The website Icasualties.org now reports that over 1,000 coalition soldiers have died in Afghanistan. (I am having trouble locating precise figures on NATO casualties in Afghanistan and icasualty's estimate may be high. Wikipedia puts the number at 940.)

That, and Derrick Crowe's recent post at Brave New Films on why "We Cannot Afford to Escalate in Afghanistan," have me thinking about all the reasons why we cannot afford to escalate this war.

Financially, Derrick points out, the costs of sustaining each soldier in Afghanistan exceed those of financing each soldier in Iraq. Here at home, we've already got our backs against the wall. We have mounting economic problems. Ahead of us is a daunting energy transition that will require tremendous effort and imagination from the American people. Can we afford to escalate in Afghanistan, even when Secretary Gates and top British commanders now believe negotiating with the Taliban represents the most likely path toward ending the war?

I point out the gun blast in the video's pop up bubbles. I probably watched this video a dozen times before noticing it, as did most who have seen this video (I bet)... Terrorist state stooge soldier of israel runs right up to a Palestinian child and levels his gun at him, pulls the trigger. You can see the flash. The kid ducks but the guy is a horrible shot! Kid whoops his ass, and shows he's not only braver but smarter, because he apparently retrieves something the coward soldier dropped when he tucked tail and ran away. Palestine kid gets 5 stars for whooping nazi's ass. Yes Jews are the new nazis. I'm betting Hitler inseminated their women. That would explain their acts.

Barack Hussein Obama (born August 4, 1961), is the junior United States Senator from Illinois. According to the U.S. Senate Historical Office, he is the fifth African American Senator in U.S. history and the only African American currently serving in the U.S. Senate. He is a candidate for the Democratic Party's 2008 presidential nomination.

He was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996. Four years later, he made an unsuccessful run for the U.S. House of Representatives. Obama won reelection to the state senate in 2002, running unopposed. As early as 2002, he was a critic of the proposed Iraq War, declaring in a television interview that he would have voted against the Iraq Resolution. In 2004, he ran for an open seat in the U.S. Senate. Midway through the campaign, Obama delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention and became a nationally known political figure. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2004 with a landslide 70% of the vote.

Obama formally announced his candidacy for the 2008 presidential election in Springfield, Illinois, on February 10, 2007.

There has been a war of the words at the United Nations General Assembly after Ukraine rejected Russian pressure to prevent their entry into Nato on Wednesday, September 24, 200.

Without specifically naming Russia, Viktor Yushchenko, the Ukrainian president, condemned "all acts of aggression and the use of force that occurred in the region."

Russia is opposed to Nato entry for both Georgia and Ukraine, saying that NATO expansion and its support of a planned US anti-missile system in the Czech Republic and Poland is a "strategic error."

Relations between NATO and Russia sunk to their lowest point since the end of the Cold War after the recent conflict between Moscow and Tbilisi over Georgia's breakaway republic of South Ossetia.

As well as the fallout from the deteriorating relations Nato's secretary-general has also called for no interference in the way affairs are handled by the world body in Afghanistan.

Nato troops have been fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan for almost seven years following the September 11 2001 terror attacks on the United States.
