TRANSCRIPT:
DAN FAROUGH: Well you know I think what McCain is doing is really trying to change the focus. If you look at his record on energy, you know what you will see is a advocate of big oil, protecting big oil's profits, and so what we feel in Michigan is that this visit to the nuclear power plant is really an attempt to disguise his real record which is again one of protecting big oil and big oil industry profits. The other piece of it that's a big concern to Michigan and Ohio I believe as well is where do you stand on the auto industry? You know you have this amazing resource, some of the best trained workers in the world right here in the Midwest. We could be making the cars and trucks of the future. Fuel cells, hybrid vehicles, that would break our dependence on foreign oil. Unfortunately, Senator McCain -- I'm sure he doesn't want to talk about- but consistently opposes measures to retool the auto industry. In fact Senator McCain has said that he's supported the outsourcing of jobs. You know that that's a viable economic decision. That's killing Michigan. It's hurting Ohio and what we need to see from public officials is a willingness to make these tough decisions and stand up to special interests like big oil. [...]

JIM HARRIS: My name is Jim Harris and I'm President of the utility workers union America Local Number 223. I represent the 220 working men and women inside the Fermi facility. Well, we want to make sure that the message from organized labor and particularly utility workers unions is John McCain, John McCain is not right for Michigan. We want to make the message as well as utility workers and organized labor supportive of nuclear power but John McCain's policies are bad for Michigan in relation to economic policy and working families. Well we've got as with any organized organization we have members who have a variety of different political beliefs. We're educating our members on what his policies are. The union with the strong support of our membership endorsing Senator Obama so we believe a majority of our members feel the same way. They have not seen benefits of the current administration as far as their paychecks go and their benefits go and they're ready for a change.

Amory Lovins: Expanding Nuclear Power Makes Climate Change Worse

There's one issue that President Bush and presidential hopefuls John McCain and Barack Obama all agree on: expanding the use of nuclear power. We speak with Amory Lovins, the co-founder, chairman and chief scientist of Rocky Mountain Institute in Colorado, who has been described as "one of the Western world's most influential energy thinkers."
JOHN MCCAIN: [...] there are many many technologies. There's many alternate energy sources, there's many things we can do. And one of them, by the way, is nuclear power. And I know, in New Hampshire, because of Seabrook how controversial that is. But we have sailed Navy ships around the world for sixty years with nuclear power plants on them and we've never had an accident. The challenge is not nuclear power, the challenge is what do you do with the waste? What'd you do with the waste?

"Well, you can do what the Europeans do and reprocess it or you can store it. By the way, by the way, the French . . . 80% of their electricity is generated by nuclear power."

Iran says their development of nuclear power is strictly peaceful. The U.S. disagrees. America has gained a surprising new ally on the Security Council - France. But Iran has two Security Council allies - Russia and China - guaranteeing a veto of new UN sanctions. This week's episode features news coverage about the issue by national broadcast networks of key Security Council member nations.

More: linktv.org

Britain has given the go-ahead for the construction of a new generation of nuclear power stations, in its search for cleaner, greener sources of energy. The government says nuclear power is key to fighting climate change and securing future energy supplies. But not everyone believes it really is a greener alternative.

Sunday November 11, 2007 Elizabeth Kucinich arrived in Denver to attend the Colorado for Kucinich fundraiser brunch held at the Mercury Café. The Mercury Café is one of Denver's alternative hotspots and has led the way in greening Denver by installing solar panels and wind turbines. The Mercury has been sponsoring bio diesel support groups, and owner Marilyn McGinnity is a great supporter of the Kucinich campaign.
The turn out was large and Kucinich was well received. Colorado4Kucinch organizers stressed the need to get Kucinich supporters out to the precinct caucus process which is held on February 5, 2008. Colorado does not hold a presidential preference primary. Campaign organizers urged members of the audience to remind their friends that December 5, 2007 is the deadline for registering to vote as a Democrat in order to be eligible to participate in the Democratic caucus process.
Paige Tompson introduced Elizabeth Kucinich who took the stage and gave a brief talk about the campaign and some key issues before saying she really wanted to hear from the audience, and answer any questions they may have about issues or the campaign.
