Visit www.dpo.org/walden for the whole story.

Watch the video and decide for yourself if you want Greg Walden managing the state.

For Republican U.S. Congressman Greg Walden, his reluctance to pick up the phone cost the National Republican Congressional Committee hundreds of thousands of dollars and potentially Walden's shot at the governor's mansion.

Oh, those Republican crooky crooks:

As expected, the National Republican Campaign Committee today released the preliminary results of an investigation of its accounts -- a probe that seeks to determine how much the committee's former treasurer Chris Ward might have stolen.

And how much would that be?

* At year end 2006, the NRCC’s actual cash on hand was approximately $990,000 less than the amount reported to the FEC.

* The actual cash on hand as of the NRCC’s most recent FEC report for January 31, 2008 (filed on February 20, 2008) was $740,000 less than the amount reported to the FEC.

I'm not surprised. Are you surprised? Why are they surprised?

As NRCC Chair Tom Cole (R-OK) puts it, "the evidence we have today indicates we have been deceived and betrayed for a number of years by a highly respected and trusted individual."

Have they not noticed their own President and his "highly respected and trusted" administration? Um, guys? If that's not deception and betrayal, I don't know what is.

Quel surprise. A Republican did something unethical, possibly illegal:

A staffer working for Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) apparently broke House rules Friday, forwarding a request that congressional staffers send interns to the Republican National Committee (RNC) to make campaign-related phone calls.

I'm sure it was just an innocent mistake, nothing too specific, just some vague, misunderstood, offhand comment.

The episode started when an aide at the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) sent an e-mail Friday to congressional staffers. The e-mail asked the GOP aides to send interns to the RNC to make phone calls for Jim Oberweis (R), who is running for former House Speaker Dennis Hastert’s (R-Ill.) vacated congressional seat in a special election Saturday.

“If you have interns sitting around today, please send them over to the RNC...to phone bank for Oberweis,” the e-mail states.

It's not like he used House resources for campaign purposes or anything. Let's not be too hard on the lad.

Matthew Lillibridge, a staff assistant in Chabot’s office, forwarded the e-mail to aides in other congressional offices, apparently violating House rules against using House resources for campaign purposes. Lillibridge used his House e-mail address, forwarding the e-mail to other addresses on the House e-mail server.

Busted.

“It raises questions as to what other activities are taking place in Congressman Steve Chabot’s office on the taxpayer’s dime,” Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) spokesman Doug Thornell told The Hill. Democrats are targeting Chabot's seat this cycle.

Hey, it's okay though... he apologized. Wait. What's that smell?

Rep. Gene Green (D-Texas), a member of the House ethics committee, told The Hill the NRCC staffer’s request for interns “didn’t smell right.”

“I’m not sure if it’s illegal, but it sure sounds like it is,” Green said, noting that he never felt comfortable asking his congressional employees to do campaign work.

That's because you have a sense of ethics, Gene. Sadly, that's a rarity these days.

So The DCCC took a look at a band of debt-ridden, scandal-plagued, short-on-recruitment, morally and financially broke miscreants known as the Congressional GOP and decided they have the ability to take a shot at winning 40 seats in 2008.

For comparison sake, we won 30 seats (I believe) in 2006. If you look at the districts they're targeting (including 5 in Ohio, 4 in New York and 4 in Florida), you'll find many open seats, Republican scandals and crappy GOP challengers.

You can get more details here. But I have two more things to say:

1) We've learned that any Democrat is not good enough. Progressives should be the goal here; 2) Watch this absolutely horrendous video, I'm talking on par with your average Chuck Norris flick, and you'll gain some insight into the pure comedy that is Republicanism.

The usual GOP formula, run for the hills! If you elect a Democrat, brown people and taxes will find you!

Of course, when you're the party that offshores jobs like it's your avocation and will have created a 10 trillion dollar debt when you leave office, because you think Enron and Paris Hilton shouldn't pay taxes while the hard-working residents of Ohio's 5th District should lose their houses to predatory lenders, well, that message doesn't sell quite as well.

And when your candidate is "Coingate" Bob Latta, and the Democratic candidate is the talented and progressive Robin Weirauch, well, that further explains the fearmongering.

Might that be why the NRCC is still dumping money they don't have into a district that is +10 Republican?

Pathetic.

Well, with Republicans being arrested every week for tap dancing like they're Fred Astaire in a bathroom stall near you and outright bribery, and their policies on everything from Iraq to the economy in shambles, this is just what they need:

House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) is trying to force out the top two staffers of the National Republican Campaign Committee - leading to a threat of resignation from the NRCC by Chairman Tom Cole (R-Okla.) if it happens, said GOP insiders.

In a recent meeting in the minority leader's office, Boehner told Cole that he was displeased at how the NRCC is being run. Republican sources say Boehner wants to replace Pete Kirkham, the NRCC's executive director, and Terry Carmack, its political director, with more "aggressive" people with a more "realistic" view on next year's elections, sources said.

Boehner has not yet directly asked Cole to replace the two men, although his intention to do so is well known in House leadership circles. Cole has refused to consider the move and has privately declared, "I will resign before I fire those two," said sources familiar with the dispute.

The only two words I can think of to describe my reaction are "ha" and "ha."
