Kishore Mahbubani served as Singapore’'s Ambassador to the United Nations from 1984 to 1989 - and again from 1998 to 2004. In January 2001 and May 2002, he was the President of the U.N. Security Council.

After serving in the Singapore Foreign Ministry for 33 years, Mr. Mahbubani became Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore in August 2004.

Mr. Mahbubani is the author of two books, Can Asians Think? - and the just published Beyond The Age of Innocence: Rebuilding Trust Between America and the World.

Mr. Mahbubani received a Masters degree in Philosophy in 1976 from Dalhousie University, Canada and an honorary doctorate in 1995. He also served as a fellow at the Center for International Affairs at Harvard University from 1991 to 1992 - and received the Foreign Policy Association Medal in New York in June 2004.

White Supremacists March In Jena on Martin Luther King Day

A small group of white bigots disturbed the calm in Jena, Louisiana yesterday when they marched in protest of Martin Luther King Day. Organized by the Nationalist Movement of known racist Richard Barrett, the group held a rally at the LaSalle Parish Courthouse, while 100 counter demonstrators protested nearby. Snipers and police from the Louisiana State Police and three parish sheriff's departments were on hand to keep the peace and one counter-demonstrator was arrested.

The crowd of onlookers from Jena included George Ferguson, a local resident who wore a T-shirt reading "Justice for Justin," referring to Justin Barker, the white teen beaten in the Jena school attack.

Race relations in Jena, a small town of 2,800 in Louisiana have been severely strained since six African-American teenagers were charged with attempted murder in the beating of a white student at Jena High School in 2006. Many were convinced that they were being prosecuted harshly because they were black, noting that no charges were filed against three white students accused of hanging nooses in a tree at the high school. Also contributing to the tension were other instances of violent crimes committed by whites that resulted in lesser charges being filed.

It’s an abomination that white supremacists even exist in our country today and disgraceful that they decided to showcase their own particularly evil brand of hatred and bigotry on a day celebrating a man who preached inclusion and non-violence.

Someone dared to interrupt the Nation of Dick! In Dallas, no less:

Vice President Dick Cheney's remarks that the country should not abandon Iraq was met with protest both inside and outside the Hyatt Regency in Dallas on Friday. [...]
A woman sitting in the back of the luncheon stood and shouted, "Get out of Iraq," and "Don't attack Iran." She was escorted out of the room.

Idiot in Chief is The Decider. Woman in Room is The Disrupterer, and guess what? She's more articulate than he is by a long shot.

Oh, and too bad Cheney doesn't believe in that thing called the First Amendment.

Another man in the front of the room stood and shouted at Mr. Cheney about Iraq. He was also removed as Mr. Cheney told the crowd that diplomatic strategies were being used to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, but that "all options were on the table."

Like I said...

I wonder if the crowd outside was thrown out of the narrow strip of grass:

Outside the hotel, more than 75 protesters crowded onto a narrow strip of grass to protest Mr. Cheney's speech.

How dare they? Express dissent? Lock 'em all up!

Some were graying veterans of many anti-war rallies, old enough to retool the Vietnam era “Hey, hey, LBJ! How many kids did you kill today?” into a chant that started “Bush! Cheney! CIA!” Others were younger, relative newcomers to public protest.

They held signs: “Tyranny is no protection against terror!” “No war in Iran!” “Healthcare not warfare.”

They cheered as a bus emblazoned with “Iraq veterans against the war” circled the hotel.

Veterans? You mean they weren't just a bunch of dirty stoned librul hippies? They were people who actually cared. And did something about it.

“I’ve been a peace activist all my life,” said Amelia Core Jenkins, 69. “Mostly it’s a gesture to show that some people care enough to give their morning to it.”
“Democracy is not a spectator sport,” [one activist] said. “It’s not just the people who are here. We are like the spear tip.”
Elvan Sarigollu, 32, and her husband Burak, 36, held signs. Originally from Turkey, they moved to Dallas about 10 years ago.

“Americans need to make a much stronger statement” against a possible war with Iran, she said.

I couldn't agree more, Elvan.

And the phrase "possible war with Iran" shouldn't even be in our collective consciousness. But it is. So keep protesting. Loudly. And never stop.
