Help John McCain Count His Houses! Let's give him a hand!

Sen. Barack Obama has long been accused of being an elitist--after all, he prefers arugula to lettuce--but when Politco.com asked Sen. John McCain how many homes he owned, he couldn't come up with the answer. The reporter was instructed to check with his staff. For several hours after that, the answer floating around was four. That wasn't quite right. The real answer is seven, although Politico.com is now reporting there are eight, including a Phoenix condo the McCains bought for their daughter, Meghan.

The Washington Post conducted its own house tour and discovered that McCain has indoor AND outdoor swimming pools, spas, state-of-the-art fitness centers and breathtaking views of the Arizona mountains, Pacific Ocean and downtown Phoenix. And, of course, he wants to make the number eight by adding the digs at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to his list.

The seven McCain properties, all of which are owned by his wife, Cindy, include:
1. Hidden Valley, Arizona: A 15-acre ranch near Sedona that is valued at more than $1 million. This is where the senator likes to relax and fire up the grill.
2. Phoenix, Arizona: A 7,000 square foot condo in a 12-story glass building in downtown that bills itself as "the Valley of the Sun's finest example of urban residential living."
3. Phoenix, Arizona: A second condo on a lower floor in the same 12-story glass building.
4. La Jolla, California: A beachfront condo.
5. Coronado, California: Another beachfront condo.
6. Coronado, California: Yet another beachfront condo in the same building as the first. Is this one for the kids?
7. Arlington, Virginia: A three-bedroom apartment with "climate controlled access to Metro." The building has indoor and outdoor pools. The senator lives here most of the year.

Politico falls for hoax involving guess what? A BLACKWATER press release

Via Wonkette:

One of old man Politico’s blogs, The Crypt, had an interesting story up earlier today called “Blackwater Plans To ‘put The Mercy Back In Mercenary,’” but now the the link to that story goes straight to Politico.com. Ruh roh.

"Ruh roh" is ruh-right.

The story referenced a Blackwater USA “release” in which the infamous company announced it would form a “Department of Corporate Integrity” to rebuild its image. Politico has since pulled down the story, probably because the release was a hoax.

I've hereby decided that anything to do with Blackwater is either a hoax or a horror story.

Responding to rising criticism of its Iraq operations, the security contractor will announce this morning that it is forming a new “Department of Corporate Integrity.”
A statement the company put out is frank about the urgency of the new department. “Blackwater has felt a need to defend its corporate name and clear up its public image,” it reads.
“Just as in warfare, a good offense is the best defense,” said Eric Prince, chairman and CEO of the Prince Group and Blackwater, USA. “So, we are going on the offense to defend the image of our great company.”
The money line from the release: Blackwater plans “to put the mercy back in mercenary.”

Directing the new Department of Public Integrity is Kitty Laver, who has 20 years’ experience in public relations and corporate responsibility. “My job is to put the mercy back in mercenary,” says Laver, who will be unveiling the department’s new code of conduct and presenting new measures the corporation is taking to hold its employees and contractors accountable for unethical behavior. “I’m certain the American public and the Iraqis will embrace the new, improved Blackwater,” says Laver.

Never....NEVER... say "embrace" and "Blackwater" in the same sentence.

Never.

Giuliani's Homeland Security Advisor - There Are Too Many Mosques!

In another blatant attempt to use fear and racist vitriole to gain political advantage, New York Representative Peter King, a prominent House Republican and homeland security advisor to Rudy Giuliani said the following in a recent interview with Politico.

There are too many mosques in this country.

The Associated Press Reported that Rudy Guiliani commented,

I know exactly what Pete meant.

We know what you meant too Rudy despite your feeble attempts to dance and spin away. Your demeaning of Muslim Americans is consistent with your racist policies when mayor of New York. When mayor you blatantly pandered to racist ideology and by most objective means of measurement, your actions in office backed this up.

Your immoral hyper-aggressive law enforcement policies were a very clear mandate to the Police Department to terrorize the African American and Latino communities. We remember Amadou Diallo, Abner Louima, Anthony Rosario and Hilton Vega and we will make sure the country remembers too.

James Savage, then-president of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association in NYC, told this to the Daily News,

If we don’t strike a balance between aggressive enforcement and common sense, it becomes a blueprint for a police state and tyranny.

Muslim Americans and other minorities can expect more of the same if Rudy Giuliani is elected president.
