www.ralphbuckley.com I think we all know in our gut...the game is up...!!! Strange thing happened this morning...I pulled my piano out of the closet and I was tinking around with the idea of doing this song and video....when "BOOM"..!!! All of sudden the power went out...computer shut down...etc... I ran outside and heard a few alarms sounding off...it sounded like it was coming from the surrounding buildings around my apt building... My thoughts were spinning for a minute or 2.... It had been sometime since I was made acutely aware of just how close we are to complete madness and chaos... This is the kind of thing...that may very well happen....but for real.....sooner then we think. This turned out to be a false alarm...(not a false flag).. But...it drove a point deep into my subconsciousness.... Just yesterday the city of Seattle did a 'earthquake' drill...with those TV droning endless tones...."If this was an actual emergency..." and downtown I heard their big alarms going off... You know...I can't recall ever hearing those before.... ______________________ Here is an interview with 'Half Past Human' or commonly known as the 'time monks'... It's from Coast to Coast last Sunday night....George Knapp is the host. For those of u not familiar with the 'time monks'.... this should be a real treat for U... They have developed software that can actually accurately predict future events..... This is described in great detail in the interview....anyways.... October 7th and October 15th are some dates that stand out big in their predictions... If you wanna know more....click below & listen... www.archive.org www.archive.org www.archive.org This is some very interesting stuff....!!! __________________________ Stop by the website and say hello... www.ralphbuckley.com

Glenn Gould was famous for his obsessions. But perhaps Goulds greatest obsession of all was for a particular piano, a Steinway concert grand known as CD 318 (C to signify its special status as having been put aside for the use of Steinway Concert Artists, and D, denoting it as the largest that Steinway built). A Romance on Three Legs is the story of Goulds love for this piano, from the first moment of discovery, in a Toronto department store, to the tragic moment when the piano was dropped and seriously damaged while being transported.

Katie Hafner, reporter for the New York Times, comes from a family of truly gifted musicians and is a clumsy, but dedicated pianist. She grew up listening to her father, a physicist and talented pianist, play the piano and expound on Glenn Goulds interpretations of Bach. Hafner is the author of four books, including Cyberpunk: Outlaws and Hackers on the Computer Frontier (with John Markoff) and The Well: A Story of Love, Death and Real Life in the Seminal Online Community.
This event took place on October 15, 2008

-------------------------

BOK Center opens with a multifaith blessing
http://tinyurl.com/sambok2

Music rocked the BOK Center downtown Sunday afternoon as thousands gathered for a multifaith celebration and blessing of the new building.

Fired by a 450-voice choir from about 85 houses of worship, the crowd often rose to its feet in applause and joined in the singing.

Recording artist Sam Harris, a native of the Tulsa area, said he was thrilled to be at the celebration, which was part of the grand opening for the arena.

"What a blessing it is to be in this place," he said while catching his breath after belting out, "Change Is on the Way," from his album "Free."

Harris was backed by the New Dimensions Chorale.

He asked the audience to join him in an old favorite children's worship song with the lyrics: "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine."

He urged the audience to "seek goodness everywhere, and wherever it is found, let it be free and unashamed."

Master of ceremonies John Erling quipped: "This is the day that the taxpayers have made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it."

He thanked Rick Fortner, music director at All Souls Unitarian Church, for providing the spark years ago that resulted in the celebration, and for directing the community choir.

Near the end of the celebration, 11 faith leaders representing the major religions of the world offered prayers of blessing for the new facility.

Sitting side-by-side on the podium were spiritual leaders who were Methodist, Charismatic, Roman Catholic, Mormon, Greek Orthodox, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Unitarian, Buddhist and African Methodist Episcopal.

"We decided to call it a multifaith event, rather than an interfaith event, which carries some connotations," said Jim Mishler, executive director of Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry, who helped plan the celebration.

"We asked faith leaders to pray in their own tradition."

As a result, several leaders used the term "in Jesus' name," a phrase generally frowned upon at interfaith events.

Another prayed to Allah in Arabic, and another prayed in Sanskrit. Bishop Edward J. Slattery, of the Catholic Diocese of Tulsa, prayed in Spanish.

English translations of the foreign language prayers were displayed on the scoreboard as the leaders prayed.

A common theme running through the prayers was that the arena would be a blessing to the Tulsa community.

Erling said the participation of such diverse faith leaders at one event "has probably never been done in our city to this degree."

Mayor Kathy Taylor and BOK Center General Manager John Bolton spoke briefly.

As the crowd streamed out of the arena, Jeramy Auld said of the celebration, "I thought it was great."

"We're taxpayers," his wife Libby Auld said. "We thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be here."

Sam Harris, in the recording studio, working on one of the tracks for his new album entitled "Free".

This song is especially emotional to Sam, and hard for him to get through, so he insisted that what you hear (and see) is what you get the first time around. Therefore, what you are hearing here is the actual recording you will hear from the album. Does not get anymore raw than this!

I CAN'T MAKE YOU LOVE ME

Turn down the lights, turn down the bed
turn down these voices inside my head.
Lay down with me, tell me no lies.
Just hold me close, don't patronize
-- don't patronize me.

I can't make you love me, if you don't.
You can't make your heart feel something it won't.
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours,
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power.
But you won't, no you won't,
cause I can't make you love me, if you don't.

I'll close my eyes, then I won't see
the love you dont feel when youre holding me.
Morning will come, and I'll do what's right.
Just give me till then to give up this fight,
and I will give up this fight.

I can't make you love me, if you don't.
You can't make your heart feel something it won't.
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours,

Birdland History...

Ever since most of Chicago's top musicians moved to New York in the mid-to-late 1920s, New York City has been the Jazz Mecca. Nearly every major jazz style of the past seventy years has been initiated in the Big Apple.

It was Charlie Parker, familiarly known to his fans and fellow musicians as "Bird," a contraction of Yardbird, his formal nickname, who was the dynamic creative personality and genius of the alto saxophone who served as the inspiration for Birdland.

When the original Birdland opened fifty-eight years ago in December, 1949, Charlie Parker was the headliner and the club was located on Broadway, a few blocks west of 52nd Street, which was a hotbed of jazz in the 1930s and 40s.

Miraculously, just as the scene on 52nd Street caved in, Birdland was born and quickly came to prominence. For the next fifteen years, the club's survival formula was built upon memorable double and triple bills, commencing at 9 p.m. and sometimes lasting 'til dawn. Click here to view memorabilia from the original Birdland.

In addition to Bird, many jazz legends were regulars at the club. Count Basie and his smokin' big band made Birdland their New York headquarters, eventually recording George Shearing's "Lullaby of Birdland" live at the club. John Coltrane's classic Quartet regularly appeared at the club in the early 1960s, recording "Live at Birdland." And the infamous Symphony Sid Torin made a name for himself broadcasting live from the club to radio listeners up and down the eastern seaboard.

In its first five years of existence, 1,400,000 paid the $1.50 admission to make their way either right to the cabaret section or left to the intense listening bullpen to hear Birdland's attractions and sample its atmosphere. Given the artists on the bill, that comes as no surprise. Birdland's booking history reads like a who's who of jazz: Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bud Powell, Stan Getz, Lester Young, Erroll Garner, and many, many others.

Considering the excitement that Birdland generated on a daily basis, it's no surprise that the club attracted its share of celebrities. Regulars to the nightly festivities included such household names as Gary Cooper, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Joe Louis, Marlene Dietrich, Ava Gardner, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Sugar Ray Robinson.

As Allan Morrison, the long-time editor of Ebony once put it, "Birdland was both a cultural vantage point and a barometer of trends where all the big names in jazz performed."

But as a new popular music, Rock & Roll emerged, Birdland's fortunes declined in the 60's and its doorswere closed on Broadway and 52nd in 1965. After many 5 am nights, the club needed to take a nap.

Birdland awoke uptown in 1986 at 2745 Broadway, on the corner 105th Street. The uptown Birdland was triangular. The stage was in the narrow center, and as the triangle widened, there was a bar with small tables. No musicians would deny the unique acoustics this setup produced. In ten years, more than 2,000 emerging artists performed at the club. On many occasions, artists who performed at the original club on 52nd street graced the stage of the second version of Birdland as well.

Now, half a century later, the Birdland banner has been reborn in midtown and called, "close to perfection for serious fans and musicians," by The New York Times. After a decade of neighborhood success on the Upper West Side, John decided to move the club back to Midtown. The new Birdland offers top-flight jazz in a world class setting, good sight lines and acoustics, elbow room, and a menu ripe with award winning Southern Cuisine.

Since the reemergence of the club, midtown Manhattan has been treated to some of the best jazz on the planet, including memorable sets by such musicians as Oscar Peterson, Pat Metheny, Diana Krall, Roy Haynes, Michel Legrand, Pat Martino, Tony Williams, Hank Jones, Michel Petrucciani, John Pizzarelli, John Scofield, Phoebe Snow, Dave Holland, and Tito Puente, as well as the big bands of Chico O'Farrill, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and Maria Schneider.

I CAN'T MAKE YOU LOVE ME

TURN DOWN THE LIGHTS, TURN DOWN THE BED
TURN DOWN THESE VOICES INSIDE MY HEAD
LAY DOWN WITH ME, TELL ME NO LIES
JUST HOLD ME CLOSE, DON'T PATRONIZE
DON'T PATRONIZE ME

CAUSE I CAN'T MAKE YOU LOVE ME IF YOU DON'T
YOU CAN'T MAKE YOUR HEART FEEL SOMETHING IT WON'T
HERE IN THE DARK, IN THESE FINAL HOURS
I WILL LAY DOWN MY HEART AND I'LL FEEL THE POWER
BUT YOU WON'T, NO YOU WON'T
CAUSE I CAN'T MAKE YOU LOVE ME IF YOU DON'T

I'LL CLOSE MY EYES, THEN I CAN'T SEE
THE LOVE YOU DON'T FEEL WHEN YOU'RE HOLDING ME
MORNING WILL COME AND I'LL DO WHAT'S RIGHT
JUST GIVE ME TILL THEN TO GIVE UP THIS FIGHT
AND I WILL GIVE UP -- I WILL GIVE UP THIS FIGHT

CAUSE I CAN'T MAKE YOU LOVE ME IF YOU DON'T
