Almost two-thirds of Indonesians have a negative opinion of the United States and anti-American sentiment is running high just weeks before the November 4 presidential election.

Al Jazeera's Step Vaessen asked three Indonesians if a new president in the White House could change that view.

Pollster John Zogby discusses Barack Obama and the impact of race on the 2008 U.S. Presidential election.

-----

As we enter the final months before the historic 2008 presidential election, how has the American character and our attitude towards politics and foreign policy changed?

According to pollster John Zogby, the conventional wisdom about Americans -- that we're isolated from the world, politically fragmented, and inclined toward material pleasure -- isn't just flawed, it may be 180 degrees from the truth.

Drawing on thousands of in-depth surveys, he reveals a new and developing American character, including the emergence of the most globally oriented generation in our history.

Join the Council for a conversation with John Zogby as he helps us to understand where we are headed politically, culturally and globally, as well as how this new direction is shaping the politics behind both presidential campaigns - World Affairs Council of Northern California

John Zogby is President and Chief Executive Officer of Zogby International, a leading public opinion and market research firm. Mr. Zogby routinely conducts polls on health care reform and global health efforts. Among his accomplishments, he is widely recognized for correctly predicting the cliffhanger result of the 2000 presidential election for George W. Bush, in contrast to most other pollsters who had projected that Bush would win easily. Mr. Zogby established his firm in 1984 and since then has been tracking public opinion in North America, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. He has written guest editorials for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, among other major newspapers, and he is the author of a forthcoming portrait of the new American consumer, which will be published by Random House this fall.
I am a black conservative black male. I'm ashamed of my black people. Obama represents bigger government and leans heavily on the far left. He believes in raising taxes. How can you be a black entrepreneur owning a small business support him? The government will take 62% of your profit leaving you with 36 cents on the dollar. I'm all for supporting black people but my principles comes first. This man panders and says anything to get a vote. One day he claims to be pro choice now a banner on his pathetic website says he's pro life. My mother always told me the friends and company you keep is a reflection on you. Obama has friends and associates running his campaign who are not good for America. He wants to socialize our nation? Look at Europe? Do we really want our rights taking away from us? Do you really want the government running our life? Everything the government does fails. Look at Fannie and Freddy. I really wish McCain would call names. Connecticut own Chris Dodd needs to do the right thing and step down. New World Order is soon coming.

Indian foreign affairs analyst Raja Mohan argues that many leaders among India's foreign policy establishment would prefer John McCain over Barack Obama as the next U.S. President.

-----

During the Asia Society's 36th Annual Williamsburg Conference in April in Bali, Indonesia, we asked policy leaders from across Asia which US presidential candidate is most favorably viewed in their part of the world.

A large number of respondents said Barack Obama was the most popular, and the Indonesian respondents in particular talked about the significance of Senator Obama's early childhood in the country. Meanwhile, the city named "Obama" in Japan is enjoying increasing popularity! - Asia Society

Dr C Raja Mohan is an analyst of Indian foreign policy and international security affairs and an advocate of India's strategical alignment with America. He has served on India's National Security Advisory Board during 1998-2000.
Join swissnex and our esteemed panel to discuss the media/politics nexus inside election campaigns.

During the course of the evening we will gain a better understanding of the interplay between systems of political mass communications, party competition and election polemics by exploring the relationship between media and politics - Swissnex

Shanto Iyengar holds a joint appointment as the Harry and Norman Chandler Chair in Communication and Professor of Political Science at Stanford University. Iyengar is also a senior fellow (by courtesy) at the Hoover Institution.

He is the author of several books including Media Politics: A Citizen's Guide, Going Negative: How Political Advertisements Shrink and Polarize the Electorate Explorations in Political Psychology, and News That Matters: Television and American Opinion.

Amy S. Mitchell is Deputy Director for the Project for Excellence in Journalism. She has been with the Project since its inception in 1997.
News Corporation Chairman Rupert Murdoch argues that all news media - News Corp's own Fox News included - is inherently prone to bias, and that the best counter to this problem is a diverse media representing a variety of opinions.

------

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch warned that "technology will continue to destroy all of the old ways and old assumptions, especially in the media" during an April 2 speech on "Creative Destruction: News for the 21st Century."

Rupert Murdoch is the chairman and chief executive officer of News Corporation, a global media company with properties in film, television, print and online.

News Corporation's subsidiaries include Fox News Channel, Dow Jones (publisher of the Wall Street Journal), 20th Century Fox, and MySpace - Georgetown University

Rupert Murdoch is an Australian-American global media mogul. He is the major shareholder, chairman and managing director of News Corporation (News Corp).

Beginning with newspapers, magazines and television stations in his native Australia, Murdoch expanded News Corp into the UK, US and Asian media markets. In recent years has become a leading investor in satellite television, the film industry, the Internet and media. News Corp is based in New York.

Acclaimed author Tom Wolfe offers a defense of the much-maligned 43rd President of the United States.

This program was recorded as a part of the Hoover Institution's interview series, "Uncommon Knowledge."

-----

Peter Robinson engages America’s master novelist in a conversation that ranges from the death of the American novel to the "charming aristocracy" that seeks to dictate literary standards to the intersection of culture and the latest findings in neuroscience.

Along the way, Tom Wolfe reaffirms his place as the preeminent chronicler of the changing American scene - Hoover Institution

Dr. Thomas Kennerly "Tom" Wolfe is an American author and journalist, best known as one of the founders of the New Journalism movement of the 1960s and 1970s.

Tom Wolfe is the author of many books including I Am Charlotte Simmons, Hooking Up, A Man in Full, The Bonfire of the Vanities, The Purple Decades, From Bauhaus to Our House, In Our Time, The Right Stuff, Mauve Gloves & Madmen, Clutter & Vine, The Painted Word, Radical Chic & Mau-Mauing the Flak Catchers, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, The Pump House Gang and The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby.

Peter M. Robinson is a research fellow at the Hoover Institution, where he writes about business and politics, edits Hoover's quarterly journal, the Hoover Digest, and hosts Hoover's television program, Uncommon Knowledge.

Robinson is also the author of three books: How Ronald Reagan Changed My Life; It's My Party: A Republican's Messy Love Affair with the GOP; and the best-selling business book Snapshots from Hell: The Making of an MB.

Thanks for viewing and post your comments at the bottom.

Minus One Equals, 309,999,999! That's would be me!

Still here's a thought! If the country is in the bad shape it is, why do you need an "honest" opinion like mine? I am from Dayton, Ohio. I work for a living and do YouTube as a hobby. I am a media watchdog and will go hard on the media! I get so much flack from liberals who think "I'm too conservative" or conservatives who think "I'm too liberal".

What kind of person needs an adjective to their name?

This is an outlook of the things to come.

Celebrate your independence and take a stand against those who want to silence your voice.

Whether you are a liberal or conservative, I am here to make my message clear: "We are all Americans! And we love our country!"

Follow up to And They Think I Am...
