Oh Blackwater, Are You And Your State Department Pals Misbehaving Again?

The State Department has released copies of its contracts for private security services with Blackwater Lodge and Training Center and Blackwater Security Consulting. It's a hefty 323-page stack, and it comes with a catch:

About 169 of the pages are blank or mostly blank.

Released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, the contracts -- worth up to $1.2 billion -- have been heavily redacted by the government. A State Department spokesman said the officials responsible for the cuts are simply trying to protect sensitive information that might put individuals at risk. He declined to say what kind of information was cut.

In a cover letter, the department notes that it "gave full consideration" to deletions recommended by Blackwater officials.

No way! You mean Blackwater made a recommendation and the State Department bent over and said "thank you sir may I have another!" That is just SO much different than how I thought that relationship worked...

Oh, one more piece of interest.

Page 35 specifies that "All Contracting employees working under this contract should: Be well proportioned in height and weight," among other qualities.

Well I guess we now know why Dick Cheney didn't get the job....

O’Reilly Praises Serial Killer Charlie Manson’s Patriotism, Then Accepts Money to Promote “Anti-American” Movie

Seems like O’Reilly can’t pick a topic to assail before he’s quickly and easily called out as a hypocrite, liar, or lunatic. His recent jihad against the film Redacted might hit the trifecta.

As some of you know, BOR has been screeching and peeing himself about Redacted (directed by Brian De Palma, produced by Mark Cuban), which tells a fictionalized version of the Al-Mahmudiyah massacre where a group of American soldiers raped a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and killed members of her family.

As expected, BOR dredged up the republican “endangering the soldiers/hurting America” clichés . See, US soldiers actually raping and murdering a young girl and killing her family is fine, but news reports and a movie’s adaptation of it endangers soldiers. Just like US soldiers and contractors (with the approval and encouragement of the Bush administration) actually torturing and unlawfully imprisoning Iraqis is fine, but movies and news reports talking about it endanger soldiers. Just like Murtha saying the US soldiers responsible for Haditha killed civilians in cold blood (which they did) apparently means that Murtha must be saying that all US soldiers kill civilians in cold blood. You’d have to be an idiot to believe this stuff, which is why BOR says it to his viewers. He thinks they’re idiots. Sadly, BOR went on:

There is no excuse for “Redacted.” The incident is based on a true story, but those who committed the crimes are in prison for life. You don’t celebrate this kind of aberration with a movie — you don’t brand the U.S. military with this stigma.

Charles Manson is an American too, but does he represent this country in any way? Of course not. And I believe even the odious Manson would not make a movie like “Redacted.”

Cuban and Redacted definitely benefited from all the attention and free press BOR provided the movie, but Cuban wanted to take it further. So he bought ad time for Redacted specifically during the Factor. And the ad aired. Twice. This is what Cuban said about it on his blog:

I had someone call FoxNews and tell them specifically, unequivocally that we wanted to run an ad for the movie Redacted. The same movie Bill O’Reilly was so upset about.

They said no problem. Do you want to run the ads in both the live show and the repeat?

Our first reaction was that this was just the sales department and at some point, someone at FoxNews would step in and stop the ads from running. The call to say they were stopping the ads never came.

So Mr. O’Reilly, the king of the O’Reilly Factor, the man who called this movie Anti American and said erroneously it could cause harm to American Troops, was willing to overlook those points and take our money to promote the movie.

I've heard this is excellent. And it must be, as Billo The Falafel has been attacking Mark Cuban who's HDNet will be showing it (will be in theatres too).

Cuban, of course, is laughing all the way to the bank, as you'd expect when a preening imbecile like O'Reilly attacks you (see Al Franken, Keith Olbermann, Stephen Colbert, George Clooney, etc.).

I hear ya Mark. Cuban is laughing at Billo because his attacks on the film Redacted, which Cuban's network HDNet will be releasing soon, have only succeeded in giving it tons of free press.

Didn't the Big Loofah learn his lesson with Al Franken's book? Apparently not.
