You can stop laughing now.</p><blockquote><p><strong>The U.S. Navy is sending three ships to the eastern Mediterranean Sea in a show of strength </strong>during a period of tensions with Syria and political uncertainty in Lebanon.</p><p>Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters <strong>the deployment should not be viewed as <em>threatening or in response to events</em> in any single country in the volatile region</strong>.</p></blockquote><p>Wow, oh, whew! For a second there, just one crazy little minuscule second, I mistook that for <em>threatening and in response to events</em>!</p><blockquote><p>&quot;<strong>It&#39;s a group of ships that will operate in the vicinity there for a while</strong>,&quot; adding that &quot;<strong>it isn&#39;t meant to send any stronger signals</strong> than that. But it does signal that <strong>we&#39;re engaged</strong>, we&#39;re going to be in the vicinity, and that&#39;s a <strong>very, very important part of the world</strong>.&quot; </p></blockquote><p>Ohh, it&#39;s just a bunch of boats out for some floaty fun... in a volatile area... where we could <em>provoke another war</em>!&nbsp; <em>Gaaaa!</em>&nbsp; Deep breath. Black.</p><blockquote><p>Mullen was asked whether <strong>the deployment of the ships was linked to the timing of the Lebanese election</strong>.</p><p>&quot;To say it&#39;s <strong>absolutely directly tied would be incorrect</strong>, but we are certainly <strong>aware that elections out there are both important, and they are due at some point in time</strong>,&quot; he replied.</p></blockquote> <p>So it goes a little something like this: The 3 big, bad, threatening ships are not in the least absolutely, positively, categorically, unambiguously tied to the elections that we know are due at some vague point in time in a powder keg region, a portion of which we&#39;ve already destroyed. </p><p>We just had some spare time on our hands to &quot;test the waters&quot; and play Navy in a very, very, extremely, very, very&nbsp; ultra-nerve-wracking part of the world in which we&#39;d like to control everything, meaning oil.</p><p>Okay.
