Democratic critics of the continued occupation of Iraq argue that we cannot afford an open-ended presence in that country, and they are right. What they may not realize, however, is that their (correct) arguments for a drawdown of our occupation of Iraq have implications for their proposed alternative defense and foreign policies. If we cannot afford an extended, costly occupation of Iraq, we certainly can't afford to escalate our presence in Afghanistan.

House Democrats have for years held up the indeterminate length and deep costs of the Iraq war as reasons for redeployment of U.S. troops. For example, on October 22, 2007, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said:

"The choice is between a Democratic plan for responsible redeployment of our troops and the President's plan to spend another trillion dollars for a 10-year war in Iraq. We must end this war."

The Speaker was absolutely correct in 2007, and her statement carries even more force following stock market and credit crises and a mind-boggling $700 billion bailout. The United States' economy is in dire straights, and we cannot continue to pay the overt and hidden costs of the Iraq occupation if we hope to fund any meaningful solutions to our nation's challenges.

Is Nancy Pelosi trying to improve her ratings with hate groups like FAIR and NumbersUSA?

Check out an excerpt from her interview on the Charles Rose Show just this past week (Oct 16):

NANCY PELOSI: Immigration, we have to have comprehensive immigration reform. We`ve always talked about our principles: secure our borders, enforce our laws, have -- Family unification has been part of our immigration law. Have that as a principle. Try to have path to legalization. I still don`t know where Senator McCain is on it. He has been back and forth. He was the author of the legislation and then he opposed it and the rest. But perhaps what we have to do is reverse it and require that everyone in our country become legal. And then say to them, if you can`t meet the test, you have to go home. Or you have -- you just have --

CHARLIE ROSE: Require them to go through the process of becoming legal.

NANCYPELOSI: I`m just saying becoming citizens. I`m just saying register so that we know who you are.

CHARLIE ROSE: If you`re not willing to register and be identified, then you`ve got to go back.

NANCY PELOSI: You got to go back. We have to do something.

What was that? Surely, Nancy Pelosi is in a position to realize that undocumented migrants are not undocumented out of choice--we CANNOT become legal no matter how much we want to. Hello? What part of legal immigration don't you understand? Those of us brought here by our parents illegally CANNOT become legal without legislation such as the DREAM Act or Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Additionally, requiring us to go home means a 10-year ban and separation from our families--what sort of family unification plan is that?

What democratic principles is Nancy Pelosi upholding by agreeing to politically disenfranchise 12 million immigrants forever?

The $700 billion bailout plan came to a vote in the House of Representatives after a week of intense debate. Though both Democratic and Republican leadership called on their colleagues to support the bill, it failed by 23 votes.

In a marathon deal making session, amidst protestors chanting "bailout people not banks," lawmakers reached a deal to move forward with the largest bailout in our nation's history. House speaker Nancy Pelosi declared victory: "We sent a message to Wall Street," she said. "The party is over."

Pelosi also insisted: "This is not a bailout, it's a buy in." Full congressional approval is now required.

From HuffPo's Sam Stein:

A tenuous agreement on a bailout plan for Wall Street that had been reached Thursday morning was threatening to fall apart by the time evening had arrived. At fault, it became clear, was a divided Republican Party within the House of Representatives, whose leadership begrudgingly favored the $700 billion bailout but whose ardently conservative members were balking at the idea.

Things grew so heated within the caucus, the Politico reported, that "some House Republicans are saying privately that they'd rather 'let the markets crash' than sign on to a massive bailout."

One GOP lawmaker, referring to his defiant colleagues, asked rhetorically: "For the sake of the altar of the free market system, do you accept a Great Depression?"

But if the party was looking for leadership, it did not find it in its presidential nominee. Sen. John McCain, who on Wednesday said he was leaving the campaign trail to help steer a bailout proposal, may have just exacerbated the problems.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's appearance on a special Meet the Bloggers yesterday proved two things: not only can politicians work together to fix one of the worst economic crises in our nation's history, but they can do this while continuing to speak to the American people, keeping us informed about what's happening in the halls of Congress.

Unlike Senator John McCain, who suspended his campaign and public appearances yesterday because he claimed Washington couldn't fix this financial crisis without his "economic expertise," Speaker Pelosi spoke candidly with show host Cenk Uygur about whether the Bush-Paulson bailout plan would work. Though Speaker Pelosi stressed the need for a bipartisan solution to solve the current crisis, she said the "party is over" for Republicans like McCain who have pushed for the deregulation that led to this mess in the first place. Speaker Pelosi called the expansive power for Treasury Secretary Paulson laid out by the bailout plan "almost laughable"; she questioned the price tag and time frame of the bailout; and she claimed President Bush ought to give the American people an apology for his bankrupt economic policies during his nationally televised speech last night.

McCain, meanwhile, was busy incurring the mocking wrath of David Letterman for canceling his appearance on "The Late Show" yesterday, only to appear in an interview with CBS's Katie Couric instead. (Perhaps McCain could have continued conducting interviews from Washington via the Internet like Pelosi, if only he knew how to use it!) McCain's "suspension" of his campaign was a cheap political ploy, clearly aimed at preventing him from slipping further in the polls because of a crisis he and his aides like Rick Davis and Phil Gramm helped create. Why else would he suddenly be so inclined to show up in Congress when he has been the most absent member of the Senate?

Gallup Poll Bush 33% approval - 64% disapproval | 3% undecided
Obama 46% - McCain 47%
___________________
..but, at what expense? The working class women are flocking to McCain-Palin.
In a surprise move, Senator John McCain introduced his vice presidential pick Alaskan governor Sarah Palin at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio. Although I wouldnt support the McCain campaign, I must admit, she does have appeal. I mean, I have never seen so many Republicans, working class women and the media fawn over a governor who is just an average working mother. Most working class white women can relate to her.

In this video, I will explain the power of women voters, and also the Hannity interview with Palin in Cincinnati [oops, Youngstown], Ohio. Going to the poorest city in my state for a softball and flirt interview with Governor Sarah Palin, makes this interview more interesting. So interesting Jay Leno ridiculed the interview! More on that at the end of this video!

They rather vote for the very fact that shes on the ticket, instead of a politician who supports their views on social and economic issues.

After so many months of hearing: Oh, hes Black, hes voting for him cause hes Black! Is it now time for me to say Oh, shes a woman, shes voting for them because theres a woman on the ticket!

They want to put a vagina over issues! Well I guess this time, PUMA, Republicans and conservatives will wreck what they sow. I am going to step the game up further by making it clear; I am going to demonize you!

For far too long, progressives and independents were too gracious to Republicans and conservatives. For months I dealt with the off-the-wall comments from people from all walks of life who dont even know me.

I do respect the governor for making herself the candidate of the women. I do want to see women in power. But when it comes to issues that relate to me, I think she doesnt me or the supporters of my videos.

Now onto leadership! Some people forget that the Speaker of the House is a woman. I mean Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was demonized by conservatives and Republicans. She is the most powerful congressional leader in the United States. There are many women in Congress representing their districts. There are 74 women who serve in congress. Thats not a lot but its making improvements. I mean what about former Supreme Court justice Sandra Day OConner and current justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I mean what about the nearly twenty five years of leadership in Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY). What about leadership with Senators Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Amy Klobuchar (D [DFL]-MN), Susan Collins (R-ME), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Patty Murray (D-WA) and Blanche Lincoln (D-AK). Other than Governor Palin, there are seven other governors who serve their states respectively.

Women came a long way and even though Governor Sarah Palin is not the choice for me, I respect her for her courage and strength. She is the Republican Messiah!

Thank the women rights defender Rush Limbaugh for the inspiration. Also thank you the viewer of this video. Take a stand against corporate owned media by turning off the television, radio and internet smear machine off. And of course, check your facts before presenting a video. If anyone notices an error in my statement please inform me by sending a message.

ConWebBlog has this item revealing just how "dethpickable" (in the immortal word of Sylvester) Michael "Liberalism is a Mental Disorder" Savage continues to be nearly two months after the infamous autism flap which caused no less than ten stations to drop the show and several advertisers to pull their buys therefrom:

A Sept. 3 WorldNetDaily article uncritically repeated a claim that "Michael Savage's new autobiography, self-published and available on the MichaelSavage.com website, has surpassed the sales of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's recent publication, 'Know Your Power: A Message to America's Daughters.'" The article added: "Officials for Savage's radio show, which is heard by an estimated 8-10 million listeners weekly, confirmed to WND that publicly available sales totals for Pelosi's book after one week were about 2,300, and while they wanted to withhold exact numbers, sales of 'Psychological Nudity' had surpassed that significantly in its first week."

WND offers no information about how it "confirmed" Savage's numbers, given Savage's desire to "withhold exact numbers." Since the book is self-published, outside verification would be difficult if not impossible; WND provides no reason why readers should implicitly trust Savage's accounting.

The article adds a quote from Savage's actual press release, which states, "The power of talk radio and the Internet is once again being ignored by the failing publishing and newspaper industries." The article does not explain how having purportedly greater sales than Pelosi is a meaningful measure of anything, let alone "the power of talk radio and the Internet."

Further, Savage's bashing of the "failing" publishing industry is odd, given that Savage's four previous books were made available through publishing houses--WND's book division and Thomas Nelson. Typically, one resorts to self-publishing only when a publishing house will not otherwise take the book. After all, if Savage's book sales were really as good as he claims they are, he'd still be with a real publisher, right?

So what explains why Mr. Savage wants to keep sales details secret? The desire to avoid arousing suspicions of bulk purchases by conservative groups and book clubs for less than Fair Market Value?

==========================

"Don't let 'em fool you, bro; read (and shop) The Exaggerator @ any and every opportunity...."

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's appearance Wednesday at a West Los Angeles college to discuss her recently published book was marred by dozens of protestors and several angry outbursts by audience members who demanded Pelosi immediately authorize a House committee to hold impeachment hearings against President George W. Bush.

The Speaker made it clear she would not support any effort to hold impeachment hearings against President Bush saying that the president "will be gone in a hundred days."

Halfway through her discussion at The American University of Judaism, where more than 300 people paid $30 each to hear Pelosi speak about her upbringing and her family's impact on her political career as detailed in her book Know Your Power: A Message to America's Daughters, the topic shifted to Congress's historically low approval rating and how it reflected on Pelosi's tenure as Speaker.

American University of Judaism's Rabbi Robert Wexler, who led the 75 minute interview, asked Pelosi to analyze a recent Rasmussen poll that found nine percent of individuals polled believed Congress was doing a good job, far lower than President Bush's overall approval rating.

Pelosi responded by defending her performance and the performance of her Democratic colleagues in Congress.

"I preside over the greatest collection of integrity and idealism," Pelosi said.

Democrats are playing with fire. How long do you think they will get away with zero results?

I'll never vote for a Republican, but if you think the rank and file Democrat is going to vote for a Democratic candidate who supports FISA, you're completely crazy. I usually vote Democrat.....not Republican-Light. I wasn't aware the party changed it's platform.

I'll stay home and wait for Hillary. At least she has the guts to fight.

Republican Representative Walter Jones not only calls for Rove to testify before the House Judiciary Committee but SMACKS President Bush while doing so:

"In the year 2000 when President Bush was a candidate he said many times in debate he would bring dignity to the White House. This would be a great start if Karl Rove would come before the Judiciary Committee and let him explain his involvement, if any, in the Don Siegelman case."

Meanwhile Democratic Rep. Linda Sanchez states that she "personally would love to see" Rove arrested and held in jail where there would be a trial in the House of Representatives.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Defends Her Opposition to Impeachment: "If Somebody Had a Crime that the President Had Committed, That Would Be a Different Story."

On Monday, Rep. Pelosi appeared on ABC's The View and suggested impeachment is off the table because there is no evidence President Bush has committed any criminal acts. We ask Rep. Dennis Kucinich for a response. Kucinich recently introduced a single article of impeachment against President Bush. The article accuses Bush of deceiving Congress to authorize the invasion of Iraq.
