-------------------------------------

CHANGE IS ON THE WAY
(A tribute to Barack Obama)

Change -- Change -- Change
Change is on the way.
CHange -- Change -- Change
Change is on the way.
Baby, let me tell you,
I've been up, down,
kicked around,
head over heels.
I see your face,
you're the same way too.
You've been so low,
touch and go,
you know how it feels.

But, hey -- but, hey -- hey!
Listen to me, when I say...

That I feel...
-- Change!
It's in the air!
-- Change!
It's everywhere!
-- Change!
... and we aint gonna pass this way again.
-- Change!
So, take my hand,
-- Change!
and take a stand.
-- Change!
I know together, baby, we can win! Yes!

With a little faith.
-- Faith!
With a little hope.
-- With a little hope!
With a little joy.
Change is on the way!

With a little trust.
-- Trust!
With a little courage.
-- Courage!
In a little while...
Change is on the way!

CHange -- Change -- Change
Change is on the way.
CHange -- Change -- Change
Change is on the way.

Baby, it's a strange time.
We're on a rocky road, overload,
feeling confused.
I look around, and it blows my mind.
It's been so wrong, for so long.
I'm feeling abused.

But, hey -- but, hey -- hey!
Listen to me, when I say...

That I feel...
-- Change!
It's in the air!
-- Change!
It's everywhere!
-- Change!
... and we all have the freedom
to make the choice.
-- Change!
So, take my hand,
-- Change!
and take a stand.
-- Change!
Express yourself, baby. Raise your voice!

With a little faith.
-- Faith!
With a little hope.
-- With a little hope!
With a little joy.
Change is on the way!

With a little trust.
-- Trust!
With a little courage.
-- Courage!
In a little while...
Change is on the way!

We are strong enough,
to weather the road,
till the race has been won.
We can step into the sun.
I got to believe that!

With a little faith.
-- Faith!
With a little hope.
-- With a little hope!
With a little joy.
Change is on the way!

With a little trust.
-- Trust!
With a little courage.
-- Courage!

Political commentator Tucker Carlson discusses his admiration for Republican congressman and former Presidential hopeful Ron Paul, and denounces liberal political discourse on the internet.

FORA.tv coverage of the RNC: fora.tv

-----

Tucker Carlson is a conservative political commentator currently best known for formally being co-host of Crossfire, CNN's once-popular and lively political debate program. Crossfire aired nightly before a live studio audience from George Washington University's Jack Morton Auditorium in Washington, D.C. In 2002, Crossfire celebrated its 20th anniversary. Carlson left Crossfire in January 6, 2005 and the show was canceled on June 3, 2005.

Carlson is also a political analyst for CNN, based in the network's Washington, D.C., bureau. Before The Situation, Unfiltered and Crossfire, Carlson was co-host of CNN's Spin Room.

Carlson currently hosts The Situation with Tucker Carlson, a light hearted news-themed show on MSNBC. On The Situation a stream of recent headlines are brought before Carlson and his two panelists, each of who reside on opposite ends of the political spectrum. This leads to fast paced, thought provoking discussions although far from comprehensive.

Since 1997, he has appeared weekly on Inside Politics with Judy Woodruff, the nation's first program devoted exclusively to politics.

Formerly a staff writer at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock, Carlson is a contributor to New York Magazine and The Weekly Standard, as well as a columnist for Readers Digest. He has written for dozens of magazines and newspapers, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, GQ and Forbes.

George Bush’s popularity ratings are among the lowest of any sitting American president. US foreign policy is in shambles, the economy is teetering on the edge of collapse, and millions of Americans cannot afford healthcare. The Democratic and Republican conventions have given voters an opportunity to express their discontent: witness the protests in Denver and St. Paul.

Last night, in what may be his final major speech, Bush took a swipe at the “angry Left,” saying that if the Hanoi Hilton could not break McCain’s resolve, “you can be sure the angry Left never will.” Given just how unpopular Bush is, the angry Left refers to nearly 80 percent of the population. Which raises the question, as the sun sets on George W. Bush, where should Democrats direct their anger and unrest?

At a moment of profound national insecurity Barack Obama’s positions on healthcare, the environment, and foreign policy are not nearly as far reaching as many think they should be. But is now the time to push for a more sweeping progressive platform? Today at noon our live panel will take on the role of the Left and of progressive democrats in American politics. Chris Hedges, Elizabeth Holtzman, John MacArthur, and Judith LeBlanc join us for a live discussion.

Email your questions to laura@grittv.org.
Comment right here at www.grittv.org.
And call in at 866-466-2961.

Town Hall
Carroll, IA 12/14/07

TRANSCRIPT:
MITT ROMNEY: Now some folks when they look at all those challenges, they ring their hands, and say 'well government is gonna have to take over.' If you listen to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and John Edwards, they want to take America on a sharp leftward tack. I think they're inspired by the Europe of old, big government, big brother, big taxes. In my view that is the wrong way to go. The right way for America to proceed when we face the kinda of challenges we face is to pursue the strategy which Ronald Reagan pursued when we faced the challenges of the last century. He said the right path forward is to strengthen America. He strengthened our confidence in ourselves. He rebuilt the optimism that America had lost under Jimmy Carter. He strengthened our families and values. He also made sure that we could compete with anybody in the world. He brought our taxes down, a lot. That caused our economy to take off. And in turn allowed us to out-compete the Russians. And then of course, he strengthened our military. Facing the kind of military challenge that we faced then, he made sure that our military was second to none. And finally, the, the Soviets had to say 'enough already' and they threw in the towel. Now we face extraordinary challenges and the right course is to strengthen America again. And I would strengthen us in our homes and our schools but also our economy and military.

Journalist Richard Goldstein argues that gay rights advocates should not expect a hypothetical President Obama to be a leader on gay issues, and should instead focus their efforts on affecting change in the U.S. Congress.

-----

Efforts to overcome discrimination based on sexual orientation have been part of a more generalized agenda of civil rights. These efforts have been played out in the streets, in major institutions, and in the courts.

What do the politics of statewide elections and the presidential race of 2008 tell us about efforts to remedy the effects of discrimination on gays, lesbians and transgendered individuals?

The panelists who will deal with issues of marriage and the family, employment, health and well-being to assess electoral politics and the interests of a gay constituency include Judith Stacey, professor of Social and Cultural Analysis, Sociology Department, NYU Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality and author of In the Name of the Family: Rethinking Family Values in the Postmodern Age; Shannon Minter, legal director of The National Center for Gay Rights and lead attorney for same-sex couples in the marriage case recently decided by the California Supreme Court, and Richard Goldstein, journalist and author of Homocons: Liberal Society and the Gay Right.

Moderated by Robert-Jay Green, Executive Director, Rockway Institute, Alliant International University. Sponsored by the Wolfson Center for National Affairs in partnership with the Alliant International University's Rockway Institute for Science and LGBT Public Policy - The New School

Richard Goldstein writes about the connections between pop culture, politics and sexuality. He is the author of Homocons: Liberal Society & The Gay Right.

Andrew Kimbrell visits Google's Mountain View, CA headquarters to discuss his book "Your Right to Know: Genetic Engineering and the Secret Changes in Your Food." This event took place on July 22, 2008, as part of the Authors@Google series.

More than half of America's processed grocery products -- from corn flakes to granola bars to diet drinks -- contain genetically altered ingredients. They are unlabeled and untested, and we are eating them. "Your Right to Know" is a complete, full-color reference guide outlining how unmarked genetically modified foods go from the factory to the family dining table, and what consumers can do about the health risks they present. This accessible guide is for concerned parents -- as well as anyone concerned about genetically altered foods -- who want to know more about the potential health risks, the organic alternatives, and the methods available to counter the corporate takeover of the food we eat.

ANDREW KIMBRELL serves as the executive director of the Center for Food Safety and the International Center for Technology Assessment and has been involved in public interest legal activity for nearly 20 years. His articles have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Harpers, Utne Reader, and the Ecologist. Andrew lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife and two children.

Democratic consultant Jenny Backus identifies potentially difficult issues either John McCain or Barack Obama may have as President when dealing with Congress.

-----

The Bill Green Lecture Series memorializes Bill Green (1929-2002), who represented the East Side of Manhattan in Congress from 1978 to 1992.

Rep. Green, a Democrat, was an independent thinker who frequently crossed the aisle to collaborate on critical issues such as the environment, urban policy, and affordable housing. He served as a trustee of The New School and a board member of Milano.

This lecture series, which pays tribute to his deep commitment to bipartisanship, is generously funded by the Taconic Foundation, on whose board he also served - The New School

U.S. Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) argues that Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama's plans for a broad bipartisan coalition may not be realistic.

-----

The inaugural Nelson W. Polsby Congressional Conversation will be hosted by Norm Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute and feature Representatives Barney Frank and Tom Davis.

It is a candid conversation between prominent congressional leaders of opposing political interests on finding ways to build bridges, find solutions and govern effectively in a highly partisan environment.

The Polsby series aims to honor the late Berkeley congressional scholar Nelson Polsby by enabling substantive discussion between politically opposed leaders.

Polsby was noted for his ecumenical approach to divisive political issues and his efforts over many decades to expand our understanding of political institutions and to make them work better - The New Republic

Barnett "Barney" Frank is an American politician and a member of the United States House of Representatives. He is a Democrat and has represented Massachusetts's 4th congressional district since 1981.
Months ago Barack Obama predicted the SCOTUS ruling on handguns which was handed down last week in a 5-4 decision.

"The 2nd Amendment Right is an individual right and not just a right of militia and that's where I expect the Supreme Court to rule. I think that is a fair reading of the text of the Constitution. I respect the right of lawful gun owners to hunt, fish, protect their families."

Dr. Robert Burton visits Google's Mountain View, CA headquarters to discuss his book "On Being Certain: Believing You Are Right Even When You're Not." This event took place on June 9, 2008, as part of the Authors@Google series.

In On Being Certain, neurologist Robert Burton challenges the notions of how we think about what we know. He shows that the feeling of certainty we have when we "know" something comes from sources beyond our control and knowledge. In fact, certainty is a mental sensation, rather than evidence of fact. Because this "feeling of knowing" seems like confirmation of knowledge, we tend to think of it as a product of reason. But an increasing body of evidence suggests that feelings such as certainty stem from primitive areas of the brain, and are independent of active, conscious reflection and reasoning. The feeling of knowing happens to us; we cannot make it happen.

Robert Burton, M.D. graduated from Yale University and University of California at San Francisco medical school, where he also completed his neurology residency. At age 33, he was appointed chief of the Division of Neurology at Mt. Zion-UCSF Hospital, where he subsequently became Associate Chief of the Department of Neurosciences. His non-neurology writing career includes three critically acclaimed novels. He lives in Sausalito, California.
Salon.com technology columnist Farhad Manjoo examines the phenomenon of "selective exposure" - our predisposition to seek out ideas that re-enforce existing beliefs - in today's media, using the 2004 Presidential election's "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" as an example.

-----

Salon.com staff writer Farhad Manjoo talks about his new book, True Enough: Learning To Live in a Post-Fact Society, which contends the Internet promotes belief over fact.

Perhaps countering this view is Mike Godwin, formerly counsel for the Electronic Frontier Foundation and now general counsel for the Wikimedia Foundation, and Zo (Connie) Spencer, brilliant, witty, and fearless blogger (www.humorlessbitch.com) on all things political, personal, and involving high-tech.

As usual, everyone is invited to participate in the discussion - The Hillside Club Cybersalon

Farhad Manjoo is an author and a staff writer for Salon.com.
Manjoo graduated from Cornell University in 2000. While there, he wrote for and then served as editor-in-chief of the Cornell Daily Sun student newspaper. Before taking a staff position at Salon.com, he wrote for Wired News. Manjoo frequently writes on new media, politics and controversies in journalism.

Manjoo is the author of the book True Enough: Learning to Live in a Post-Fact Society, published in March, 2008.

Half of the Palestine's Arab population fled or were forced to leave their homes upon Israel's creation in 1948.

At the time there were about 800,000 refugees. Now their descendants number close to five million people, many of whom still live in camps scattered in the countries around Israel. What is their fate?

On Tuesday Riz hosts a debate between Dr. Arnon Soffer, an Israeli geostrategist, and Dr. Johnny Mansour, a Palestinian-Israeli historian.
