Franken, but it the Coleman campaign appears to contend the vote should have been for Norm Coleman because the voter also voted John McCain for President.

There are also two challenged ballots that have votes for John McCain and no vote for US Senate. The Coleman campaign challenged those for "voter intent" as well, indicating they think the vote should have counted for Norm Coleman.

All of these challenged ballots came from Fillmore County.

The Minnesota Senate race of 2008 is historic. After a long and sometimes brutal campaign between Norm Coleman and Al Franken, it has become the closest race in Minnesota history. The State Canvassing Board met on November 18, mandating a hand recount of all ballots. Lawyers and volunteers from both campaigns will be closely monitoring the more than 100 recount sites throughout the state.

The UpTake has launched a citizen journalism-driven effort to videotape the ballot recount at every location possible. Citizens of Minnesota and the nation can ensure that the democratic process is transparent, documented, and protected. Record the Recount aims to place a camera-equipped volunteer at each recount site and upload the video to RecordTheRecount.com within 24 hours. A number of live mobile cameras will also be stationed in the most closely contested precincts so citizens can participate in real-time on TheUpTake.org

All you need to participate is a digital video camera, and preferably a tripod. Email info@theuptake.org if you’re interested in volunteering - we need YOU!

From the Marxist tenured faculty member running for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota, achieving the impossible, the only man in America who could be to the left of Al Franken, and a vivid reminder of how much our University campuses are filled with people who hate the very country that provides them their salary, that provides them their tenure, and provides them their freedom.

Team Franken attorney David Lillehaug asked the Hennepin County Canvassing Board to review rejected absentee ballots. "We have information that a significant number of persongs who voted by absentee ballot, particularly in Minneapolis, had their ballots rejected and not counted." Lillehaug said they have information about 461 absentee ballots rejected for various reasons that may be valid.

The board, under advice from Hennepin County senior attorney Dan Rogan, rejected Lillehaug's request, stating the board has limited authority to address the issues. Rogan said Lillehaug could raise the issue with Minnesota's state canvassing board meeting.

A post-election ballot review of five randomly selected precincts in Ramsey County yielded one more vote for DFL candidate Al Franken and one less vote for Republican incumbent Sen. Norm Coleman. The two-vote swing, in what represents a small fraction of the entire vote in Ramsey County, may not be reflected in the Secretary of State's running tally for days or even weeks.

The ballots are being recounted, not as part of an anticipated state-wide recount in the US Senate race between Franken and Coleman, but as part of normal ballot review done after every election to determine if the optical-scan voting machines recorded accurately.

Many are looking to the post-election ballot review to provide an indication of how the impending state-wide recount may go.

All eyes are on the ballots that are improperly marked. Minnesota has well-established voter intent laws which allow election judges and election managers to determine whether mis-marked ballots show clear intent for one candidate or another. Many of the improperly marked ballots contain an "X" or check mark in the optical-scan sheet's "bubble."

The optical-scan machines have proven to be very effective. In Ward 3 Precinct 5- there were 14 ballots that had been put in the "questionable" pile meaning they were not sure if the optical scanner had read them correctly because they were marked with an X or not fully filled in. Upon further review, 13 of those 14 ballots were counted correctly by the optical scanner.

Of the five randomly selected precincts that were audited in Ramsey County, the results are as follows:

    * St. Paul Ward 3 Precinct 13:  + 1 vote for Franken
* St. Paul Ward 6 Precinct 5 :+ 2 votes for Franken, and a 1 vote loss for Coleman
* St. Paul Ward 7 Precicnt 14: + 2 votes for Franken
* St. Paul Ward 3 precinct 5 : 1 vote loss for Franken, +1 vote for Coleman
* Roseville Ward 2 : 3 vote loss for Franken, 1 vote loss for Coleman
* Net change +1 vote for Franken, -1 vote for Coleman = 2 vote swing for ...

Andy Barr of the Al Franken Campaign explains how Senator Norm Coleman's campaign went to court on Saturday to stop the counting of not just 32 absentee ballots in Ramsey County Court, but also ALL ballots in the state of Minnesota. At the time of the suit, Coleman was leading Franken by a little more than 200 votes which will trigger an automatic recount after the state canvassing board meets later this month. The suit was dissmissed.

more at www.theuptake.org
One of the undisputed stars of the Minnesota Republican Party was, and will remain to be, Michele Bachmann. Her penchant for outrageous comments coupled with a hard-right bent has earned her intense scrutiny from the media and strong support from Republican activists.

With the results of her race against DFL and Independent endorsed candidate Elwyn Tinklenberg still in doubt Bachmann entered the ballroom floor relatively early in the evening to talk with a select few members of the media.

Bachmann stopped to talk with former Minnesota Sen. Rudy Boschwitz and conservative talk show host Jason Lewis.

Lewis appeared to suggest that if Bachmann had tied her controversial comments about Barack Obama and some of her congressional coleagues holding "anti-American" views to the KKK and individuals such as the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney then more of the public would have understood.

Sometime after midnight, Tinklenberg conceded and Bachmann delivered her acceptance speech to roaring approval. Minnesota GOP Chair Ron Carey was particularly fired up for the occasion. Many late polls had Bachmann trailing Tinklenberg.

More at www.theuptake.org One of the undisputed stars of the Minnesota Republican Party was, and will remain to be, Michele Bachmann.
