My plans are the same as General Petraeus' plans at this point and that is to win. How do we win? The troop surge is working. A lot of people didn't think it was gonna work. Umm, but it is working. And the reason it is working is because the people in Iraq have recognized our commitment and our resolve. The Sunnis have recognized how bad their life would be if Al Qaeda took over their community. And the Sunnis are working with us to get rid of Al Qaeda. For me the key to success in Iraq is making sure we do not leave behind a safe-haven for Al Qaeda or Hezbollah, or other terror groups. And we are successful at this stage in helping move those kinds of groups out of positions of power in Iraq. And I think what you're gonna see, is as General Petraeus has laid out, we are going to start bringing down our troops support by about a brigade a month until July, when we'll take a pause. We'll have gone from about 20 to 15 brigades. We'll take a pause and see how well the Iraqis are doing, standing up their capacity to patrol the streets and secure the public safety. And then I think you're gonna see us start bringing troops down until we're down to a much more modest level. <br /> I think you'll also see our troops playing more of a support role. Which means that we'll being being, doing aerial support, intelligence support, logistical support, and the Iraqi military will be playing a more primary front role. Ultimately, I believe our troops should all come out Iraq. I think we'll have troops in Kuwait, or Cutter, or other places where we have permanent bases in the region. But I think the Iraqis need to know that we are not planning on staying in their country forever. I believe you're going to see us successful there. But you will not hear much about it on CNN or Faux News. Because they are too busy reporting ad nauseam about the extramarital shenanigans of CFR darling John Edwards. <br />In order to find out what's really going on in Georgia, you have to read the international press on the internet. Bush, McCain, and Obama may cast blame on Russia, but reading the international press you get a different perspective. <br />"Russian officials believe that it was the USA that orchestrated the current conflict. The chairman of the State Duma Committee for Security, Vladimir Vasilyev, believes that the current conflict is South Ossetia is very reminiscent to the wars in Iraq and Kosovo," reports Pravda, the Russian newspaper. <br />Imagine Canada decided to enter a military and diplomatic alliance with Russia and Canada began arming itself to the teeth with Russian weapons and training with Russian military advisers. Can you guess what the reaction of Bush and the neocons would be? <br />It doesn't take much imagination. <br />It appears the CIA has worked behind the scenes for quite a while in Georgia. Back in 1993, for instance, CIA agent Fred Woodruff was assassinated by unknown assailants outside of Tbilisi. "Spokesmen for the State Department and the C.I.A. declined to confirm that Mr. Woodruff was working for the intelligence agency <br />In the wake of Georgia's much vaunted — by the U.S. corporate media — "revolution," the installed government of autocrat Mikheil Saakashvilli wasted little time imposing "democracy" neocon-style, resulting in violent suppression of opposition political rallies. "Georgia was rocked by opposition rallies for six days last November as protesters occupied central Tbilisi demanding Saakashvili's resignation over allegations of corruption and increasing authoritarianism," reported RIA Novosti. "The Georgian leader responded by sending in riot police to crack down on protesters on November 7. Over 500 people were injured according to Human Rights Watch as police used rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannons to break up the demonstrations." In addition, Saakashvilli's goons used "non-lethal" weapons of the sort developed by the Pentagon (see video). <br />Last month, Aljazeera reported that "a total of around 1,650 soldiers form the US, Georgia and several other East European countries, have begun exercises on the formerly Russian-controlled Vaziani base, the Georgian defense ministry said." <br />NowPublic reported on July 17: <br />US officials insist the long-planned wargames have nothing to do with the recent dispute between Russia and Georgia over the breakaway Georgian regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. But they give Washington a chance to support pro-west Tbilisi at a critical time. <br />If you believe this, I have a bridge for sale. <br />In fact, these "long-planned wargames" were so important the State Department packed up and shipped off Condi Rice to Georgia. Her arrival was nicely timed to coincide with "a deadly firefight between Georgian troops and separatists in a Russian-backed breakaway region.... Ahead of Rice's arrival, a senior State Department official who did not want to be identified told reporters that unchecked conflict in the region could lead to catastrophe. The official also said Moscow should realize its Soviet empire is gone." <br />Israel gets in on the act <br />Let's not forget America's junior partner in chaos and mass murder, Israel. "In addition to the spy drones, Israel has also been supplying Georgia with infantry weapons and electronics for artillery systems, and has helped upgrade Soviet-designed Su-25 ground attack jets assembled in Georgia, according to Koba Liklikadze, an independent military expert based in Tbilisi. Former Israeli generals also serve as advisers to the Georgian military," reports the International Herald Tribune. <br />No wonder the horrific photos emerging from South Ossetia have that Lebanon invasion look about them. Israel has over fifty years of experience in invading small countries and has consistently specialized in murdering and tormenting civilians. <br />It looks like Russia will be obliged to deal with Georgia's treachery on its own. "For all I know, our Navy was shooting at whales out there," quipped LBJ about the imaginary act of North Vietnamese boats supposedly attacking U.S. ships, leading to the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and undeclared war in Southeast Asia, ultimately resulting in the death of nearly 60,000 Americans and around 3 million Southeast Asians. <br />In an exclusive Think Progress story, we learn the meeting took place in Cheney's office and the subject on the table was "how to create a casus belli between Tehran and Washington," part of an ongoing effort to provide an excuse to attack Iran. "There was a dozen ideas proffered about how to trigger a war," Hersh explains. "The one that interested me the most was why don't we build — we in our shipyard — build four or five boats that look like Iranian PT boats. Put Navy seals on them with a lot of arms. And next time one of our boats goes to the Straits of Hormuz, start a shoot-up." <br />Hersh would have us believe this scenario did not play out because "you can't have Americans killing Americans," an absurd explanation considering the fact the attacks of September 11 were just that — "Americans killing Americans," a calculated and cold-blooded act of mass murder carried out by elements in the U.S. government as a "new Pearl Harbor," a cynical pretext to launch the "war on terror," now grinding into its seventh year. <br />Ominously, these "ideas" hark back to Operation Northwoods, the JSC plan to stage a false flag terror event — or a number of events — designed to provide a pretext to invade Cuba and take out Fidel Castro. Such "ideas" included "friendly Cubans" attacking the U.S. base at Guantanamo, shooting down a drone disguised as a chartered civil airliner and blaming it on Cuba, inciting riots and staging terror attacks in Miami, and other terrorist acts. Fortunately, then Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara, put a kibosh to this insane plan.More recently, in January, 2003, in the lead-up to the Iraq invasion George Bush and Tony Blair discussed painting planes in United Nations colors "in order to provoke an attack which could then be used to justify material breach" and thus set in motion an invasion, according to Philippe Sands, a leading British human rights lawyer (see Revealed: Bush and Blair discussed using American Spyplane in UN colors to lure Saddam into war, Channel Four News). <br />In fact, the neocons have not rested in their effort to foment war and force the support of the American people by way of deception. On May 16, 2008, Paul Joseph Watson, writing for Prison Planet, noted confidential recordings released under the Freedom of Information Act revealing the efforts of former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and top military analysts to cook up another terrorist attack on America in order to gain support for their ambitious plans to decimate Muslim culture. "The most extraordinary exchange takes place when Lt. Gen. Michael DeLong bemoans shrinking political support for Neo-Con war plans on Capitol Hill and suggests that sympathy for the Bush administration's agenda will only be achieved after a new terror attack," writes Watson. "Rumsfeld agrees that the psychological impact of 9/11 is wearing off and the 'behavior pattern' of citizens in both the U.S. and Europe suggests that they are unconcerned about the threat of terror." Rumsfeld characterizes Bush as "a victim of success" because America has not suffered "an attack in five years" and for Rumsfeld and the neocons this state of affairs is indeed lamentable. <br />Obviously, the neocons will stop at nothing — including the murder of more Americans in a false flag terror attack — to realize their agenda. <br />Finally, Sy Hersh casts suspicion on himself during the interview when he admits he did not bother to write an article on the neocon casus belli brainstorming session because it did not go forward. "So I can understand the argument for not writing something that was rejected — uh maybe. My attitude always towards editors is they're mice training to be rats.... But the point is jejune, if you know what that means." It was "jejune" because Hersh believes the "American public, if you get the right incident, the American public will support bang-bang-kiss-kiss.
