TRANSCRIPT:
WARREN: Let me ask you a question related to that. We have a bill right here in California, Proposition H, that's going on, because the court overturns this definition of marriage. Was the Supreme Court of California wrong?

MCCAIN: "I believe they were wrong, and I strongly support preserving the unique status of marriage between man and woman. And I'm a federalist. I believe that states should make those decisions. In my state, I hope we will make that decision, and other states, they have to recognize the unique status between man and woman. And that doesn't mean that people can't enter into legal agreements. That doesn't mean that they don't have the rights of all citizens. I'm not saying that. I am saying that we should preserve the unique status of marriage between one man and one woman. And if a federal court — if a federal court decided that my state of Arizona had to observe what the state of Massachusetts decided, then I would favor a constitutional amendment. Until then, I believe the states should make the decisions within their own states."

TRANSCRIPT:
JOHN MCCAIN: Yes sir?
AUDIENCE MEMBER: Senator McCain, I'm [inaudible name] from the state of-
MCCAIN: Could I just mention one other thing? You might recall this time last year at the time of the convention my party, my candidacy was in a bit of trouble. [laughs]
Go ahead.
AUDIENCE MEMBER: Senator McCain I'm [inaudible first name] May from the state of Oklahoma. Recently I think you made some statements in regards to an agenda that Ward Connerly has pushed to eliminate affirmative action. He has targeted Oklahoma, we pushed him back and there's several other states -- maybe your own -- that he's targeted. Why in America where there are disparities -- alarming disparities -- in employment between management, between income, wealth, health, would you want to eliminate programs that document that so we understand where we are and can plan for where we need to go.

MCCAIN: Well let me say that [audience applause interrupts, McCain awkwardly smiles] Let me say that I- Affirmative action is in the eye of the beholder. I think the United States of America has reached a point where we should provide equal economic opportunities for all Americans. I do not and Americans rejected a quota system and that frankly is something I don't think helps anyone and has not helped anyone. What I want to assure you that I don't believe any of these initiatives that we're talking about any way eliminates our ability to assist small businesses, people economically disadvantaged, and others, and I will continue my fight for equal opportunity for every American and I'm happy to tell you I think there's still the best equal opportunity employer in America today is the United States military. I think that Colin Powell is an example that and I think that fact that the United States Army General had a woman promoted to four star genera -- the highest rank -- and I'm proud of equal opportunity in the United States military provides to everyone and we don't do it by quotas.

Middle East Forum Director Daniel Pipes criticizes the role of Sharia Law in many radical Islamic movements, identifying this concept as one of the greatest obstacles to democratic reforms in Muslim societies.

-----

In Islam, Allah is the ultimate authority. In democracy, authority ultimately lies with the people. But does this mean that Islam is incompatible with democracy?

After all, it was Islamic scholarship that introduced ancient Greek conceptions of democracy to the feudal states of Europe.

Despite this, it has been suggested that the differences between Islam (especially when given political form) and the liberal democracies of the West are so great as to represent a 'clash of civilisations'.

But is this so? Is an approach in which society is ordered according the will of God compatible with one in which the will of the people reigns supreme? - Intelligence Squared Australia

Daniel Pipes is director of the Middle East Forum and a prize-winning columnist who writes for the New York Times Syndicate. His website, DanielPipes.org, is one of the most accessed internet sources of specialized information on the Middle East and Islam.

Pipes received his AB (1971) and PhD (1978) in History from Harvard University and spent six years studying abroad, including three years in Egypt. Mr Pipes speaks French and reads Arabic and German. He has taught at the University of Chicago, Harvard University, the US Naval War College, and Pepperdine University. Pipes also served in various capacities in the US Government, including two presidentially-appointed positions: vice chairman of the Fulbright Board of Foreign Scholarships and member of the board of the US Institute of Peace. He was director of the Foreign Policy Research Institute in 1986-93.

Human Rights Watch Media Director Minky Worden discusses whether recent international attention due to environmental disasters, economic growth, and the 2008 Olympics has affected China's positions on human rights.

-----

As human rights emerge as a central concern around the 2008 Beijing Olympics, China's Great Leap: The Beijing Games and Olympian Human Rights Challenges examines China in transition today.

When Beijing first sought to host the Olympics, China was still recovering from the upheavals of Maoist rule and adapting to a market revolution. How are China’s leaders managing the Olympic process and the internal and external pressures for reform the Games are creating?

China's Great Leap illuminates China's recent history through voices of leading China experts, and points to key areas for future reform. Join the book's editor, Minky Worden, and contributing writers Scott Greathead and Emily Parker for an evening of discussion, moderated by Jamie Metzl, Executive Vice President of the Asia Society - Asia Society

As Media Director of Human Rights Watch, Minky Worden works with the world's journalists to help them cover crises, wars, human rights abuses and political developments in more than 70 countries worldwide. Before joining Human Rights Watch in 1998, Ms. Worden lived and worked in Hong Kong as an adviser to democratic party chairman Martin Lee and worked at the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. as a speechwriter for the U.S. attorney general and in the executive office for US attorneys.

A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Ms. Worden speaks Cantonese and German and is an elected member of the Overseas Press Club's board of governors. She is the editor of China's Great Leap: The Beijing Games and Olympian Human Rights Challenges (Seven Stories, May 2008) and the co-editor of Torture (New Press, 2005).

The history of woman at the hands of man since the dawn of MAN done as a talking blues... Discusses religion, the Bible, sexism, slavery, discrimination, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, sweat shops, the American Way, Margeret Sanger, contraception, abortion, the Pope...

Talking Herstory

Well, if you think the world is a mystery,
Then you ought to learn a little history.
Find the facts—open up your mind;
If you want to see the future,
You gotta’ look behind.
The one outstanding feature
Of the preacher and the teacher
Is what Cummings called
The “shrill collective Myth”;
That is, the lies we tell ourselves...
About ourselves...
To make ourselves
Feel better about ourselves.
Haven’t you ever wondered
Why they call it “His story”?

Now they tell the one about
Adam in the garden:
He was diggin' in the dirt
And beggin’ God’s pardon
When along came Eve
And opened up his eyes;
She said, “Here, eat this!
It’ll make you healthy and wise.”
And she was right,
So Adam took a bite,
But when God did come
(FEE-FI-FO-FUM),
He said, “I’m gonna’ take your life!”
So Adam did what any
Red-blooded, self-righteous,
God-fearing man would do:
He blamed his wife!

In those early days the boys were no fools;
So, they sat themselves down
And made up some rules:
“We men’ll be the leaders...
We’ll call ourselves...priests.”
And suddenly they saw
Their fortunes increased.
“Our job’ll be to sit here
And make up the laws
And take up collections
For other people’s flaws!

Take, for instance, the female;
You can see that she’s cursed:
In all God’s creation a woman’s the worst.
She is a creature so completely unclean
(You can see what I mean in Leviticus 15:19)
Why, she bleeds again and again...
Whether she’s wounded or not!”
You better burn those sheets, Buddy. It says so,
Right there in the Bible...Look it up!

And the times moved on,
But they didn’t much change;
Came the land of the free
And a home on the range.
A man worked hard in the blazing sun,
But a woman’s work was never done
‘Cause a man’s home is his castle—
A place where he can be free from hassle.
In his home, you know, a man is king!
Of course, you can’t have everything;
So, instead of his wife being a queen,
She’s sort of a combination
Scullery maid and baby machine!

Yes, Folks, in this land of Lady Liberty,
Both women and slaves were equally free:
Free to be punished, abused, or spurned,
While forbidden education
Or the chance to earn...a livin’,
And anything a woman was given,
Went directly into the pocket of the man.
It was a pretty good plan...
If you were a man!

She couldn’t sign a contract
Nor testify in court;
Couldn’t vote or speak in public
Or things of that sort.
You see they had this sorta’ pedestal
Men maintained for their gals—
Their conjugal partners—
Their bosomed pals.
And those men respected her station in life—
Kept her right where they knew
A man should keep his wife:
Right directly under that pedestal!
Then, out of nowhere,
A movement began,
And women were demanding
The rights of man.
Liz Cady Stanton made a declaration:
(Talking Herstory Continued)

Claimed a woman’s not a slave
Nor a decoration.
“These women,” cried the men,
“Want a revolution!”
“Just our rights,” she replied,
“Under the Constitution.
Let us learn...
And let us earn...
Then, let us further note:
We’ll accept nothing less
Than the right to vote!”
They were stoned and beaten;
They were threatened and jailed,
But they held their ground,
And somehow prevailed.
In 1920 they could finally vote—
...Only took about a hundred and thirty years—
But the wheels of justice turn painfully slow
When men throw monkey wrenches in the gears.

But men saw their chance
And invented the sweatshop—
Worked women and their kids
Till they both would drop.
They’d pay them each
Only penny’s a day;
It was a thing they called “The American Way!”
You know, the cycle of profit;
Sorry, Ma'am, no way to get off it!
Until Margaret Sanger, said,
“Our bodies are ours!
You men can come down
From your ivory towers!
More women die by giving birth
Than any other single reason
On the face of the earth.
Endless childbearing takes a murderous toll,
So, women must have their birth control!”

Finally, in 1965,
When many of us were already alive,
The court said in “Griswold”
That a man and wife
Were entitled to a contraceptive private life.
Of course, logic led quickly to Roe v. Wade,
But the Pope and other preachers
Were alarmed and dismayed,
(Not to mention afraid)
’Cause a powerless woman
Meant he had it made,
But if she rose up,
Then his power would fade.

After all of these years
Of raising her voice,
A woman finally found
That she had the choice
To decide for herself
When or if to give birth,
And millions of women
Have known what that’s worth.
But those men who lost
Both a maid and a slave
Have their own idea
Of how she should behave:
“Get her out of the man’s world
And back in the home;
Remove all her pills,
IUD’s, and her foam,
And outlaw abortion,
Take her choices away!
Give her rights to the fetus.
Praise the Lord! Let us pray...

“Let us pray that these women
Finally come to their senses
And not try to climb
Over any more fences.
They are there for a reason!
Take our word...we should know—
We built them for you,
So just go with the flow.
It’s a fact every God-Loving
man must face:
We were made in God’s image—
That’s why we lead the race.
Although women have tried
To pick up the pace,
Despite all that we’ve done
To make ‘em give up the chase...
How can we maintain our
God-given superiority
If these women keep knocking down
The barriers we build
To keep 'em in their place?”

She has inspired generations of American women to believe that they can reach the highest office in this nation and I respect her campaign. [applause] And I respect her. Now she and I have stark differences on issues. And those are just well-known and I have debated many of those issues on the floor of the Senate with her and other places but I admire the campaign that she has run and I think she deserves a great deal of credit and I think a few of us who have been around in politics for a while learned a lesson way back in 1992, that you'd better never count a Clinton out of any race, otherwise it may be uh—but I respect the campaign that she has, that she has run. Thank you.
On the issue of marriage, I just believe, frankly, in the sanctity of the unique status of marriage between man and woman. [applause] That's what I believe. That's what I support. [standing ovation] And that's what I will fight for. So-Thank you."

Supreme Court Strikes Down DC Handgun Ban

In a historic ruling Thursday the Supreme Court voted that the Second Amendment enshrines the constitutional right of an individual to own and keep a loaded handgun at home for purposes of self-defense. The 5-4 decision to overturn the 32-year old ban on handguns in the nation's capital is the court's most significant ruling on the Second Amendment since 1939. We speak with Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D--DC).

Thanks for viewing and post comments at the bottom.

In regards to the Supreme Court of The United States:

Too damn partisan for me. Our high court has nine justices

Chief Justice John Roberts (Conservative) - Appointed by George W. Bush in 2005
Associate Samuel Alito (Conservative) -Appointed by George W. Bush in 2006
Associate John Paul Stevens (Liberal) - Appointed by Gerald Ford in 1975
Associate Steven Breyer (Liberal) - Appointed by Bill Clinton in 1994
Associate Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Liberal) - Appointed by Bill Clinton in 1993
Associate Clarence Thomas (Conservative) - Appointed by George H.W. Bush in 1991
Associate David Souter (Liberal) - Appointed by George H.W. Bush in 1990
Associate Antonin Scalia (Conservative) - Appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1986
Associate Anthony Kennedy (Moderate) - Appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1988

Major rulings were handed down as of recently so prepare for Part II in the next video.

GUN RIGHTS - Struck down District of Columbia gun ban! I support gun rights! Our guns, our life and our liberty! No one should regulate our rights to own guns. Protection is our freedom and we should have the right to bear arms. Second Amendment is our freedom! District of Columbia v. Heller

DEATH PENALTY - Struck down selective death penalty laws! I do support capital punishment (only in regards to treason, espionage and murder). The cases were Indiana v. Edwards and Kennedy v. Louisiana. The Eight Amendment is a protection from cruel and unusual punishment. The ruling was a split thought!

TORTURE - Struck down White House request to hold military trials for accused terrorist. There are no rights for any terrorist. But in regards to how the system works, any American who is at GITMO should be held in the United States Federal Courts Boumediene v. Bush

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, PRESS AND SPEECH - Upheld the law to a federal statute prohibiting the "pandering" of child pornography (offering or requesting to transfer, sell, deliver, or trade the items) did not violate the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, even if a person charged under the code did not in fact possess child pornography which to trade. The cases include United States v. Williams and Davis v. Federal Election Commission. Don't push child porn in the direction of me!

Wonder why our country is divided. This is your SCOTUS.

Complete video at: fora.tv

Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist argues that the central unifying idea of the conservative movement is the belief that government should stay out of citizen's lives as much as possible.

-----

On May 15th, Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform discussed his new book, Leave Us Alone: Getting the Government's Hands Off Our Money, Our Guns, Our Lives, and entertained questions from an audience at the New America Foundation.

Norquist began by analyzing the political landscape of American politics, dividing it into two inimically opposed coalitions: the "Takings Coalition," comprised of groups with a shared interest in feeding upon the earnings and wealth of others, and the "Leave Us Alone Coalition," composed of those with a common interest in keeping the government out of their lives.

While the components of each coalition contain diverse viewpoints on many issues, all are motivated to cooperate and vote by shared interest in one area: the degree to which a government should interact with the social and financial autonomy of its citizens.

The contrast between these two coalitions represents the ideological divide that will shape American domestic policy for the next several generations, according to Norquist. Their balance of power will decide the direction that American policy moves toward for the next generation.

Norquist went on to identify the trends that would alter this balance in the future, including differing fertility rates, the decline of hunting, and the expansion of stock ownership. He also discussed important legislative priorities for the "Leave Us Alone Coalition," such as portable health savings plans and individually mandated savings accounts - New America Foundation

Mr. Norquist is president of Americans for Tax Reform (ATR), a coalition of taxpayer groups, individuals and businesses opposed to higher taxes at both the federal, state, and local levels.

ATR organizes the TAXPAYER PROTECTION PLEDGE, which asks all candidates for federal and state office to commit themselves in writing to oppose all tax increases. To date, President George W. Bush, 193 House members, and 41 Senators have taken the pledge. On the state level, 7 governors and 1,221 state legislators have taken the pledge.

Mr. Norquist is author of the book Leave Us Alone -- Getting the Government's Hands Off Our Money, Our Guns, Our Lives. The book is an optimistic look at how the conservative movement can and will grow during the next 25 years.
