[applause] It is my pleasure to introduce a man who walks the walk and talks the talk. My friend, Rick Perry grew up in West Texas, he went to Paint Creek High School in Pasco County. He became a successful rancher, became a state representative, commissioner of agriculture, lieutenant governor of Texas, worked with, then governor, George W. Bush and then governor of Texas. [applause] He is the real deal. In his second year as governor, the state of Texas went through a financial crisis like so many states in America did. And most everybody raised taxes, tried to cut spending as best they could but Rick Perry he cut spending and for the first time in a major industrial state in decades, the spending in Texas for the biennium of 2003 and 2004 was less than the previous biennium of 2001 and 2002. A huge accomplishment. No new taxes, cut spending.
