On April 7, 2008 a recently formed national commission examining raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents held its second regional hearing in the Massachusetts State House.

The hearing in Boston is part of a series of regional public meetings that the commission is holding to explore the execution, implications and ramifications of workplace immigration enforcement on local communities. The commission will also look into claims that ICE has engaged in violations of the 4th amendment. After a thorough investigation, the commission will produce a public report that highlights its findings and makes recommendations about how the system should be reformed.

Another Assault Weapon Tragedy

Robert Hawkins who went on a murderous rampage at the Westroads Mall in Omaha, Nebraska on Thursday was a disturbed young man. Reports show that he recently had broken up with his girlfriend, been fired from his job at McDonald's and was arrested days before the shooting for possessing alcohol.

Hawkins entered the mall, left, then re-entered six minutes later carrying a rolled-up sweatshirt, which turned out to be concealing an AK-47 assault weapon Hawkins stole from his stepfather's home according to Omaha Police Chief Thomas Warren. He then went up the elevator to the third floor, and when he got there, he immediately began firing killing six store employees and two customers.

Hawkins, like many troubled kids today fell through the cracks in society and was described as being kind of like a pound puppy that nobody wanted. He said in a suicide note that he didn't want to be a burden to people and that he was a piece of s*** all of his life and that now he'd be famous.

Every American’s heart goes out to the families of those who lost their lives and those who were injured or traumatized in Omaha. The sad reality is, that like so many times before, if Hawkins has not been able to get his hands on an AK-47 assault rifle that fired a hundred rounds a minute, the people who died in that mall would be alive today.

To the NRA members and gun advocates who will accuse me of injecting politics into a tragedy I will say this. You’re damn right I am. There is no reason on earth for anyone outside of law enforcement to legally be able to possess an assault rifle whose only purpose is to kill people. None.

Some claim the Second Amendment of The U.S. Constitution’s Bill Of Rights guarantees their right to own assault weapons. Wrong. The Second Amendment says the following,

A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

This clearly refers to the founder’s belief that a “militia” needed to be armed to defend the nation, otherwise why have it in the sentence to begin with? Why didn’t they just say, “The right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed.” Because it was intended to refer to a “militia” and a “militia only” that’s why.

It is also preposterous to draw the conclusion that the founding fathers had anything else in mind except a single shot muzzle loading black powder rifle. They had no clue there would be a debate more than two hundred years later that would revolve around whether citizen’s have the right to own an AK-47 assault rifle that fires 100 shots per minute.

Illinois resident Gail Rice said this in July of 2007,

My brother Bruce was a police officer killed in the line of duty with an assault weapon, He was one of the 20 percent of all law enforcement deaths nationally each year from assault weapons. Law enforcement is on the front lines, they are the ones whose lives are on the line every day.

Even if one accepts that there is a constitutional right to own a gun, I would ask you to consider this. After the Bill of Rights was written and the Constitution signed, slavery remained legal and women didn’t have the right to vote. Many of the morays and beliefs of those times were not necessarily righteous or enlightened. Change is healthy and strict constructionist thinking is bad for America and Americans. Accordingly, we need to wake up and realize that we need stricter gun control laws in this country.

1. Gun control would reduce the access to guns by criminals, juveniles, and other high-risk individuals.

2. There should be broad policy changes such as near-prohibition of non-police handgun ownership and the registration of all firearm owners or firearms.

How many more senseless, slaughters by people wielding assault weapons will have to occur before the American people wake up.

Nebraska State Senator Takes God To Court Over Terrorism

Nebraska State Senator filed a lawsuit against God on September 14th, 2007, claiming that God should be blamed for causing "calamitous catastrophes resulting in the widespread death, destruction and terrorisation of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants including innocent babes, infants, children, the aged and infirm without mercy or distinction"

He's doing this to make this point about Christian and Right Wing organizations who use the U.S Court system to further their ideological agenda by filing frivolous lawsuits.

According to Chambers he's attempted numerous times to contact God to setting this whole thing out of court, but God as failed to respond thus resulting in his decision to pursue legal action.
