<p><p>John McCain's campaign has explicitly said that questions about Obama's patriotism are off limits, but McCain's highest-profile surrogates have embarked on a new round of efforts to raise questions about Obama's American-ness, for lack of a better word -- with no objection yet from the McCain camp.</p> <p>The occasion for the latest insinuations about Obama's American-ness is the Illinois Senator's recent claim that Americans should learn a second language. "You should be thinking about how can your child become bilingual," Obama told a crowd the other day, adding that it was "embarrassing" that Europeans can speak English while Americans can't communicate in other languages abroad.</p></p>

<p>After former Senator Fred Thompson showed disappointing results in South Carolina, and New Hampshire he officially dropped out.</p>
<p>Now top-tier candidate former North Carolina Senator John Edwards who "vowed" to continue is officially dropping out. Citing the hard lost in South Carolina and the loss of Nevada. </p>
<p>It's becoming clear that now a two person race (I am not sure if Michael Gravel is still in). Bill O'Reilly will be so glad! But don't fear John Edwards supporters, by whom he endorses, you can expect the candidate to help carry the South. Still we'll see. </p>
<p>Again, I still can't help but pick on Rudy Giuliani. The looks on FOX News' Sean Hannity's face showed practically disappointment. Cause people didn't want the former mayor especially after all the controversy brought forth, he didn't win. It showed in Florida. </p>
<p>Still I am uncertain on if this will be a two person race or four person race. We'll see. John McCain, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, Alan Keyes and Mike Huckabee are still in this. But if late word comes, any of the candidates drop out, you get a post too. </p>

John McCain’s presidential campaign.</strong> </p></blockquote><p>Next up: The Willard Romney Endorser:</p><blockquote><p>Republican <strong>Senator Larry Craig was a big-time backer of former Gov. Mitt Romney</strong>, before being accused <strong>of soliciting sex in a Minnesota men’s bathroom.</strong></p></blockquote><p>Oh, and how can we forget the Vitter For Giuliani campaign?</p><blockquote><p>And Senator <strong>David Vitter was a big part of Team Giuliani, before his name turned up in the blackbook of "D.C. Either he doesn't believe waterboarding is torture, or he believes it is and equates his career with torture. From our p.o.v., the latter is a distinct possibility. </p><p>Need a break, Mr. Candidate? Fine with us. Go back to your <a href="http://cliffschecter.bravenewfilms.org/blog/23372-mike-the-huckastructionist">Huckastructionist</a> Rev-ing. On second thought, don't. That's torture for the rest of us, too, not to mention it threatens what's left of our democracy. </p><blockquote><p>This morning, CNN <a href="http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0802/16/hcsg.01.html">ran a story</a> “tracking the strain furious campaigning puts on the human body” for the presidential candidates. During the segment, former Arkansas governor <strong>Mike Huckabee joked that his campaign schedule is not providing enough time to sleep and that, for him, is “like being waterboarded”:</strong> </p></blockquote> <blockquote><p>HUCKABEE: I’m finding just out how long I can go sleep deprived. <strong>You know, <strong>running for office is sort of like being waterboarded</strong>, I think</strong>.</p></blockquote><p>That just cracks me up! Doesn't it crack you up? Omg, he should do stand-up! What wit! Maybe he can write <a href="http://cliffschecter.bravenewfilms.org/blog/28826-time-for-another-stand-up-comedy-blog">these</a> posts for me, too! Or audition for the Daily Show!</p><blockquote><p>A recent CNN <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/02/15/campaign.health/index.html">article</a> on the same subject also noted Huckabee’s comments and added: “<strong>He was only half-kidding.”</strong> But waterboarding <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/11/08/AR2007110802150.html">is</a> <a href="http://thinkprogress.org/2008/02/10/former-navy-airman-describes-water-torture/">torture</a>, illegal under both <a href="http://www.wnbc.com/news/15299125/detail.html?rss=ny&amp;psp=nationalnews">U.S.</a> and <a href="http://uk.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUKN0852061620080208?rpc=401">international</a> law, and certainly nothing to joke about. </p><p>Unfortunately, Huckabee is not the first Republican presidential candidate to compare lack of sleep and torture in jest. Last year, former New York City mayor (and <a href="http://thinkprogress.org/2007/12/13/journal-waterboarding/">current waterboarding supporter</a>) <strong>Rudy Giuliani called liberals “silly” for describing “sleep deprivation” as torture, joking that “on that theory, <a href="http://thinkprogress.org/2007/10/25/rudy-torture-sleep-deprivation/">I’m getting tortured running for president of the United States.</a></strong>”</p></blockquote> <p>Again, so were we. At least we got some relief when he dropped out. </p><p>I wonder how funny it would be to Rev Gomer if he were sent on a one-way, all-expenses-paid trip to Gitmo. At least there he'd have a captive audience. </p></p>
