Their homes in Lebanon's Nahr al Bared camp lie in ruins. For many there's little more than rubble.
The media has been banned from entering the camp, but Aljazeera has obtained the first pictures from inside since the refugees were allowed to return. Zeina Khodr has our exclusive report.

The first 100 Palestinian families have returned to their homes in the Nahr al-Bared refugee camp in northern Lebanon. Most of the camp's 40,000 residents were forced to flee during weeks of intense fighting between the Lebanese army and Fatah al-Islam fighters. Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr was with one family as they returned home.

Lebanon buries Fatah al-Islam - 04 Oct 07

The bodies of 98 Fatah al-Islam fighters who died during the group's 15 week battle against the Lebanese Army have been buried.

The fighting, in the Nahr al-Bared Palestinian refugee camp was the worst internal fighting Lebanon has seen since the civil war in which 400 people died.

Return to Nahr al-Bared - 29 Sep 07

The first group of Palestinian refugees are expected to return shortly to the Nahr al-Bared camp in Lebanon.

But they will not find it as they left it.

For the first time since May, the media was allowed inside the camp, much of it demolished after the nearly four-month battle between the Lebanese Army and members of Fatah al-Islam.

Lebanon grieves for dead soldier

Al Jazeera's Ayman Mohyeldin reports from a village near Tripoli in northern Lebanon on the family of a soldier who fought and died in the battle with the Fatah al-Islam group at the Nahr al-Bared refugee camp. Their images serve as a reminder of the heavy toll Lebanon paid during this conflict, but they also raise questions about the role of the army in Lebanese society and how well the army is prepared. On Tuesday, Lebanon's defence minister warned against a political stalemate in the run-up to the presidential elections at the end of the month. So as the country turns its attention away from fighting and towards politics once again, some will be watching what role - if any - the military will play.
